One thing I would like to add is: when I get caught, they did not call the police nor ask me sign any document, only asked my name and address written on a blank paper. But the manager did say they will send me a civil recovery letter of 150 pounds. When I read other post, for civil recovery, do they normally ask people to sign a form at least? I was taken to the manager's office, I do not know whether there is CCTV or voice recorder in the room (I have not been told by them I will be recorded). For the worst case, if i do not pay the civil recovery and been asked to go to a court or the police been asked to get involved, will they be able to make decision based on the evidence they have? Will there be any bad record been left even if I win the case? I am still a student, so I am really care about the record as it will effect when I look for jobs......

But the manager took my name and address......he told me that although they did not call the police, but they will pass on my information nationally to all sainsburys stores, this time is a warning and next time will call the police. If I do not pay their civil recovery bill. Will they change mind and contact police again, since they have my name and address? I am so worried to leave any bad record for this and the least thing I want to is to speak to a police and make a record for this..... Another thing I am worry about is that if I do pay their civil recovery bill, will this case be ended? Or they will ask more?

I have been caught as Shoplifting in my local sainsburys....I promise it is my first time and something really mad must be happening in my mind...I am so regretted....The shop manager did not call the police and told me it will go through civil recovery and I will be receiving a fine of 150 pounds. I am wondering whether the civil recovery will leave any record? will it effect my future visa application or job application? I am still a student...I really do not want to have this known to everyone....
