  1. Thanks aardvark - wasn't too worried about the renewed account thing as it didn't appear to have any bearing on the account - but appreciate the explanation. will research the more than 6 years debate - thanks again
  2. Trawling through statements with highlighter pen now. My statements go back to the 1980's. I know its practice to claim for the last 6 years but is it possible to go back further? should I claim first for 6 years and then hit them again for the rest? I have read in some people threads that they have claimed for more than 6 but it was not clear how to go about this. Halifax account holders can you answer this???? On my satements I have so far found 4 references to "account renewed" Just out of curiosity what on earth is this? This certainly hasn't appeared on the original statements - some of which I still have. Nice Irish lady in call centre couldn't (well said couldn't ) help me - who shall I call.Any advice?
  3. Requested statements on 29th August. Rang direct number to office that deals with all this (as supplied on this site very useful!) about 10 days ago to ask how they were getting on. Received 81 envelopes today! Is this a record?? Anyway the task starts now - feeling daunted!!
  4. This is a technical question with an apology for sounding so dense before I get chastised by a site helper for putting things in the wrong forum - I started a new thread in the Halifax forum on 7th Sept but seem to be unable to get back to it without convoluted search thorugh 'search forums'. I can easily find my original thread in 'welcome forum' but when I go back through the Halifax forum to the date I last posted there is no sign?? Dont understand!
  5. Starting a new thead in the HALIFAX forum having just had my wrists cyber slapped for continuing my thread in the welcome forum - not all of us are fully up to speed with this sort of thing but muddle through and I thought I was doing the right thing! Anyway.................. have sent off my request for info under the Data Protection Act haven't hear anything yet...I know they have 40 days to respond but is it worth a phone call to ask how they are progressing?
  6. Can I change my use name?
  7. Well done Roberto - have been following your progress
  8. Have had no word from Halifax - but then wasn't expecting to! Should I ring to ask on their progress in getting the info togther? Just out of interest for those who follow this - in previous post I mentioned I was unable to transfer money from one account to another as there was a block on the account - the cashier did finally relent and moved the money. I returned on Saturday to withdraw more money requesting a chq for large purchace being made next day - refused due to block on account - same cashier and remonmded her she carried out transacation herself a few days before etc etc - took an hour to sort out - insisted that they keep ringing ( good job my husband was with me - the voice of reason - as I was close to blowing a gasket) The block was due to missed payment on Halifax One card in November 2005 - I had closed card in Jan 2006!! At the time of missed payment they rang to inform me that they had taken payment from my 7 yr olds child account - I'd forgotten all about that. Be warned if you have money anywhere else they will come after you!
  9. Definately read the FAQ's and other threads to help you through this - The letters /templates I have copied and pasted ready to use should I have to and printed of some other stuff and made hand written notes about snippets of info relevant to my situation - once the initil letter is sent requesting your statements ( and mine go back 25 yrs so that will be interesting!) then i suggest you spend a small part of each day getting a feel for this site ( which is brill!) and building up the info you might need ready for the next stage - its all there just trawl through it and your efforts will be rewarded. Good luck!
  10. HI sent my letter out to Halifax yesterday - good luck!
  11. So what does that mean?? If they make no reference then I insist?? is it that important these manual intervention things?? Thanks
  12. Thanks - now I understand! Done some more reading etc - if my 'data' shows I have had manual intervention on my account - what exactly does that mean/ imply? Love the Dragon - improvment on that spinning tardis - making me dizzy!
  13. Ok but how can I put a list of dates and where I am up to etc that appears at the end of each post? Sorry - not my strong point the world of computers - but once shown I'm usually ok!
  14. Just been looking at another thread - pinkyv v halifax - worth a look it will give you a warm glow and maybe the panic will subside
  15. HI Roberto! Sorry no advice but just wishing you loads of luck - I embarked on this journey yesterday with the Halifax and sent my data protection letter off. I get the impression from reading loads of other peoples experiences that if you stand your ground and show them that you are serious then you will get what is due - just dont buckle. I know the scary bit comes with the court but the law is on your side - its worth the effort!
  16. Now sent my data protection letter - didn't actually state I wanted the last 6 years but took the template letter literally and asked for whole history - 25 yrs!! eeek!! Anyway will wait and see outcome. Really have bit between my teeth now - went into branch this pm and was unable to withdraw money from savings account to transfer to current account to cover overpsend on overdraft - cashier said she was unable to proceed until made a phone call - she was unable to get through on phone as she said it was a recorded message - words fail me!! More charges wil be incurred no doubt! Anyway real reason for this postings is that I am not the best at IT and am beginning to find my way round the site - all the important bits - but just how do I keep a thread going and updated? How do I access it other by a lucky click?? Sorry to sound so dim - I would like to put on my progress as it happens. Diolch! ( thanks)
  17. Jim I am also taking on the Halifax and just starting - any advice welocome and keep your progress posted please!
  18. Okay beginning to get a feel for this now - my only concerns are the threat of the bank closing my account and demanding payment of overdraft in full - I have access to another account so no problem there but I would not be able to pay overdraft in full. Just what are the chanes of this happepening and is there anywhere on this ite I can read accounts of people whi have dealt with / dealing with Halifax?
  19. Thanks Crusher! Your postive last line was all I needed to take them on!
  20. Just found this ite after having unsucessful phone call with Halifax PLC - got home from hols tomfind total of 5 letters each happily announcing another charge for exceeding my overdraft limit by £100 - charges I think now total over £170 and more on way says cheery customer services person. Halifax say all charges will stand as they are valid...........help??????please any advice
