  1. Interested in how you get on here....My partner is in EXACTLY the same position with A&L/ Santander...
  2. Thanks. So, just to be clear, do I have to actually make the complaint before the 29th or is the fact i'm enquiring enough? The reason I ask is that some websites seem to have a "make a complaint" option and others just have a "find out if you had PPI" option. ps, I seem to remember you from waayyyyyy back??
  3. Hi Everyone. With the deadline for claiming PPI coming up I thought I better make one last attempt. Couple of quick questions though.. 1. I tried claiming with RBS about 5 years ago and they rejected my claim. Is there any point trying again? 2. I was going to use a company as I'm getting bombarded with "last chance" emails, but I probably don't want to do that as I've always done my own thing. That said, if I make my "Find out if you had PPI" enquiry online, does that mean I'm in before the deadline, or do I actually have to make a complaint before the 29th Aug? Many thanks for any advice/ help
  4. I've been sent the data, having sent a SAR to BoS. This credit card ran from 1993 to 2003. There's about £800 worth of PPI payments on there, but when I put the transactions into the calculator at 24.9% contractual rate, the claim figure comes out at over £15000..... That seems excessive and I'm just wondering if I've put the wrong figure in or if anyone else has had success with a claim this size. Here's the big question.... Is 24.9% the right figure? I'm told it was but have no proof, and there's no interest figures on the monthly statements. Does anyone know if this is the correct interest rate and if I should be claiming this contractual rate of compound interest? Any pointers would be great. Many thanks in advance
  5. Now going to approach Bank of Scotland re their classic visa ppi. Does anyone know the contractual rate of interest for this?.... Nothing on the statements. I know Barclays was 24.9% Many thanks
  6. Thanks IMS21, your and the other help is most appreciated. Yes, I was here in the early(ish) days and helped quite a few people successfully claim back charges. I'm now really grateful for the advice I'm being given and this kind of information cooperative is a godsend. I've amended the draft letter and FOS questionnaire to complain on the grounds of his job being government (NHS) and the fact he would have had full pay for 6 months and then half pay, as well as the fact that the costs/ benefits of a policy were never explained. It was just kind of added on. I've included 8% compound interest for the catalogue and 24.9% contractual interest for the credit card as advised. Hopefully this will work out. I'll keep everyone posted (apparently, they might have a few more PPI claims in the offing) The more I hear about this, the more annoyed I get on their behalf. It really was money down the drain.
  7. Thanks IMS21, that's a constructive and helpful answer. Basically my neighbour paid their account off most months, occasionally only a portion thereof depending on what the Barclaycard was used for. They never got into trouble and made regular payments. The account is still open, but hasn't been used in about a year. They wouldn't have taken out the policy as they were employed (and still are) by the NHS and would have got 6 months full pay in the event of sickness, no chance of redundancy and they had (back then anyway) some savings they could call on if necessary. Admittedly a bit naïve, but they simply thought this PPI was all just part of the deal so to speak. So, there aren't any "charges" so to speak. They just want to claim back the PPI payments + interest for their Barclaycard as they wouldn't have taken it out if it had been explained properly. Does that all make sense? ps, I'm just trying to help. Hortz comments aren't useful and he/ she seems intent on just putting people off making claims (there are numerous other threads where he/ she tries to put people off). I wonder if they have a hidden motive
  8. I know about charges. I claimed mine back before the door was closed and it is for this reason that my neighbour ask me to help with their PPI claim. The grounds for the claim are simply that they did not need, would never have needed, never made a claim and basically didn't question anything and can't even remember this being an option. They are not well off and its only because of the publicity surrounding this that they have thought "that's me to". So IMHO, they have valid grounds to make a claim. My only concern was that as they had asked me to help deal with this, I want to try and make sure I get it right. As for the interest rate, some of these PPI payments go back 10 years, so the difference between compound interest of 8% and 24.9% is very large. Have Barclaycard already been paying out at 24.9% compound?
  9. Thanks for that, it's only PPI, not penalty charges, so I've just stuck with the 8% at the moment. I would be happy to get that (if the interest rate was higher I'm sure they'll come back and tell me I've underestimated the interest lol) I've now put everything together and get it off in the post today..... will be interesting to see whether they simply roll over or if they put up a fight and deny/ deflect. Will keep everyone posted, and thanks again for the help.
