  1. I could not find any contact information for either the CEO or MPs of Westminster, but I did find contact information for my councillors. Will contacting them do any good?
  2. So now that i know the fees are not valid what should I do aside from ignoring the bailiff? I sent a complaint letter to Equita already, is there anything else I can do to get this sorted? Contacting Westminster City Council, as I did already, seemed to do nothing.
  3. I think i should post the following exact timeline to ensure everyone has full understanding of my situation: 10 January - Received bill from Westminster City Council - for 105 pounds. Emailed Westminster City Council to clarify what exactly the charges were for 22 January - Received letter from Equita (delivered by post) stating that if payment was not made immediately, the case will be passed on to a bailiff. Coincidentally also received response from Westminster City Council explaining what the debt was for. 22 January - Paid the full council tax debt of 105 pounds to Westminster City Council (online) 28 January - Received Bailiff Removal (24 hour notice) letter, hand delivered by the bailiff (not even sure whether the bailiff actually visited, as there was no knock, only a letter). Called bailiff explaining debt was paid one week ago, and he said I should contact Westminster City Council. Bailiff also stated the debt was 250 pounds. Contated Westminster City Council, they assured the account was clear, and they would send an email to Equita stating the account is clear. 7 February - Received another letter from Equita (by post) re: Westminster City Council Tax, a removal notice stating that "our recovery officers have been unable to make contact with you at home. I have, therefore, rearranged for them to be in your are with a removal contractor during the course of the next two weeks." To sum up, the council tax was paid to the council before the supposed bailiff visit, but on the same day I received a letter from equita.
  4. So if i gather correctly, I do not owe anything to Equita since I already paid the council tax before the Bailiff visited? Therefore, I assume I should just ignore them? Will this affect my records, for example immigration upon re-entering the country (as I am an international student), or applying for a mobile phone contract? I have sent them a complaint letter as per suggested above as well.
  5. The letters from Equita was through the post (two of them), but there is one letter that was hand delivered by the bailiff himself. I am fairly certain that Westminster Council Tax has farmed out their ctax dept to Capita. I should also note I live in a flat, so there is only one point of entry, and I have no vehicles.
  6. I am not sure about whether its just the fees being chased, or if it is the fees in addition to the debt itself. No, never visited, never even heard them knock. Only letters through the letterbox and one voice call. So should I call equita and explain things? Or should i send them an email? Or should i ignore? Thanks
  7. Last week on the 28th of January (Tuesday), I received a 24 hour notice stating that my goods will be removed if the debt is not paid, due to arrears for a council tax on an old property. However, I have actually paid off the council tax straight to Westminster around three weeks ago. Upon receiving the 24 hour notice, I contacted Westminster City Council, and they confirmed the account was clear, and will send an email to Equita stating so. After that point, we called the bailiff to relay this message. They have not made a repeat visit or attempted further contact. However, today, I received another letter from Equita (not the bailiff), re: Westminster Council Tax, stating the bailiff was unable to make contact, and that they will be back within the course of two weeks with 'removal contractors', unless we settle the debt. What should be my next course of action? Thank you!
