  1. What beats me is why anyone would pay fees to an unqualified MF. If they've got that sort of money available they'd be better paying a qualified professional. I have experience of MF's but it's been done for the benefit of the people involved and at no cost. Oh yes. They were friends. The clue is in the name!!
  2. Worrying indeed. The FCA have been doing good work but if they have their wings clipped they'll be no better than the defunct FSA.
  3. No point beating about the bush. I hope your friend listens. Let us know how you get on.
  4. Doh! What a dimwit. Should have read it properly!
  5. All help needs to stay on the thread. Protects both parties and can help others too.
  6. IMHO not dealing with it is more likely to set off alarm bells which is why it's important to deal with ASAP.
  7. I'm afraid this is unlikely to stop the compliance people investigating if they believe there has been an overpayment. The sooner she faces up to the problem and deals with it the better. If she doesn't cooperate and give her side of events they may draw their own conclusions from the evidence they have, bearing in mind they can access bank statements. The stress will get worse the longer she leaves it. Much better to tackle it before she has surgery so she can concentrate on her recovery. It's much better to know what you're dealing with than worry about what it might be. Please encourage her to see them ASAP.
  8. What they are offering is premiums paid and 8% simple interest less 20% tax on the interest. They are saying I agreed to charges under t&c's. No mention of compound interest. I am now thinking that the early redemption may have gone into a consolidated loan but need the paperwork to be sure. I'll certainly say I believe that happened. The more I think about it the more I'm determined to fight for every penny.
  9. Hi Fielder. I had misread your thread and thought this was the amount of the arrears. I now see that the arrears were more than this. Can you please confirm what the court ordered you to pay above your mortgage payment, and for how long. When calculating the charges that you want to claim back, please bear in mind that you cannot claim back solicitors costs, especially when it's been to court. Unless the court specifically says you don't have to pay them for some reason, they will usually allow them to be charged, although I don't believe that they can charge interest on them.
  10. I just wanted to say well done for facing up to this and well done to your mum for setting you on the right track. I really hope the gambling is behind you now. It's far too easy to do online and annoys me whenever I see ads for it. Well done you though.
  11. You never know. Needs more investigating methinks.
  12. I don't think it was as I remember it being cancelled and the rule of 78 cancellation being explained. But if there were more loans than I remember .....
  13. That's what I need next then.
  14. Don't worry. I have experience of them and don't trust them an inch. Did they get statements of the loans? I'll def be pushing for full info.
  15. I have got current account statements from a sar but no loan statements. Rule of 78. http://moneyfacts.co.uk/guides/loans/rule-78-guides/#
  16. I remember them cancelling one policy when I took out a new loan and they applied the rule of 78 as a cancellation fee as they were apparently losing interest on it due to the cancellation. I now know it could have been used instead of starting a new one. Don't know if they rolled one over or not. Hope so!!
  17. They say I had 5, 3 of which had ppi but the other 2 paid off straight away so nothing paid on those. I wasn't with the bank more than about 3 years so seems odd.
  18. They have included 8% simple interest but I think I paid 10 or 11% and will question it and ask for more detail. I was also OD a lot at the time and the interest rate on that was high I think. The acceptance letter makes it clear if I accept it's F&F. I'll have a think over the next few days a about whether to accept it or push for more detail and hold out for more. Who knows how long that would take.
  19. Most councils have an empty homes officer. Even if the insurance co is falling short, you can argue that later, but the repair needs sorting urgently. You could see if your insurance will provide temporary accommodation if you don't have another room you can use. I doubt they'll want to but it might buck their ideas up.
  20. Happy new year to me! Just had a letter offering me a little over £2k I'm not entirely happy with this as they haven't included charges interest is at 8% I'm pretty sure I was paying a higher amount. Neither have they provided a detailed enough calculation, but at least I know this is to come. I've got 21 days to respond.