  10. OK, I've got the FOS form filled in as far as possible. Is there a covering letter I should include with the form (and spreadsheet) when submitting the claim? Also, the interest rates listed on the statements vary almost on a monthly basis. They range between 1 - 3%. This seems very low to me as I remember my own credit cards used to be around 18%APR. Don't suppose anyone knows what rate I should be using for the interest calculator? Thanks for any help, just want to get this right as my neighbour hasn't had the best of luck recently and this would give him a real lift.
  11. I've been asked to sort out a claim for the refund of PPI charges on 2 Barclays accounts (1 x Barclaycard and 1 x catalogue). I sent in the SAR and yesterday received all the account history etc. I've gone through it all and identified all the PPI payments and used the 8% compound interest calculator to come up with a figure which I want to chase Barclays for. My question is this. 1. Is there a template for saying "here's how much you owe me, please send a lovely cheque" and 2. What's Barclays normal tactics (if any) for delaying/ deferring or trying to put you off. Any help would be most appreciated as I'm just wondering what my best next step should be and what to expects. Many thanks
  12. OK, update........SAR sent to Creation finance in Belfast. Questionaires completed for Welcome finance (being done through Aviva), and NRAM (possible mortgage and secured loan)RBS - old mortgage (contact made by phone) and RBS Credit card (contact made by phone). Cant think of anyone else I've borrowed off, so I'm just trying my luck with anyone that I have.Interestingly.........This morning, i received a letter from RBS telling me that "they have recently identified that we have incorrectly applied unarranged overdraft fees and debit interest to your account"...... The upshot is that they are paying me back over a grand, and not any mention of PPI. Coincidence????? I hadn't even asked about overpayment of fees etc.hmm......
  13. Cheers ims, was kind of thinking that myself..... I reckon I'll just wait and see how this plays out. If I'm lucky I might not need to go down the SAR route, but, if they accept the claim, it will be really interesting to see how much they offer. At the moment, it's a bit like going fishing! All good fun.As with the old bank charges, I'll use this thread as a kind of diary which will hopefully help others as well.
  14. Ok, so I got the questionaire through from Aviva, along with one for the fos. At first I thought.. 11 pages???, but it was fairly quick and easy to complete. I still have no idea how much PPI I paid on ththis loan as it's old, but I am right that I was mis-sold this as I can remember the bloke telling me that I probably wouldn't get the loan without it.I cant even remember how much this loan was for, but I'm guessing around 4 grand, so it will be interesting to see what the response is. After 10 years or so, does anyone think it would be worthwhile sending a SAR to Welcome to try and get a full breakdown? I don't know if they'd still have that detail, especially as they pretty much went bust from what I can find.....
  15. Well, just phoned Welcome and they were (fairly) helpful. They gave me my account numbers, dates etc and a contact number for Aviva (which I found a bit strange). Anyway, off to phone them now. These loans were from 2002. Aviva very helpful and will post out questionairre this week. This really is quite simple (so far..........)
  16. First time I've been on this site for a while (was a big user back in 2006 when the bank charges were being reclaimed). Decided to go after PPI now and have made a few calls to banks/ credit card etc, so we'll see where that goes. This thread is mainly to do with Creation Consumer Finance (or the B'tards from Belfast as I call them). I've had no end of grief from them and also ended up having to pay about £3000 for a £1000 suite I bought from Land of Leather. It was purely by chance that I was calling them a couple of days ago and I just thought I'd ask "Did I have PPI on this?". They confirmed that I did, so its time to get the boxing gloves on. SAR being sent away today...... Also, I had a loan from Welcome finance about 10 years ago, b ut cant find any info/ paperwork for it, so that could be another one.
