  1. Yes I am sure I'm using the gov.uk site. I used the link BazzaS told me about. As I stated in my initial post, my father didn't like spending money and most likely when the Land Registry changed to details online, he might have had to pay for them to do that and that's why he retained the deeds amongst his paperwork. Rare or not, that was him to a tee! He purchased the property in 1959/60 and I remember he paid the mortgage off early.
  2. Thanks BazzaS for that response. I have checked the link for the Land Registry and nothing is recorded for the property. Yes it was a joint tenancy so passes to my mother. Does that mean that the deeds can remain in paper form whilst she is alive?
  3. My parents owned their own property as joint tenants. My father kept the deeds in the local branch of his Bank as they did not charge for this service. However, when the bank changed from one to another, the new bank informed him that there would be an annual charge for keeping the deeds. He didn't like spending money so he opted to keep the deeds at their property. He has recently passed away and we have found the deeds, still in their original paper form. My mother talks about selling the property, which leads to my question: In order to sell the property does she first need to get my fathers name removed from the deeds and do they have to be registered with the Land Registry to be entered online as is the modern way, rather than retaining paper deeds? Thanks for any assistance.
  4. No I didn't. She started receiving it in June this year. In that case are you saying that the letter she received in March stating how much she would get would be the proof they require?
  5. Yeah I tried phoning them today, after spending two hours being told I am number one in the queue I gave up!
  6. None of that applies to someone only in receipt of a state pension though. What proof does she get? Nothing apart from her pension paid straight into her bank. As I stated previously she does NOT get any benefits. So I ask again, what proof can she give?
  7. Many thanks. So looking at that as she only receives a state pension of less than £12k she is eligible to pay half the fee being £41 per LPA. As she only receives a State Pension, what proof of low income can she give them. Will a letter suffice explaining that this is her only income?
  8. Can anyone please advise on the fees for setting up a LPA online? They are usually somewhere in the region of £80'ish each. My wife wants to do one for Health and another for Property. She receives no benefits, her only income is her State Pension so total income is less than £12500 per annum. In light of this, what does she have to pay for each LPA? Many thanks.
  9. Many, many thanks to all who have responded. I shall be doing some reading into the links sent. Quite a minefield!
  10. Good evening everyone. I seek some advice regarding the current situation with my parents. Any advice gratefully appreciated. One week ago today my Dad who is a couple of months away from reaching his 100th Birthday had a fall and ended up in Hospital. Prior to this he had already been diagnosed with onset dementia which you could see was slowly taking over. More days were full of confusion than those without. To date he is still in hospital and it looks very unlikely that he will be allowed to return home. Yes he is still in his own home with my Mum who is housebound. As far as he was concerned it was his responsibility to look after her and would not allow any assistance from carers. Wheels are now in motion to locate him a care home nearby as he requires 24hr care. We are going to have Mum move in with us and have a care package set up for her whilst we are at work. At the beginning of this year Mum set up a POA with me as her Attorney regarding her property and finances. Their Wills leave everything to me and my wife. They have a savings account in Joint names with the Nationwide Building Society and Mum has told me to get the money in that account transferred to my account as I will be taking over their bills, finances etc. Having a POA in place for Mum, with Dad now not being mentally aware of where he is let alone anything else am I able to approach the Building Society regarding transferring their account to my own account as Mum wishes or am I likely to encounter problems etc.? The POA has been recorded with the Office of the Public Guardian, and was drawn and kept by a Solicitor. Any advice most welcome. TIA.
