What a brilliant web site; wish I'd seen it a few weeks ago!About three weeks ago my wife received an ominous threatening letter from these people, who I had never heard of, which caused her grest distress. We racked our brains trying to think what involvement we could possibly have had with them and in the end phoned them. Turns out they had bought an account from Hitachi finance which my wife took out 4 years ago for laser eye surgery, and claimed she owed £104 (despite it being paid by direct debit)....I just coughed up the money there and then in order to avoid any more distress for my wife. We got another letter acknowledging the payment a week or so later, but promising dire consequences if the payment didn't go through. At that point I began to compose a letter of complaint regarding their tone and requesting details of the the alleged 'debt' (maybe should have done that first!). Anyway, yesterday, we received a phone call from them cheerily asking if they could introduce us to "independent mortgage adivsors"! I was speechless but manged to get rid of them. Does anyone know if this constitutes cold calling and is it legal or not?
