  1. Hi assisted blond, No it is definitely not fit for purpose. The roof is a cheap, poor design and shaped like a saucer along the back wall. No roof would ever fit to it. The front is badly bowed outwards. Daylight can be seen between every plank and there are more cracks and holes in it than a teabag. There is nothing to hold the bottom of the windows in place, so they rattle about and you can actually put your hands through them. As far as the height goes, when I ordered it, I never for a second imagined that sheds would be sold to anyone at such a low height such as an average height man couldn't stand upright in it. If it had been advertised as a hobbit shed, then ok. I wouldn't put a dog in it and would doubt a dog would want to go in it. I got some advice from Consumer Advice today and like you say, the onus falls on the poor contractor and not the mongrels who are selling this rubbish. No point in me hounding the contractor as I know any attempts made with the shed company will be in vain . I can only assume that gardenbuildingsonline use bogus reviews next to their products as after doing a search online today from other sources, it turns out that there are lots and lots of angry people who have had the same problems as myself with them and their Billyoh Sheds. Looks like I have lost all that money and am back to the drawing board and in search of a replacement shed before it gets windy or rains. These people should not be allowed to trade rubbish and get away with it. Typically, the consumer loses again. The rip off continues until it can be stopped
  2. Have you personally contacted ebay and spoken to someone about this? Also, have you had a look at the buyers feedback....especially the feedback left for others or as a buyer'? Some people can never be pleased at any level but this can reflect in their feedback. This can work in your favour. Ebay's policies being pro buyer and anti seller are soooo unfair. They will have your bank account details that they took when you verified your account and can take monies from your account to recoup their/or the buyers expenses. Go and check their feedback and whether or not you find anything suspicious of them, contact ebay too and tell them your side of the story. Good luck!!! xx
  3. Thanks for all the input everyone. I stuck to my guns and took the complaint to head office and stuck with it. Took a few letters but they gave up in the end and decided to waive the fees. Hoorah!! Too many people out there want something for nothing nowadays but if we can stick together and help each other, we can win the fight. Thanks to all!!! xxxx
  4. Am in need of urgent advice. Was having work done in the garden via a contractor and decided to add a shed to the project. The contractor purchased the shed online for me......I chose it etc. Anyways, this was done back in February and the shed was supposed to be delivered within week or 2, except it wasn't. The contractor gave up trying to chase it up as the customer services as the company selling the shed was so bad, so I took up the quest 6 weeks down the line. It took at least 8 calls to discover that although they had taken the money back in Feb, they had never put the order through for dispatch or anything. They had forgotten all about it and thought it was pretty funny. I complained to the manager of the shed company by email and again by letter and was ignored. It did eventually arrive after me chasing it up with the couriers and after waiting another week to be slotted in to have it privately fitted, it was installed today complete with added extras paid by myself for lighting, sockets etc. The contractors did a brilliant job, but the shed is the worst piece of rubbish I have ever seen in my life. You can see daylight between every plank of wood, the roof doesn't fit and sits well off the actual panels. I am 5' 2" tall and can barely stand up in it at the highest point and the windows are thin, cheap perspex with no seals and nothing to hold them in. I have waited 7 weeks and forked out a fortune between contractors and the actual shed company for the biggest lot of rubbish ever and it wasn't cheap I hasten to add. I spent so much time and effort calling them to get the shed here in the first place and have had nothing but hassle from them so far on that point alone. The contractor is not to blame in any way, but this shed is absolute shoddy rubbish. Is there anything I can do about this? Do I have any rights? Any info most welcome.
  5. Thanks so far for the replies To Mrs E Blackadder - yes, running the policy out naturally did seem the best option. But Swinton said that as soon as someone else insures the bike, it would show up on a database as then being double-insured, therefore landing me in BIG trouble . Jeez, those agents are so adorable. To unclebulgaria67 - Whether The FOS allows Insurers to include cancellation admin fees within their policy terms up to a max of £50 for private Insurances or not, does not make it ethically right. There was no contract signed at any time. Would you or anyone for that matter be happy to lose what you had already paid, fork out £50 for something you aren't even getting and get abused and threatened into the bargain? There are horror stories all over the internet about this company. Bully boy tactics such as these must be stopped. They are not sending out a bill, just referring me directly to their debt collectors and extra charges.
  6. Hi huggy41. I don't think you understand. They don't intend to give me anything back and are charging me £50 to cancel, except they aren't sending me a bill and giving me the option to pay this, they are passing it straight over to debt collectors where it will grow all sorts of extra costs and fees. I have held dozens and dozens of insurance policies over the years and never once has there been any problems or hidden costs whenever I've had to cancel them due to selling or scrapping vehicles. I am indeed well 'with the life' which is why I feel their tactics are indeed very wrong and why I am asking for advice.
  7. I started a policy with Swinton Bikes 9 months ago and immediately paid the premium of £85 in full by debit card. The bike was sold a few days ago so I called Swinton to cancel, expecting to get a refund on the 3 months left on the policy. Instead, I was told that I would have to pay them £50 to cancel and no, they will not be refunding the existing amount already paid I told them that the policy was paid in full at I wasn't due them anything, that they were due me a refund. I said that I had signed no agreements or anything and told them I wasn't prepared to fork out another £50 for nothing. The man on the phone became rude and obnoxious and threatened me with a debt collection agency. Talk about bully boy gangster tactics. Late last night (well passed office hours) I got a call from Swinton. The chap says he has been looking at my policy and has noticed that Breakdown Cover had not been activated and he was going to activate it for me. I didn't take Breakdown Cover in the first place, nor did I pay for it and as the policy has now been cancelled, I certainly didn't want it. Alarm bells are ringing! From what I have read during recent research of Swinton, they have the power to access your bank account and basically take what they want. There is also a section in their small print that basically says they can help themselves to bank accounts so have had to go and cancel my debit card today in case they try. In the meantime, as well as being frantic with worry, can anyone advise me on what to do now please? From what I can gather about Swinton, my £50 non existant debt will get passed to a debt collection agency. These agencies go under the Swinton umbrella. The £50 will accrue all sorts of added costs and charges, pushing me further into a debt that doesn't exist. Surely they should at least send out a bill for the fleeced money to begin with and at least give me the chance to be ripped off.........I mean, pay up? A bill along with a threat would buy me some time to sort this out. I did consider sending back the policy with a cover letter today and a cheque for £50 just to keep them off my back but a cheque would give them my bank details which I don't want them to have access to. I have read a lot of scary stories over the past few days regarding the tactics of Swinton and am now so scared that I am unable to eat or sleep. Any advice most welcome.
