  1. Hi guys and gals I saw this in my local newspaper and I thought of all you! You might want to print the picture and use it for target practice! Looks like a classy outfit! http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Debt-recovery-firm-create-80-jobs-meet-rising/story-13493453-detail/story.html Definitely going to be queing up for a job there - not! 2. Hi Folks Me again, so since I originally posted things have started to become interesting at work, approximately 45% of the staff have been put under notice for redundancy, the production department and the dispatch department. They wish to get 'rid' of the dispatch all together and reduce the production department by 15% but also move from 3 shifts to 2 shifts. I guess everyone else is just waiting for their time to change. As you can imagine we are all very worried about the future. Also since then we were sent an email from our old parent company by mistake announcing the sale of our company to a trade buyer - nothing about the share being sold, I also don't believe that our company had individual shares, it was part of a much larger company. It all seems very unfair that the new people can come in and implement all these changes and remove large chunks of the business without any kind of discussion. What do you think? Disco
  3. Hi Unfortunately I do not know about either..... are these income/savings dependant? He does not talk about money but I am absolutely sure he does not claim anything apart from his pension. He receives an employment related pension, state pension and armed forces pension. Do you think that this is something that could help us to find him some assistance? I do have someone from social services visiting him next week to talk about his needs, a meeting that I will also attend as he can not cope with these things alone. Disco
  4. Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me. My father who is 91, nearly 92, is needing more and more support. He lives alone, in his own house and up until the last 2 years has been coping very well. He is a proud man - as most of his generation are, and will not ask for help. I help as much as I can (as much as he lets me) but he needs more support. My family are more than willing to help but he just won't accept it as he see's it as being a failure. My tentative conversation with him about moving into supported accomodation sent him into a real spin for nearly a month and he really deteriorated in that time - although he has now recovered. He suffers from Parkinsons, although his symptoms are not severe at the moment. He needs frequent assistance doing even the most simple of things, he is very unsteady on his feet and is now finding day to day life a real challenge. He often forgets (or claims he has already) to take his medication, he rarely washes and never has a bath or shower unless I insist he does. Simple day to day issues, such as the milkman being late send him into a real panic and I often have to rush round to calm him down ( this all sounds so much worse written down!) Is there anything we can do? I have tried to be firm with him and I do everything I can to help (although I also look after my wife who has cancer and work full time but that's no excuse). I have already contacted the local council who arranged for him to have an emergency pendant fitted, they also fitted some hand rails around his house. I am at my wits end, I can not afford to pay for someone to help him, and he just won't accept my help (it really affects his health). Is there anyone out there who is a similar position and if so what have you done? Disco
  5. Ok, I have completed a letter to send to them, which I will post tomorrow - I had to calm down a bit first! I find it incredible that they feel that it is ok to get a number in this way! a lesson to be learnt for everyone! It's not like we haven't informed them of the situation, they know what's going on. They are just trying to bully us into paying more! Everyone else seems to be dealing with things better. I had my own worries at work, and then our debt situation, but thats nothing compared with the worry my wife is going through having been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, so this kind of hassle is the last thing we need and I am trying my best to shield her from this kind of nonsense and I was doing well until the call this morning. Disco
  6. Hi Padja I wouldn't mind but we haven't called them since we got into trouble after taking advice from this brilliant site, my wife seems to remember calling them about a year ago when she needed to activate a new card, and she thinks she may have called from her parents. Disco
  7. Hey Guys :mad2:Grrrrrr I am SO mad at the moment, my inlaws have just called me to say someone has just called their home telephone number asking for me or my wife, it turns out the number was Vanquis! WTF they haven't got that number down as a contact, however turns out my wife 'may' have spoken to them using the in laws phone - are they even allowed to store that number? Now we are currently setting up a DMP with CCCS as my wife lost her job in May and we just couldn't cope - our own fault but we are willing to sort everything but need a little extra time. All our creditors have received a letter from us explaining the situation and informing them that CCCS is helping us but Vanquis just will not leave us alone, they phone day and night 5-6 times a day the first call at 8.00am and the latest was 20.59pm. I have made a token payment for this month (the first month we haven't made at least the min) but they just will not get it through their heads. What should my next step be? I don't want them calling the inlaws again as they are elderly and this kind of thing worries them which in turn worries us - but then I guess that's what Vanquis are hoping for so we make a payment. Any thoughts? Cheers Disco
  8. Hi Rachel There are about 200 employees at our particular business site at the moment, the previous owners were a very large company from europe with lots of business sites dotted all around europe. Disco
  9. All seems very confusing to me, I don't really understand what the difference is between the company and employer and why that doesn't make a difference to us employees. All I do know is that we are all worried about the future, especially as the people who have taken over have got a very similar business in their portfolio, a competitor of ours, and it would make sense to merge the two companys. Disco
  10. Ah I see, not sure of the answer though. At the moment the company itself still exists but what you mean is whether its still the same legal entity? They said at the announcement that changes would happen in the way that we work but those changes would be made over 3 years - no indication of what would change though. More food for thought, cheers Disco
  11. whats the difference between owner and employer? we have all got new bosses as of today, all new directors including the managing director Disco
  12. Thanks Postggj, I will keep you posted What happens if they do try and make changes can we stop them making changes for the worse? Got to be honest it just all feels a bit unfair that the old company just wanted to get rid quick! Disco
  13. Hi Postggj Nope no union rep . Will ask about the t & c's tomorrow... but maybe there has already been a change (pay days have been changed). Disco
  14. Hi All I am after a bit of advice, I went to work today and there was a general announcement that the business had been sold to a private consortium, we were part of a much larger company based in europe. There was an announcement late last year that said that the business was reviewing its strategic operations and we as a company were being advertised. Nothing more official has been mentioned since this initial meeting. Many of us feel like we have been 'sold down the water' by the old business, there was nothing official to inform us of the sale, as companys allowed to do this? There are about 200 people working at my place of work, all of whom are now worried about their jobs. Is there some sort of procedure that should be followed when businesses are sold and employees are transferred? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Disco
