In July this year, my husband dropped our winter weight superking duvet and two pillows off at our local dry cleaner to be laundered. On the 12th July I collected both - all packaged up - and took them home. The pillows went straight back onto the spare bed but the heavy duvet remained in the packaging until this week (no need for a winter duvet given the summer we had!) On taking it out of the wrapping it became clear it wasn't ours - similar type, but king size rather than superking. Took it back to the cleaners and after much to-ing and fro-ing they're now saying they aren't liable because our duvet was originally entered into their system as king size, and we apparently only paid for cleaning of a king size. Unfortunately, my husband didn't clock this when he took the tag from them, which isn't helping. We're now out one very expensive superking goose down duvet; before the small claims court (which I'm loathe to do) what are our options? We no longer have the tag, as that was handed back when we collected. I have my bank statement showing I paid for the cleaning, and I know we're registered on their system. (Today they suggested we accept a superking duvet which they've had for over a year and belonged to someone else. Ew.) Help!
