  1. Thanks Mariner51 for your time advising me on this case. Sorry my mistake the November thing, I meant October. I re-checked the AST, and no address appart from the one I'm living appears. The house is a flatshare, and the LL actually receives post (even if he doesn't live here, as he pays the utility bills), and he comes every now and again to collect it (but now he is MIA, so that's the problem). I think under this circumstances I will auto-send to my own address the NTQ by post obtaining the receipt so I have proof. I will also send a scanned version to his email for further proof that I have done everything in my hand to give notice in time.
  2. Thanks for your reply! This is what the contract says: AST until 31/03/2012, if I wish to continue (which I did) it became a "monthly contractual tenancy". I have to give one month notice to end it, and the notice must be given to expire on a rent payment day. SO yes you are right, I was wrong with the 12 days thing. I will write a NTQ and leave it in the property, as I don't have any other method of contact. Should that be fine? Then I assume if I want peace of mind I will need to pay full November, and wait for him to payback the deposit or start legal action. Let me know if I'm missing something!
  3. Hello, II've been living in my current flat for the past 12 months. And now, I'm moving to abroad to my home country to pursue my studies. We signed the contract the 1st of OCTOBER 2011 for a minimum period of 6 months. After that, either party has to give 1 month notice before leaving. I paid 6 weeks of deposit (1194), which appears on the contract but I dont have receipt. I've been trying to contact my landlord since the 12th of September, both via email and by phone, and he doesn't reply neither my calls or my emails. I don't have his personal address. Dodgy info: A few months back he changed his phone number, on the 12th the new phone number was on but he didn't pick the calls. After a few days this phone is constantly off and suddenly the old phone is working again. Also, he has given a different email to different tenants in the house. Now my question is, I have to leave by the end of the month, but obviously 1 month notice would mean I have to pay till the 12th of October (something I was happy to do as long as I got my deposit back). So there are two possibles outcomes: - I don't pay the 12 days of October and leave the country (could this affect my credit rating? I'll probbaly come back to the UK in one year) and he would keep my whole deposit - I pay the 12 days, and then start the messy thing of flying in and out of the country while taking court action If you have some enlightement to my situation would be really helpful. Thanks!
  4. Thanks cerberusalert for your help, I feel slightly less concerned now, tomorrow I will try to open an HSBC Passport account (special for foreigners), if I have any problem opening it I'll come back here as it would mean there's something wrong in the file to ask for further advice
  5. Hello, I'm an EEU national, last year I was studying my postgrad in the UK. By the end of it I got a job, and to get paid I opened a bank account with Barclays. It all went fine in the branch and soon I received all the documentation. Days later I tried to log in in my online account unsuccesfully, after some calls they told me the accounts were closed as I "no longer meet the requirements". I hadn't made any transaction except putting 20 pounds the day I opened it. And I tried to call them and there's no way they can disclose any further information. I've been thinking a lot about possible reasons: - My proof of address was a little bit dodgy (a letter from university, but when I opened the account I had already finished). As I was living in a rent with all expenses paid and I didn't have any further proofs. In the branch was ok but maybe when they checked it again the the central they didn't like it?? - The first time I connected to check my online accounts I was on a ferry on a trip to Spain, connected through a satellite connection. Maybe they didn't like it and saw it suspicious??? I'm really worried as it was my first account, so no possible previous records could be held, and I'm afraid I'm gonna be stuck without an account if they entered me in this CIFAS registry. I tried to check my credit reports but my history is very short and always require further proof of address which I cannot provide to see them Can someone bring me some light into it, and give me some advice on how to know if they set up a bad history in my credit report? As I said I'm not british and I don't really know what to do to know what information they hold on me.
