  1. They said that their fraud department would tell me what to do with it. Its been blocked now anyway so its no good to me. She asked if there was an O2 shop near to me, so I guess I will have to take it there and get a receipt for it. If anyone comes to the door I'll get photos of them and their vehicle.
  2. Just made a report to 'Action Fraud' who say that social media is to blame for the vast majority of this type of fraud. She said that because people have their birthdays on there, it is very easy for people to make credit applications. The next port of call for fraudsters it the electoral register, a small fee can get you everything you need by all accounts. With regard to the Police, I will try to get hold of them, but spent nearly 1 1/2 hours trying that last night to no avail.
  3. I have just spoken to O2 who confirmed that this is definitely fraud. They have barred the sim card and the handset. Now I just need to sort out the identity theft issue.
  4. No, no competitions. Apparently the fraud is that someone orders a mobile phone in your name and then calls to say that it was a mistake and the courier will collect it. The next day, someone comes to collect it posing as the courier and you are left with the contract (which is pay monthly) and the bill for a £600 phone. I tried to arrange for it to be collected, but got a text to the effect that DPD would collect it. I Googled the number that the text came from and there was some very suspicious activity reported from that number pertaining to all sorts of parcel collections where people didn't have, or never have had the item in the first place.
  5. No, I've been at the same address for the last 24 years. They would need to have had my date of birth wouldn't they? For a credit search?
  6. No it's not a contactless card and the bank couldn't find any trace of the 1p payment. But the searches on my credit file suggest something a bit more sinister in my opinion.
  7. Hi Today I became the victim of a mobile phone fraud. A reputable courier delivered a package to me. When I opened it, there was a new Apple iPhone and a sim card in there that I didn't order. It had been sent from E 2 Save mobile (a subsidiary company of the Carphone Warehouse) so I decided to call them to inform them of their error. The operative said his name was Mohammad and asked me for the 'customer lead' number, which I gave him from the invoice that was in the package. He then started to quiz me on personal details saying that he couldn't arrange a return unless I told him things like 'who I bank with'. Of course, I refused and he said that he was trying to help me. My answer was that he was wrong, I was trying to help him! in the end he said that he would be able to get it picked up by DPD, the company that delivered the phone in the first place. This is a company I use often and know how they work. Ok I said. Then I got a text message saying that DPD would pick the phone up between 9:00 and 17:00 tomorrow. DPD always give you a time within an hour slot. After this I got very suspicious and called my bank to let them know what had happened. They checked everything on my accounts and there was nothing untoward. Then I checked my credit file to find four searched on the date of the invoice that turned up in the package, all from communication providers. The invoice says that 1p was paid at the point of sale with a visa card. My credit cards are all with Master Card, but my debit cards are Visa.
  8. Hi Does anyone know whether the Carphone Warehouse has a rep on here or not please?
  9. Yeah this did cross my mind when I received the initial letter, but I have had dealings with Iqor before and found them to be repugnant at best so I thought I would look into it and low and behold, the debt is SB'd.
  10. Thanks guys. Andy the original post states that the amount was £39,09p! I don't really consider this to be a large amount, or was that a joke? JJ
  11. Now (17th of December) I get a letter from Iqor (dated 7th of December) saying that I have failed to come to a satisfactory arrangement with them so they are going to arrange a doorstep visit. I have printed up the letter from the library and will send it off this afternoon. I have also printed a copy of the letter to give to anyone who turns up demanding any money against this debt, which is statute barred. Should I be doing anything else? JJ
  12. Hi I have received a demand from Iqor with regard to an old Ebay debt which I had forgotten about. I sent them a prove it letter and they have replied with instructions on how to log into a blocked account and view an invoice. When I followed the instructions The amount which Iqor are demanding differs from the amount stated by Ebay. Iqor say I owe £39,09 and Ebay say it's £31,09. There is also information on the account which says that the last payment was made on 04/03/2006. My question is, does this mean that because it has been more than 6 years since any form of acknowledgement, the debt is statute barred? Also, if not, should I just pay Ebay the £31,09 and tell Iqor where to get off? Thanks in advance JJ
  13. Hi Slick The situation is this. They have waived their £30 debt fee and reduced the amount that they want me to pay by 50% providing it's paid by the end of the month. After that. it goes back to ARC for collection of the whole amount. I sent them the Judgement pointing out that this wasn't really enforceable because the judgement can be applied to all gym club contracts. Now, you have to bare in mind that the reason that we didn't complete the full twelve months was because my wife has rhumatoid arthritis, which got a lot worse while we were attending the gym. Because of this she couldn't go to the gym, but more crucially, she couldn't work as much (we're both self employed). This has placed a great financial strain on us both. Virgin Active continued to pursue her for the remainder of the contracts (hers was the primary contract, with mine as a secondary). This was done through ARC and we paid what they wanted at the time, placing more strain on our budget, but thought that this would be the end of it. Now they are saying that they want more money as it was never settled the last time. Their latest email says that they have checked with their head office and the 'letter' that i sent them (the judgement) doesn't apply to me because I didn't complete the first twelve month of the contract. It also says that if I don't pay the discounted figure by the end of this month (Monday), it will go back to ARC for collection, and if I'm not satisfied with the answer I'm to phone membership services who say that they have no authority to do anything except take payment. I'm thinking of paying them the discounted rate, which I can't really afford, and trying to get it back later. This is a bid to limit my potential losses. JJ
  14. Virgin Active are now telling me that none of the Asbourne v OFT judgement is applicable to me as I didn't complete a 12 mont contract. Any thoughts guys? JJ
  15. Thanks Guys I'll keep you posted JJ

  17. Ok. I managed to convince Virgin Active that they couldn't charge me a debt fee, and I am still in dialogue with them over the rest of it, but now I have a letter from Trevor Munn Solicitors threatening to send me court papers through Northampton if I don't pay them within ten days. They want £66 more than the figure I have so far negotiated with Virgin Active as well! I have emailed Virgin Active telling them to get ARC and Trevor Munn to back off, but is there anything else I can do? JJ

  19. Fair enough. I like it though. It has already come in handy for me. Nice to meet another Apple fan as well. So many people put so much energy into putting Apple down all of the time.
  20. These are all very valid and fair comments, but no one can see where you are unless you let them with this app. In fact, no one can unless you have an iPhone 4, or 4s. But even then, if you have agreed and don't want to be found, just turn it off. Simples!
  21. I don't know how it works, but there are numerous reports of it working very well. Have you tried the 'Find my friends' app yet. This could be very useful indeed. Microsoft can only dream about functionality like this, and what does android have to integrate with?
  22. I've been playing with my iPhone for a while today and I'm amazed at the extra functionality that this bring when coupled with the Mac enhancements.
