Hi Dave, and welcome, I see you are claiming for returned DD's, have you incurred any charges for unauthorised overdrafts or like me don't you have that facility. Also you might like the bank, but don't you think that £650+ for the privilege of the banks making money out of your money is a bit pricey?

It's so frustrating having to wait the 14 days, I know they're going to have to pay me the money, I just wish they'd get it over with.

I have totalled up the charges on my old Halifax account and they come to £1823, now then I've heard a lot about contractual interest.
What is it?
How much is it?
How can I claim it?
I'm thinking of all the things I could have done with that money, and i am P****d off with the Halifax for taking that money unlawfully.

I wish they'd print those leaflets they send you with there "bog-off" letters on softer paper, I might be able to find a use for them then.

Got a reply through today (28th Sept), pretty quick.
I'm disappointed........
Nationwide uses the Financial Services Authority.....
Member Services will look into your case and provide a final response........
I take it this is the usual response?
-
I think you'll have to wait, you can only claim for charges that have actually been taken.
-
Wow I never get a letter, they just add a bit onto my monthly statement telling me they are going to take the money. You should ask them to explain why they charge you £30 for sending you a letter telling you they are charging you the £30 for sending the letter. Besides for £30 what is the paper made of gold.
Yes the ID did give it away, my wife is also diabetic.
-
Hi Novorapid, I too have had the rejection letter which claims there charges are open and transparent, if this is true why wont Nationwide give you a breakdown of how they incurred those costs.
P.S. Novorapid, are you perchance diabetic.

Hi Gary29 - going from your details I'm about 2 days in front of you - I sent my prelim letters out on 6th Sept but as yet have heard nothing from NW (not bovvered!) - I've prepared my LBAs on both accounts and I'm just waiting to reprint out the charges spreadsheets for Thurs post - sorting my parachute account out on Saturday - must admit I'm feeling a tad nervous!
I know exactly what you mean, I keep thinking that we'll be the exception. Anyhow I posted them the Letter before action today, let's see what there response will be this time.
I think another charge is going to be levied against our account, can I add that to my claim, and how do I go about it?

I sent an SAR to the Halifax on the 8th Sept, four days later I phoned the Halifax to check if they received it, they confirmed they had but said I would have to pay a £5 fee (no problem, it was less than I expected), however, before I had a chance to pay them the money all my old statements turned up in the post, has anyone else had this happen to them.
P.S. looks like they owe my approx. £2000, not including interest.
-
Well, there reply turned up today, just what I expected really, "Thanks for writing to us", "tough titty, you can't have your money back", "if you don't like it take your business elsewhere", "if you still don't like it give me a call and I'll tell you why it's fair we're screwing you.
I've got four more days until the fourteen are up, then I'll send the next letter.

Can Anybody Help Please I Have Got A Flexaccount With Nationwide I Have Sent All The Required Lettewrs Including Lba But They Say They Will Not Reimburse Any Charges As They Are In The Right To Charge Them They Have Flatly Refused Do I Just Go Ahead With Court Action Or Are They Right In Refusing
I'm not an expert but I believe they have to show that the charges they have levied against your account are to reimburse themselves for costs that they've incurred in refusing your direct debit or for your unauthorised overdraft, but how much does it really cost for there computer to do that and print off an extra page on your statement telling you about it, certainly not the £30 a time that they are charging.
Have a good read of the many post on this site, the banks are paying the money back because they know legally they haven't got a leg to stand on, but they will try to bluff there way out, they don't want to give up there ill-gotten gains

Hi, I'm currently waiting for our statements from the Halifax, we closed our account about a year ago when we got into financial difficulties (mainly due to excessive charges), we are now on a debt management plan with Payplan, we also had a Credit card with Halifax that we are paying back as part of the plan. When Halifax returns our charges can they use them to repay the debt on the card, or will they have to pay the money to us?
-
Right, the letter went in the post today.
Now we wait.
-
Thanks for that, sorry if It seemed like a dumb question but I don't want to give them any excuse to drag there heels.
-
Another question guys'n girls, how do I fill out a schedule of charges.
Ijust want to make sure I don't make a mistake and put my claim back.
-
I didn't mean to use that avatar, I'll have to find politer alternative. This site is great, when I first heard that bank charges weren't legal, I thought there was some mistake, surely the papers would be full of articles if it was true. I've spent the last couple of days reading as many posts as I could before I registered, I'll be writing my initial letter to the Nationwide after I've made this post, and I'll be poping into the Halifax tomorrow to pay £5 to get my statements. I'm really fired up about this, and I will be getting my money back.

We only have a Basic Account with the Nationwide, in the last 18 months we have amassed £360 in charges for returned direct debits. It was only recently that we found out that these charges aren't legal, if we'd discovered this earlier we probably wouldn't be saddled with a basic account. We've also requested a list of charges on a Halifax account that we had to close last year, we estimate that we'd paid at least £3000 in charges over the 5 years we had the account. Plus there are a couple of credit cards we're also going to claim for.
I am pretty sure that if these charges hadn't been levelled against us we wouldn't be in the financial difficulties that we are in now.
We'll keep you all posted on how we get on, believe me that money will really be usefull.

Hi Fuzzgun, from what I've been reading you only add the 8% if your claim goes to court. Some people are claiming contractual interest however, it's explained further in this link:
