  1. Hi UncleB, thanks for responding. I did call them back and it appears to be hit & miss with Devitt and dependent upon which Customer service agent you get. Spoke with a very pleasant lady and told her that I, like them recorded all calls and gave date time of call and specific time at which a green card was stipulated in order for me to take out the policy. *Two days later a hard copy of the green card landed on my doorstep. *Free of charge too.
  2. Hi, been a while since I have sought the invaluable advice from the CAG community, but alas I need your help again. I have insurance with Devitt,(for my motorcycle) and on taking the policy out I asked, as I had been advised to request the "Green Card". So, I live in N. Ireland and was intending to go to the Irish Republic this coming weekend. I started my checks as regards driving license, insurance etc to see all documents were in place in order for me to cross the border and guess what!? .....No Green Card. Called Devitt and asked them to issue me the Green Card, .....again! and was told there was " a £15 Underwriter charge." Is this correct and surely as many insurers do it would be offered free of charge or as a goodwill gesture for their failure to include on my policy as originally requested?
  3. Hi, it's been awhile since I have been on the boards but alas again I am seeking your advice. Was on marketplace (Facebook) and noticed a torque wrench for sale, it was a good quality snap on and it was at a very attractive price. (Yes I know). I am in N. Ireland and the seller in Blackpool, England. Entered into negotiation with seller and he agreed to post as long as I paid postage. I agreed and made payment (my 1st mistake) by bank transfer and immediately after making payment he "left the conversation" This alarmed me but I decided to give benefit of doubt and await postage. I have his name, address and telephone number and rang him and he confirmed but was him so I relaxed and awaited postage. The very next day, I noticed he had blocked me so I called him again but this time he denied he was the guy he had said he was the day before. So at this point the scam alert was in full swing in my head and I called my bank who identified it as a "Push Scam" and they said they would approach his bank and try and get my money back. I asked if they could reverse the payment and bill him for the pleasure and was told no as I had made a transfer and not paid with card. I rang the guy and left a message telling him I had contacted my bank, they were pursuing the money and I had his name, address and telephone number and asked him why he had scamned using all his details? Contacted action Fraud and gave them all his details and then received message from my bank. My bank told me that they had asked his bank for my money but he had already withdrawn it and the case is now closed!!!!! So, today after being messed around with text messages, I get a call back telling me he was sorry, but "tough shit"! and he laughed at me and put the phone down. I have been scammed, I know I was stupid in doing bank transfer but I have paid this way before and have had good experience with good people, why is it that one low life can destroy any trust we have in others? Any recommendations on how I can give this low life some of his just desserts?
  4. Hi Craig, thanks for the quick reply, I have notified the roads authority through the online system as soon as I got home and got a reference code. My worry is that there are markings around the hole and one even has a "Gas" label on it, my worry is that the markings negate the roads/infrastructure authority, .... Or am I wrong?
  5. Hi, was driving along a town centre road at at the last minute spotted a huge pothole and attempted to swerve to avoid. The front wheels missed the pothole but my rear wheel rim took the full impact of the pothole and lost a chunk of the alloy. I then changed the wheel to my spare and drove home very annoyed and reported the pothole online to my local roads authority. So I'm now sitting with an alloy that appears kaput and a tyre no longer staying inflated and I'm peeved that I have just spent £250 to tax my car and feel my roads authority owe me a new wheel. I will try and upload a picture or two and would appreciate your invaluable input as to how I seek justice?
  6. Hi guys, it's been a while since I last sought some advice but as I'm sure you can see by the title I am one of the many with a dodgy whirlpool/creda tumble dryer. Before the most recent whirlpool moving of goal posts in the last week I reacted when the Government stepped in at the begining of July 2019. I called Whirlpool and was not surprised to find that I had one of the deadly Tumble dryers, I was told to unplug my machine immediately and they would arrange for an engineer to come and see me. I work for myself and the only time I am available is from 7- 8am and after 6pm. I was told that they could not guarantee me a time but could only give me a four hour window and after 6pm was not within their available times. An engineer arrived at 10.30am and put a sticker on my machine stating "DO NOT USE" and issued me a print out confirming that he had issued me this disclaimer. I asked why he was unable to fix and was told he didn't have the parts. I asked what parts were needed and was told. New drum with a conical back and something for the rear of the machine. Ten days later and having to take another morning off work the engineer arrived and changed the parts, then upon final inspection he discovered the "new" drum was warped and told me he would have to order another. Five days later and still without dryer, the engineer returned and changed drum and left. This was at the start of the really hot spell we have been experiencing of late and I foolishly never checked the dryer and just did my washing and hung on clothes line. Today I have a big summer wash and clothes line full so I thought I would use dryer to speed things along and started the machine to be greeted by a squeal and a realisation that there is no heat in any setting, it simply tosses and turns clothes but doesn't dry! Called the Hotpoint recall line and was politely told that it was not a recall problem as my machine had been mended, rather it was a Customer Service issue!!?? I asked why it wasn't a recall issue as my machine was fully working before the work performed and my machine had not been mended rather it had been broken!?? Contacted Customer Service and have been told that they will not be sending an engineer out and as my machine is a few years old my damage was coincidental with the recall work and was now broken due to wear & tare!!!???
  7. Thanks Craig, I have discovered through the internet that these are supplied with space saver spare and therefore Jack & wheel brace.
