  1. Hi. I don't mean to jump in on the back of this thread but mine is a similar issue. I had to go abroad for a bereavement. I was in the middle of moving house so to be safe I took all my valuables with me, now I can't find them I'm heartbroken as it was my wedding rings and other sentimentally stuff, I can claim on my travel insurance but the most they will give for each item is £300. My ring alone was a lot more. It's not just the money though. If I bought the flight tickets using a visa debit. Would there be any kind of claim for loss of goods? Many thanks x
  2. Sorry, sir Gilmour, I can't open your reply
  3. Hello, I can't find this subject anywhere, so I hope its ok to post it here. I have received a letter from Santander explaining that they did not specifically tell me about the Cap Margin increase, (and, that part of my mortgage was on a fixed rate) I have looked at my statement of 2008 to date. It shows: 1) Details of the early repayment charge 2)The interest rate (SVR) is 5.34% I'm very confused about what I should do (if anything), the gist of the letter is that Santander could have mislead me as the communications sent to me in 2008 may have left me unaware that I could have moved to a better deal offered by another lender. Their letter says that I would need to call them if I have any complaints, I'm slightly unsure about phoning them, as it might be a way of them putting me off making a claim,(if I'm eligible) I would appreciate any constructive advice on this please many thanks
  4. Long story, but basically, my husband divorced me in 2009 about a year after our downs syndrome child was born. (he left when the baby was 4 months old) we had been having problems for a few years, so he divorced me on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour. I was in a very bad place at the time, after having the baby and the shock of the disability, however I still had to try and fight for my childrens future at court (I have 3 children). We had 2 properties abroad, he got one and I got the other,( by no means are we rich we purchased them and added the loan amount to our existing mortgage) our aim was to help us pay off our mortgage in years to come, hoping the properties would make a profit for us, in reality we are at a loss. However, our 2 solicitors came to an agreement that I would keep the family home for 3 years, at the end I would have to take my ex off the mortgage deeds, but if i couldnt i would have to sell the property. ( I have been paying the mortgage since he left, which includes the 2 properties abroad) My ex gives me £100 per month for each child. I do not earn enough for my mortgage company to let me take the morgage on alone, therefore next year I fear i will have to sell, with maybe £20000 profit, I also will not be elidgible for a mortgage as I have so much debt. My mortgage is interest only, and unbeknown to me my ex sold the endowment (it was in his sole name). IHe also sold his property abroad at a massive loss ( yet i still owe on the mortgage) I went to the council to see if i could apply for a council house, but because I have 'assets' they wont help me. When i went back to my solicitor to query it all, she told me i got the lions share, yet my ex has no debts, but I owe my mortgage and lots of other debts. Im at the end of my tether I dont know what i can do, ad my mortgage has also increased by £120 . Could anyone please tell me if i can do anything thank you
  5. I desperately need some advice/help. I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if this thread is in th e wrong place. Recently, I went over my authorised overdraft by £40. I have 3children and I am going through a terrible divorce, so my head isnt in a good place. Ii am trying to reduce my £200 overdraft with halifax so I can close the account as it is joint with my husband. However, I noticed that once again my account had gone up to £240, I was perplexed so I looked into my account and noticed the Halifax had charged me £150 in charges. I phoned them immediately thinking it was a mistake, but no, the girl informed me that I've been charged £5 per day for every day I was over my overdraft. This is daylight robbery. I explained my situation and almost begged them to remove the charge, ( my incoming money has literally been halved) I really (stupidly) wasnt aware of the charge. The most they would give me was £35 off, she then asked for my national insurance number, she went away and came back to tell me that because I work(part time) they cant help me. I have written to their customer relations, but I suspect they will either offer me £35 off or say tough. I'm at the end of my tether I jsut dont know what to do. I dont think a loan shark would charge this much, if I dont pay do you think they'll send 'Howard' round to break my legs. Sorry for the sarcasam I think I'm losing my marbles!
