  1. I think in this situation I would do as wackyone has done, send in the V5 yourself to DVLA, but make sure you receive some sort of acknowledgement from them, or send by recorded delivery just to make sure!
  2. I had a similar occurrence, about a week after making a purchase on Amazcon.co.uk, I received and email about my verified by visa password, at the time os the password change I wasn't (a) in the UK, or (b) anywhere near a computer terminal as I was on a flight from Saudi Arabia, I immediately phoned my bank (NatWest), who cancelled my card and sent me a new one. The card I had the problem with I had only had for 1 week and the transaction to Amazon was the only transaction on the new card, so I notified Amazon of the potential problem with their security, and received a standard reply - that they take their customer security seriously - I don't think so - I now make sure my card details are not stored on Amazon.
  3. I would suggest that since you bought the car in good faith with what you assumed was 6 months road tax you take this matter up with the seller (if you can find him) as he seems to have comitted a fraud by selling you the car with a counterfeit tax disc!
  4. If the posting about parking being run by private company is correct, then the answer is to ignore it, if the parking is being run by th university then decide whether you want your degree or not nefore deciding to pay!
  5. In my experience of university (Kent, and Stirling) all have a condition that they will not award your degree, if you owe the university any money. The parking control company is most probably the university as most use their own campus security for parking control. This penalty is therfore an invoice from the university, and failure to pay it will result in your not being awarded your degree.
  6. Thanks for the information, I will leave my license until the it actually expires before renewing it, that way I should get the full 10 years (and a few extra days!)
  7. The Dft website states: You must tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) immediately of any changes to your name, address or both .. It also refers to the V5 registration document, in the same manner. So this would suggest that all these documents SHOULD be in the name you would like to be known by, after all you can use your driving license as ID. Imagin trying to open a bank account or trying to arrange credit when all you household bills are in one name and your drinving lcense is in a different one. I would suggest that you change them ASAP. The governement website also says that if you change your name you should change your passport as well. However I don't hink you are doing anything illegal if you don't make the changes, it just makes it easier for you.
  8. If ou have a bill from Sky then you probbaly have their bank accounts details as they will be on the 'Bank iro Credit' at the bottom of the bill. I don't subscribe to Sky so I can't confirm this but certainly most of the blls I have received from other companies have this information on them!
  9. Hi Has anybody had any experience with cross border payments within the EU. I have accounts in Holland with ABN Amro, and in Luxembourg with ING. Both accounts can be accessed via the internet and I can make cross border payments between the two accounts very easly as I have the IBAN and BIC numbers for the accounts and banks concerned, such payments generally have a charge of 3-5 Euros. I can make payments from either of these two accounts to my UK bank account, and again the there is a charge of 3-5 euros per transaction., and the transaction is completed within 24 hours. But when I try to make a payment to either of these accounts from my UK bank account, which is also accessible from the internet, it is not possible to set up the transfer without going into a bracnh of the bank and completing a written form, for the privelege of which I am then charged £15-£20, and it takes 3-5 working days. Again I can make a payment worldwide from either of my European bank accounts to an account anywhere in the world - in the past I have sent a payment to a friend in Singapore for some books - all I needed was the SWIFT CODE and the account number, and it cost me 5 euros, and could be completed online, and the transaction was complete within 3 days (my Singapore friend sent me an email to say he had collected the money from his bank). If I tried to make the same payment from my UK bank account, again I would have to go into a bank branch and complete a written form, and again I will be charged £15-£20 for the privelege and could take more than 1 week for the transaction to be complete. How can the UK banks justify (1) the charge of £15-£20 for the transction fee when the European bans only charge €3-€5 for the same transaction (2) having to visit a branch and complete a paper form onto which I must transcribe the account details (3) the length of time the transction takes to complete? I thnink the cross borer payments are covered by Regulation (EC) No 924/2009 - which although aimed at Euro payments should also be recognised by the UK banks!
  10. If you did a google search you can find all the details of mking BACS payments to SKY, yes its for business, but why can;t you use the same process for private customers, if you read the first line of their instructions it says to FAX in a remit with your account number.
