Help: Phillips & Coen chasing debt for my deceased mother
Simmo52 replied to Simmo52's topic in Debt Collection Agencies
Hi, thanks for your prompt reply. I advised them that there was no estate and that no will was left but they ignored it and passed it to Phillips & Coen. I do have a step-father but he was unaware of the debts also. He is now worried that they will chase him though. I'm sure there's nothing they can do but it is very worrying all the same. -
Hi, My mother passed away just before Christmas with no will and leaving no estate. My family have now discovered that she had a few debts one of which was to a catalogue company. We advised the company of her death and even sent them the certificate. They have now passed the debt to Phillips & Coen Associate Ltd who are demanding the debt is paid. Phillips & Coen want us to call them to discuss this but I am reluctant to do so as I've been warned that once they have your telephone number they will harass you continually. Can anybody help me?

Jbw group/whyte lose medway contract
Simmo52 replied to letsmakeamark's topic in Local Authority Parking and Traffic Offences
Didn't JBW sue Westminster Council a few years ago and lose too? Nothing like biting the hand that feeds you.... -
Hi, I received some help on here a little while ago regarding a bailiff visiting me for a parking ticket. Thankfully with your advice I got it quashed. However, looking at the fees I noticed they included VAT. Is this right? I looked at a website that said VAT can be charged by certain bailiffs but not others. Surely the government are raking in the VAT on these fees?? This can't be right. If the Government wants to help the vulnerable it shouldn't charge VAT on already often extortionate fees! Does anybody feel like this?

Hi, 4 years ago my partner failed to pay our council tax and didn't tell me. A liability order was issued and the bailiffs came round. Again this was all kept from me. The debt was around £1000 and they were looking a for approx £1350. They never came into the house but listed a neighbours car on their forms. She paid them £650 and they said they'd come back at the end of each month for more untill it was cleared. This they did, but unbeknown to her they were charging a fee each time. She paid £350 the first month and thought it would be £350 the next settling the account. They demanded nearly £700!! She paid it by borrowing from our neighbour as they said they would break in to take our goods. Having looked through this site it would seem that there are a lot of illegalities here. I am advised that I can apply fro a detailed assessment of their fees in the County Court. Can I do this if they were charged 4 years ago and if so what is the costs of the hearing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
