Cheers email sent and hopefully this can be sorted out -
Hi Not sure where I stand with this but thought I would post before contacting head office. Our account is in my Mrs name so when the laptop started to develop a few minor faults I let it roll as they were nothing major but then more and more faults developed so I told my mrs to take it into shop for repair. She came back with a new laptop and said she had been told in the shop there was nothing they can do as they don't deal with Acer no more and if they sent it to them for repair then they would just refuse to repair it. Now I find this totally hard to believe and surely my rights here are that they should fix it or replace it. With being told this she signed up for a replacement laptop which I was told today nothing I had paid off the previous laptop counts. Whats more annoying is he said there was only 15 weeks of a 102 week deal to be paid off. Any advice where I stand on this matter appreciated

I have put in writing to the council basically my circumstances and have asked them to look into it for me. Debtline helped me with budget sheets which will arrive tomorrow which I well send to both the council and the bailiffs with the maximum offer I can afford again stating my case which I have outlined on here. I will post further if there are any updates in the meantime and thanks again for all your great advice its very much appreciated.

No problem and thanks. I'm going to get a few notes together and ring them shortly so will post back, im not holding out much hope of getting anything sorted with them but its worth a try. When I spoke to Rossendales on the phone on Friday they asked me to pay a token payment of £20 this week and then start paying the £180 at the end of the month. Is it worth paying the £20 to buy me some time to sort it out or should I just leave payment for now and carry on trying to sort it out ?

The private messaging issue was a couple of private messages saying people who were trying to help were real bailiffs trying to get information which was putting me off posting here. My next step I was going to ring the council tax office this morning and explain the situation quoting their own regulations on collecting but not sure if I would be wasting my time. To date the only conversation I have had with the bailiffs was the letter I received and then I phoned them on Friday to ask what was they expecting and they said they wanted the £1300 paid off inside 7 months maximum which leaves it at £180 a month minimum which theres no way we can afford

Im lost here whats going on , I used to use this site years ago and was an absolute legend of a place. Now its all about people private messaging and not even knowing whos genuine or not. Its a waste to the hardworking people that keep this site alive with good advice and a great service of how they give their time for genuine help.

If I speak with the council tomorrow I have seen on other threads that you can demand a meeting with someone from council tax collections to sort this out but not sure who I need to ask for . Im guessing if the council wont help and the bailiffs (who have not even been to my home yet) wont drop their demands either that a solicitor wouldn't be able to give me any kind of help in this matter to get it back to the council.

Does anybody know if theres any way I can get council to take this debt back and sort out a repayment plan with them direct as what bailiffs are asking for is impossible and there saying theres no way they will negotiate with me . I would be willing to offer attachement of earnings and also my wife suffers from severe depression and this problem is making it a while lot worse.
-
Am I right in thinking that I would have a good case of pulling this back to be a council matter if not only I agreed to have an attachment of earnings to stand as a guarantor to a payment plan put in place , but also I could claim it be pulled back as my wife is vulnerable as she suffer from major depression and has been on medication quite a few years so this is likely to cause more hardship

Ok to start off with the letters are dated and follow the heading Council Tax Notice of Issue of Liability Order. Letters came through post today 1st I have heard of the company. We are on tax credits with my wife working part time as I take care of our 3 kids. Says the balance must be paid in full within 14 days and if I cannot pay in full I must telephone them or write immediately. If I want them to consider a payment plan I must fill in the back of the letter where there is an income and outgoings form. The debt totals £1300 from the 6 different accounts of old council tax , they told me over the phone minimum payment is £180 per month.

Ive just received about 6 letters all at once this morning from Rossendales regarding unpaid council tax. We wasn't aware that the monthly payment were making was not covering any arrears so now we have an accumulated debt of £1300 As soon as I received the letters I rang Rossendales who have told me that the minimum amount they want each month is £180. Has anyone had any dealings with these people as I don't know whether its worth negotiating or writing any letters. I spoke to debtline as I was panicking as its more about the hassle they will cause and they told me to make a small offer and hide the car. I don't really want to go down this route but if that's the only option I am left with then I will. Any advice appreciated
