    Vehicle SORN?

Good morning,Ive lost sleep over this on the weekend so Im hoping you can help me. Last July me and my partner split. As part of the settlement he said he would replace my car which was due for MOT but has way too much wrong with it to get it fixed. He took my old car to a scrap yard to be scrapped. He took log book with him, scrapped car and then the log book was sent off. In November I had a letter from DVLA saying I had to pay them £80 as the vehicle was not insured. I wrote back to them saying that the log book had been sent off and that nowhere could I find anything saying that I had to chase this up, or that it should be sent recorded delivery. I advised them the onious was on them to prove I didnt send it. I heard no more from them so assumed all done.Saturday morning I received a Requisition from them saying that I have to go to Court on 8th May and possibly face a £1000 fine!!! I phoned a legl helpline that I found on google in a panic, they said that I should just try and negotiate the fine as its unlikely I can defend this and that a solicitor will cost in the region of £700 - £800!!!! I cant afford the fine or a solictor - I am absolutly terrified!!!!!! 1) I am unable to attend Court on 8th May as I am booked to be away at a wedding2) The log book was sent off - I can possibly get some kind of record/ proof from the scrap yard - will that help3) I cant afford a solicitor - can I defend this on my own???4) If I have to pay a fine how the hell will I raise £1000???Any advice would be great as Im really stressing over this, I dont know what to do.
  2. Thanks. I live in a block of flats with buzzer entry so not easy to get in. I don't have a drive, car is parked in communal car park at the back with about 30 other cars. Thanks for the advice will contact council today and tell them ill be making reg payments to them.
  3. Please can someone help me? I left an abusive relationship last year and on doing so discovered that my ex partner had not been paying the Council Tax despite telling me he had. He left and went somewhere down south but I gave the council the last known address for him and his telephone number. They have not once attempted to contact him they just keep hassling me. I asked them if could pay them £50 a month as this is all I can afford, they kept taking ages to reply meaning this has gone noweher fast. I came home last night to a letter from them saying: Further to your recent email regarding the above Council Tax account, I must now advise that this account is being administered by Swift Credit Services and as a result all contact regarding this debt, including offers of payment, must be made with the company concerned. I have done a search and these are a baliff co. I am now terrified, especially after seeing some posts on here. Will I be able to set up a payment plan with these? I thought Baliffs couldnt get involved until it had been to court? I live alone and Im so scared. I drive an old banger of a car but I scared Ill wake up and find clamps on it. Please can someone advise me what I should do. Thank you

    Vehicle SORN?

I bought a car 2 weeks ago and it has in the window a tax disc showing that the tax is due to expire at the end of June. I just went on the Direct Gov Vechilcle check thing to see how much it will cost to re-tax it and its saying "Vehicle Status - SORN due to expire". Im now really worried as its my only car, I work 50 miles from work, and Im worried Im going to get into real trouble. What do I need to do?
  6. Hi everyone, I moved into a rented property 2 years ago on 1st May 2010. I paid the landlady £600 deposit. The tenancy has been fine and I really thought when I gave notice on the property that she would return the deposit without any problems. However, towards the end of my months notice she started getting very very awkward!! She advised that the house should be re-painted before I left and that the gardens should be mowed. I advised that any marks on the walls were down to wear and tear and I didnt feel it was my place to re-paint. I told her I would be moving out of the property on 30th April. She told me that as this was a Monday she would not be available to collect the keys and that I should leave them with a family member. I did this on Monday night and emailed her asking when I would get my deposit back. She emailed back saying she would check the house on the Wednesday (2 days later!!) and get back to me. I had an email from her advising that there will be a delay in returning my deposit as in her opinion: The two bedrooms will need re-painting as there are bits of blue tack on the walls; The house will need to be professionally cleaned as she is not happy with it The garden is over - grown (It isnt, I just havent mowed it for a few weeks because of the rain). She has since emailed me and told me that she didnt put it in a DPS but that she will now. Ive done some research and seen that she could from 6th April put it in as long as she did it within 30 days. Im a bit annoyed though: 1) She provided an inventory by post a year after I took over the house, but that was items not buildings or decoration; 2) She didnt come and do an end of tenancy check she did it 2 days later - how do I know she didnt mark the walls etc? 3) The house is now with a letting agency who have taken new photos of the house and it looks like alot of the work has been done!! Can she do this? Please help, I really dont know what to do next. I just want my bond back!!
  7. She is now saying she will deposit it this weekend!!!! Please tell me there is some light at the end of the tunnel in all this!! I dont want any more than my original deposit back ;-(
  8. She emailed me an inventory a year after I took over the tenancy but that only had objects on it (fridge, toaster, kettle etc) No inventory on decoration or the buildings was done

The depoist was never placed in a protection scheme so I cant go to them for help, but I really need this deposit back and Im really annoyed that she is now dragging her feet. Any advice???
  10. I took out a loan with Blackheath Loans approx 3 years ago for 3000 and a friend stood as guarentoor. In June of this year I started experiencing severe personal problems and I contacted Blackheath asking them if I could set up a payment plan as I could no longer pay the monthly amount, They never responded to my letters, but they phoned me at work several times (I work in an open plan office) so I asked them to stop and put all correspondence in writing. They never did. They have no summoned my gurantoor to court and are refusing to deal with me. Although we are not close friends anymore, this is my debt they should be dealing with him. I am scared that I will get a CCJ or worse that he will!!! Any adcvice???
  11. But they have sent the guarentoor a court summons and say they wont talk to me unless I pay them £300
  12. Yes, I thought it was all paid, my fault but just dont know what to do now
  13. The original loan was for 3000 and the payments were 145 per month, I missed the last two. What should I do next? Im really worried about this. I dont want a CCJ but Im scared my friend will get one
  14. I took out a loan with these a few years back and a friend of mine stood as guarentoor. Due to financial probs I defaulted in June, since then I have been trying to set up a payment plan with them but they have ignored all my letters, instead they just phone me at work (I work in an open plan office) and cant talk there. They have no sent a County Court summons to my guartentoor and are refusing to deal with me unless I pay them £300 in 7 days. I cant afford this but I dont want my friend getting into trouble, Any advice
  15. I have just noticed a thread regarding the CCA, working on that now. Thanks for the advice, I did think it best to ignore it. The letter says that if they dont hear anything they will assume I live here, that freaked me out a bit. But as you say they should at least send a decent letter.
