  1. Thanks for the advice, I'll ring SWALEC on the day of the move to give them the meter readings from my old house and ask them then if they would swap the meters for credit ones. Will post back when i know what their answer is. Oh and as far as telephone conversations go i always record them as a form of reference as i have been let down in the past by one person promising one thing and 1 week later another person saying a completely different thing. Thanks.
  2. Hello everyone, first time poster but have been lurking for many months. I need some help and advice. I am going to move home in about 3 weeks time (a council bungalow as i cant manage the stairs any more). While looking around the property i discovered that the gas and electric meters were pre pay. There was a credit card type of card with british gas written on it and an orange key device (about the size of a usb flash drive) which i assumed was for the electric meter. What i wanted to know is as i plan to contact british gas to be my dual supplier at the new property (ditching SWALEC from my old property) can i ask them to swap the meters out for standard credit meters?. I have never been in debt with a utility company and in my previous house (in fact all the property's i have lived in) there were normal credit meters, of which i paid the bill's quartely. The main reason for doing this is that i have heard some horror story's (on this forum site and others) of pre pay meters costing a lot more, sometimes up to 100% more. I am currently on incapacity benefit and Disability Living Allowance so i was thinking that i might qualify for the british gas social tarif. If someone could give me some advice on how to proceed i would be very grateful. I may even have my wires crossed about pre pay meters, i'm afraid i'm a bit of a dunce when it comes down to this. Thank you.
