  1. Yes he has received one, just listing the car, which we have already said does not belong to the debtor, he has refused to look at the evidence proving this. I'm assuming the levy fee must be paid? Or can it be disputed considering the car doesn't belong to him? ETA: the letter was dated the 6th, the same day he received his 24 hour notice, this was also the bailiffs first visit.
  2. I will tell him that Just wondering, can a levy fine be charged if they did not gain access to the house? There is a broken car on the drive which does not belong to him - Is this why he has a levy fee?
  3. Update - I received a text from the bailiff, who told me there was a 50quid levy fee, and a 160 enforcement fee. I then rang the council and asked to pay off my exes arrears, I paid 900, the original balance was 817 (1027.42 with the bailiff) I then told the bailiff that it was payed but he is still asking for the FULL payment? My ex offered him a payment plan of 10 a week, and even said we paid the council extra for the 46.50 ( and im assuming the 50 levy fee), so in all he only owes the bailiff £13.50? What course of action should be taken here? Should we now ignore the bailiff completely, and challange any other fees ( I have a feeling he will show up today in his van and try to charge my ex for that) even though he now knows the debt has been paid? Should he let the bailiff take him to court? He has rang equita about it but they keep saying it's up to the bailiff. And the council are saying we need to sort out the bailiff too All advice has been brilliant thankfully the debt is now paid off now, so at least thats sorted, it's just this pesky bailiff who seems to want to suck the life out of everything
  4. Sorry, all I know is he was taken to court for not paying (he was paying his half but his housemate was not paying his), and received several final demand letters, I believe he missed 3-4 payments. After this he was told to pay £144 a month, again he paid his half for two payments, but his housemate wasnt paying his, and then his housemate quit his job, leaving my ex to pay full rent, food, bills etc, he has defaulted on around 5 payments after this. The letters are all in my exes name, even though the council know his friend is living with them and works. The bailiff has called at the house only to post a letter, all other times after 5pm my ex has told me the bailiff has not knocked, or rang. It was only today when he received the letter saying he had 24 hours (received it whilst he was at work) and not received any other proof that the bailiff has visited at any other time ETA : will paying directly through the council pay off the whole owed payments or next years (2012-13) I have no problem paying off his debt directly through the council, however I do have major concerns paying the bailiff and any fees
  5. My ex has received a letter after failing to pay his council tax (After receiving a CCJ). A bailiff letter was sent, first saying that one would be in the area in the next two weeks, and now he has been sent one saying he has 24 hours to pay in full. Numerous ( at least 50 phone calls, and several letters) attempts have been made to contact him to arrange a payment plan, and also to pay the debt in full, but he constantly ignores the attempts. He is not sure what to do now in regards to the debt, and Im hoping someone has some answers here. Is it best to just go back to the council and pay THEM in full and ignore the bailiff from now on? Thanks in advance
  6. Hi, thankyou for your answer I have very good references, always paid rent on time, not been in arrears etc I also have a full time working, home owning guarantor.
  7. Hi, New to this forum. Basically, I have defaulted on two different debts in december 2011 due to hard times and a lot of money owed to me by the student loan company. Im a student and a single mum and have been fighting for over a year to get what I was owed. During this time I had to cancel two direct debits to make ends meet. I recently got the money and have contacted them and have started paying them off at £100 a month each(since january/defaulted debt adds up to £1500 altogether) and will pay off any left over debt in April. I have checked my credit report and now have a lowly score of 508 (poor) due to these defaults. I first applied for a house in April and had a good credit score (was fair according to experian). I was just wondering if these two defaults would affect my chances of successfully getting a new house as I would like to move out my current one due to the state of the house and lack of repair since a fire occured in may. The house is covered in mold, walls are very damp, cracks appearing, and is freezing due to them not fixing the roof (was a roof fire in a row of 4 terraced). I was going to stick with the same agency to avoid paying another application fee, but according to them I need to as it's been more than 6 months so I am looking around for other agencies too. My big question is, will these defaults affect my ability to rent a house? Thanks in advance Rebrox
