  1. Hi, this is my first post here and hopefully someone can help. I used to bank with Barclays with a savings and current account at university in the midlands. I had a 1.5k interest free student overdraft and found it near impossible to pay off due to the horrific charges Barclays charged. I'd been working a low paid job for about a year struggling to pay the over draft off when I switched banks in about 2009. During this time I was making small direct debits into the account every month initially to get out of the "reserve" fund they stuck on my account without asking my permission. Basically, should I go over the £1.5k overdraft they would honour an extra £150 but with a daily charge capped at something like £25. It was ludicrous. Once out of the reserve I stopped the direct debits and changed banks to Nationwide. I have a Barclays savings account, which I haven't checked since changing banks. I had the intention of paying Barclays back in a lump sum when I could afford to but this has not happened. I moved cities and have had no contact with Barclays since about 2009. They always contacted me via post and I have never changed my mobile number. What is my best option? Can I safely withdraw my savings account money and claim back the unfair charges still? What are the laws regarding paying back current account overdrafts? I've not received anything to suggest it's officially debt in the legal sense. Thanks for your help!
