I recently took a suit into the dry cleaners. It's only a couple of months old, and this was the first time I'd had it cleaned. After collecting it I noticed it had a black mark on the front of the jacket. I always look at stuff before taking it in to check for obvious marks, stains etc, so knew this hadn't been on it previously. I took it back, pointing out the mark, and they agreed to clean it again free of charge. On Saturday I went to collect it again, but the mark is still there. The manager of the dry cleaners said he thinks it's damage to the fabric, rather than a stain. This may be true, but the fact is that it wasn't there when I originally took the suit in. It's effectively ruined (the mark is really noticeable) and I believe they're liable so should pay for a replacement. It's been referred to their claims department, but it's clear that they're reluctant to cough up. Has anyone had a similar experience, and any idea where I stand legally? Thanks very much.