  17. Thanks for the info, I will use the letter below (will include the doorstep bit, even although they havent threatned that yet One question.....why do you not sign letters to DCA's (I've seen that in quite a few threads). Also.......latest development......Despite Triton saying RBS would not even speak to me about this, I've just had a C/C statement through from RBS saying my minimum payment is £150 this month Does the right arm know what the left one is doing? Cheers
  18. Hi, hoping I can get some help here and record it for future people's benefit. I had a credit card with RBS which got a bit out of hand....ie I owed about 3 grand and missed some payments. I made a more recent agreement, but due to genuine confusion (I thought they were setting up a debit) and me being absent minded/ lazy, I have missed the last 2 months payments. This is where Triton comes in. Firstly I get a dodgy telephone call where they didnt even know my name (I did ask them to confirm who I was dealing with), then last week I got a letter. Came home from work today to a phone cal from an obnoxious woman who made all sorts of threats and sneering remarks. As with other threads, she asked for the full amount and when I told her it wasn't possible, she said the best offer the could accept was 6 months @£500 per month (sound familiar). When I said that I couldnt afford that and offered an initial 50-£100 per month, she told me that they would be referring this for court action. This caught me off guard and really worried me. I asked to be allowed the chance to speak with RBS but she said they wouldn't talk to me. Help!!! what do I do. Request a copy of the CCA? Is there any point speaking with the bank? These people do ot sound as if they are going to be flexible at all. Oh, to confuse matters, I claimed charges back off them last year and got half back. It was purely down to lazyness that I didn't pursue the other half. Do I have any grounds to claim that back now and use this as grounds for a dispute? Thanks for any help.
  19. can anyone help me with this please? what do I do next?
  20. Ive given quite a bit of advice over the past year on this site, and I'm praying I might get some back. Here's my problem. I bought a suite from Land of leather 2 years ago and last year I ran over the "interest free" period. Fair play, my fault, so I had to pay the crazy interest rate. Anyway...... About 5 or 6 months ago, my direct debit bounced so they charged me £30. I paid that. Then the next month they came in for more money than I expected, so again it bounced. Up til here it was my fault and I can accept that. Having spoken with some very rude people at Open and Direct, I decided to let them contact me in writing if need be. I didnt hear anything. I did however get some mail from Creation Consumer finance, which I treated as junk mail and binned, as I had never heard of them before. Big mistake. It turns out that this is the new name for open and direct! Last week I got a letter from Greenhalghs solicitors saying there were now no repayment options and that they were taking me to court for the full amount. This morning, I got a letter from Wigan county court with details of their claim against me (form N1). It is fair to say that I am now sh!tting myself as I have never had anything like this before. Help! what are my options? This has all happened over a 3-4 month period (from last payment to court letter). Is there anything I can do to call off the dogs? They are claiming £2500 which I simply don't have, but could arrange some kind of repayment scheme. Help Help Help please! :(
  21. Cheers Dave. Just to be a pain, could you point me in the direction of the template? This is a bit weird........like going back home and not really recognising anyone. Last November, I knew about 50% of people on the site!. ps. The (really obnoxious) girl I spoke with on the phone told me the debt was still live because I had "absconded" and didnt let people know a forwarding address. Is this just BS??? I did move to Wales about 10 years ago with my work. Needless to say, I really would like to stick one on them. Their attitude really was shocking. thanks again for any help guys
  22. Been a while since I was on the site, but I have a new problem. been getting a few letters from BCW recently and called them the other day to find out what it is all about. They are chasing me for approx £300 from an agreement I apparently signed in 1994 and stopped paying in 1995. truth is, I dont know if I can remember anything about this. So......I have asked them to forward me a copy of the credit agreement. But I was thinking....Is this potential debt not time barred and therefore unenforceable?????? any advice on what to do next would be great. Thanks comrades!
  23. Good to see this thread is provoking some thought. As for the libel scenarios etc, If I call someone, say, a "tosser", I dont intentionally claim he spends an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom. I am only saying I dont rate him (IMO) Some people have (I have read) written posts claiming someone is intentionally lying and deceiving them. This could be libelous and is not something I could condone. I would agree with breadline completely, people should be pointed to the most effective contact and not lead up administrative cul-de-sacs. The bottom line is, we are all entitled to an opinion. As for Tommy and other helpful bank employees, I was not saying that they just roll over so go see them first, I was simply commenting that they act quickly and professionally and do their repective employers' reputation no harm, unlike some of the charlatans you read about on other banks' posts. Know what I mean? j
  24. Got the statements through. Not as much as I had hoped, but still a couple of hundred pounds which will be better in my pocket. Prelim sent to "Big Mac" for latest bank charges. 1 quick email and he is getting them refunded (wow, that took all of 1 day to sort out). As for the Credit card centre in Southend, anyone got a good contact there to send my Prelim/ lba etc? Thanks J
