  1. The letter I have been asked to send is to tell the debt agency that they have 12 days in which to show proof that I owe money and to mention the Consumer Credit act 1974 sections 77-78. and to advise them that if they do dont get in touch or show proof that any further threats will be passed on to the relevent bodies
  2. I have been in contact with Consumer direct and they have informed me that I need to send a letter but this time recorded delivery. Do you have a template letter available ?
  3. As for owing Council tax , I was living on my own and unemployed getting either Incapacity benefit or Jobseekers Allowance and therefore entitled to Council tax benefit > I know I applied for it and got it. It seems that they are unwilling to look into it although I have proof of Incapacity benefit but not Jobseekers as the DWP dont hold records that far back. And according to the council I had 3 months in which to appeal from the date they say they sent the letters. They say they sent the letters in the beginning of August 2004., I sold the property in August 2004 and left there on the ban
  4. There is a liability order now . But surely if I was on benefits and was claiming the council tax benefit at the time . Common sense will prevail . I have repeatedly asked for a bill so I can check the debt
  5. In August I got a letter from a debt agency asking for council tax relating to a previous property that I left almost 6 years ago. I followed it up and got in touch with the Council and found out that it council tax that they believe I owe from 2001-2003 . Now I left my property in August 2004. I did inform the local council of this but at that time I didnt know where I would be living . The council say that they found the error after I left and still sent the letters to my old address. But from October 2001 to 2008 I was either on Incapacity Benefit or Jobseekers Benefit. They know

Now I initially got a letter from Zinc asking for payment for a company I dont know . So I asked for more details and never heard anything .I now lately I have been getting letters from Philips . I did contact them via email asking them to tell me what the debt was for as Zinc had not got back to me. But Philips are ignoring me . I have also sent letters but now the letter is a previsit notice . I have had no legal letters apart from these.
  7. Hi I have had a letter from the above people . I emailed them basically sayith that I wanted proof that I owe th emoney that they are asking for. I also sent them a letter to them and the original company that sent a similar letter called Zinc Collections. I have never called them as I dont want the harrasment. I have now received an email back saying "Due to Data Protection guidelines we require you to contact the office to confirm your personal details, in order for us to deal with your query. Do I have to call them or is the letter sufficient ?
  8. I had a letter recently from the above people stating that I owed money to my old council back in August 2004. I left that area nearly six years ago. I did own a house but from 2001 I was unemployed and getting Job seekers or incap benefit and I must have been getting help with the mortgage and council tax as I would have been entitled to it. Then out of the blue I get a letter from these people asking for a sum of 1.5k but I cannot understand from where. I ignored the first letter but got a second a week later . I called them from a phone box and asked them what this was all about.

  10. I have also had a letter from this company saying I have money tied up in my property to pay off a debt that I didnt know existed. I did get a similar letter from another company called ruthbridge and I wrote to them asking for proof but never had a reply. Should I do a similar letter for this company or should I ignore this letter. Ps I have never owned a house and have always rented
  11. well here is an update Today I received a letter telling me that if I dont arrange payment within 7 days then a person would come round to my house to arrange payment. They make no reference to the letter that I sent them. So what do I do next as they have still not told me what the debt is for etc . Please advise
  12. Sorry to ask but in the prove it letter the last 2 paragraphs are confusing . Am I to choice one or the other . And if the second last paragraph is to be used , at what point do I use the last paragraph?
  13. HI thannks for all the info . I have attached the letter and removed all the personal data. I dont think there is an account number as the client ref mentioned is just that a client reference and not a account number . What do you think ? I think its just a fishing exercise as a week before I had a letter from the above company addressed to " The Occupier " asking me to call them . This I didnt do , I just threw the letter away So should I send the CCA letter or the other one as suggested M
  14. Many thanks for this Do I send this letter with the obvious adjustments or is there something else I should also do in the meantime
  15. Hi I have today 17/9/09 received a letter from the above people saying that I owe money on a debt to Abbey National. Now this is the first I have heard of this so I need advice on what to do as I hear that the procedure is to go with care. I havent called the company but I have read that it would not be a good Idea to do so. Now I used to have a house with Abbey national but I sold that back in 2004 and the Mortgage was paid off. So it cant be that . I am unsure what it could be and I dont want to land myself in debt if I can help it . What should I do first ? The letter is saying