  8. Have just returned from helping a family friend out this evening, she was stranded at road side with puncture, and no spare wheel, car jack, wheel brace or emergency puncture repair kit in the car.The car was the lady's first and she bought on the basis of colour and because it was cute, in other words the car dealer saw her coming and quickly worked out she was not aware of what to look for when buying a car. So, tonight in pouring rain and in the dark at the side of the road I had to give her and her son a lift and abandon her car at roadside. Before, I call the 2nd hand car dealer tomorrow, I want to calm down abit and seek the advice of CAG on this matter. I understand that many cars are no longer sold with spare tyres/wheels and a foam repair kit is often supplied, but this car I now know is supposed to be supplied with a spare wheel as the deep hole in the boot suggests. There is no tools present/supplied to jack the car and nor is there a wheel brace.Am I correct in thinking that legally these should have been supplied? What course of action would you recommend? Thanks as always for any help offered.
  9. The homophobes win on appeal! One small step forward and one GIANT leap back.
  10. I'd ask him if you could view his CCTV and write to him requesting that he maintains a copy for future reference.
  11. Thanks Jamberson, It was one long undivided bay and she was an awful woman. I have a Google earth link posted in the opening post if you look to the right the long bay is just outside Solicitors Doherty & Brennan.
  12. mHi guys , I was in my town centre earlier attempting to park, I have attached a photograph of the exact bay(Coleraine N.Ireland) This was at 4.50pm and there was a car parked at the rear of the bay as is demonstrated by the photograph. There then would/should be enough parking for a further two cars in theory and normal practice, however I arrived to find another car at least 2 metres from the car behind and not enough room for me to get my front wheels inside the box in front. As I was attempting to manoeuvre I got a knock on my passenger window stating they were the car behind and I was cm from the front of their car and not legally parked in the space! I smiled, apologized and asked if they would be awfully decent and give me three to four feet of that 2m space they had behind them, and was point blank told No! So, at this point a traffic warden arrived and ordered me to move and when I told him that the other party was "deliberately" occupying two spaces and when asked to accommodate another car had refused. He stated he didn't care and his concern was that I had two wheels on double yellow lines. ......So, I missed my appointment! my question is, I had a friend who received a ticket for being parked across two parking bays in a car park. This is one large parking space/bay that was designed to accommodate three normal cars and due to one Party being deliberately awkward was only able to accommodate two, why does this not qualify for a ticket or an instruction to park with more consideration? How do I attach a picture? PS: This is not private parking, it is parking at road sides controlled by local council. 48 New Row https://goo.gl/maps/jcQKKk1oJzs
  13. I beg to differ, he never claimed the essay to be his own work, in the thread title it was attributed to the London Times.
  14. Funny that you are Aviva and the other party is LV labrat, I had an accident on Feb 9th this year when the 3rd party pulled across into my lane on a one way system and accused me of being at fault. After months of fighting and doing the insurers job myself, I got two business owners who witnessed the accident submitted statements supporting my claim. Still LV would not admit liability and ignored all Aviva's deadlines, eventually I rang Aviva and gave them a piece of my mind telling them that I had been left out in the cold and I wanted something sorted asap, I got a really decent lady who told me that she agreed with me and would it be ok if she took my claim on herself. This is a major party of these insurers problem is that no one or two people take on a claim and you have to go over the same ground time after time. Anyways, this lady told me that there was considerable animosity between LV & Aviva and they (Aviva) found LV to always drag their heels and delay everything when they are at fault. So she said she would ring them and get back later that afternoon. Half an HR later I had a call back and LV had admitted responsibility, only took 6 months.
  15. Hi king12345 it was the first thing I bought the day after the accident, wouldn't be without it now.
  16. Yes! You are not prepared to suffer the adverse effects of microwaves on your brain is one that I'd use. It's medical and the reason is legitimate.
  17. As an update this thread is now concluded. After months I pushed my insurer to call the other party's hand and give them an ultimatum which they did. Finally the other party's insurer based upon the statements provided by my independent witnesses and the photos provided admitted responsibility! So, I asked them to refund my Insurance Excess and they stated that they would include it amongst their charges for hire car etc. Yesterday it was six months and a day and I decided that I wanted this episode done & dusted, contacted my Solicitor who advised me to first call the other party's insurance and deal direct with them. I did and in an afternoon the other party's insurer refunded my excess deduction, refunded me my expenses incurred including transportation of replacement car from England to Ireland and a compensation award for the seat belt injury suffered in the accident. No solicitors, no other party acting on my behalf, just me being polite, firm and fair got the episode concluded. So, if you are involved in a non fault accident and like me have no legal cover, do not fear taking insurers on yourself.
  18. On Friday past I called my Insurer and asked that they kick this can up the road as the other party's insurer had ignored all previous correspondence, this morning was called by my claims handler and told that my insurance had threatened legal action if they had not responded in 14 days and three days later the other party's insurance has admitted liability! So, I asked my insurer what do I do now!?? Can I have my excess payment back please! What about personal injury/inconvenience,costs incurred? I was told that my insurer would be pursuing their costs, hire car etc and I would need to appoint my only solicitor to pursue my own costs!!? Is this normal? If so am I better using my local solicitor or one of those ambulance chaser outfits?
  19. I never have trusted banks Kaily! . On a serious note, you should have your savings working for you rather than your bank.
  20. Why would you wish to keep savings in a bank account, as far as I'm concerned you'd be better off with it below your mattress as interest is miniscule on savings accounts.
