  1. I am shocked at Bankfodders (site team member) advice and shameless plugging of a book. The first post should be a last resort. Always try and resolve an issue directly as you could start legal proceedings to find as mentioned the above the ram could have unseated, leaving you out of pocket. I would recommend other admins to look into this member.....
  2. Moral of the story when dealing with all companies, were possible do research on the item you are buying before paying any money, and always record phone calls, it makes life a lot easier in the long run. You have nothing to lose doing this apart from a bit of time, nothing compared to the person above
  3. Aren't Sony doing a trade in? not sure how much you would get off a 40 inch TV EDIT just checked Sony's website seems to 100 off a 40 inch TV
  4. Have you called the techguys to ask for a loan laptop?
  5. I believe the whatever happens agreements are based on the specification of what you had before. Do you know what they matched it too? What was the model and specifications of yours? If the specifications don't match get the store to call their customer services team when you are in the store.
  6. It is regretable that it seems the engineer is completely two faced. However your issue is with a manager so you are one step closer to get the issue resolved. If they think you had an infestation then maybe this could be disproved by an exterminator that could you get to write a report and if its found you don't they should be paying for the report? See what the manager says now they are aware of your side of events not the two faced engineer. Also ask them to investigate how much the repair would cost? If its worth the issue being dragged on.
  7. "I had to seek legal advise and contacted trading standards and in the end I had to settle for £60 less than the full refund that was promised to us once both TV’S were in there position." If trading standards gave you that advice, that is an utter disgrace. They should have advised you that rejecting the goods as damaged they should if you request put you in the position you was before you made your transaction. You should have only incurred cost if you changed your mind. I agree they seem to be cowboys will add to blacklist.
  8. Hmmmm one of my black listed company's Asda are now owned by wall mart who seem to take life insurance out on staff. Not sure if this happens in the UK but their actions in the US are sickening. Dead Peasants google it
  9. From a common sense point of view. Its very strange that a mouse got in there but it may have been something unavoidable you can't be expected to stand guard of the machine all the time in case some mouse wants to like somewhere warm. If they advise it is misuse then ask them where in the manual does it have information about how to combat this problem? If you speak to someone from the whatever happens team someone is bound to think of the whole picture and see it was unavoidable. What happened when you spoke to whatever happens, what was discussed may we ask.
  10. Explain your situation to the the customer services that runs the agreement if they give you a no or don't even attempt to look into it further. Request that the issue is looked into by a manager or "Medic" Don't waste your time with the engineers from here on.
  11. I have seen it banded about in other curry's/pcworld threads they seem to be a an escalation route for people in unusual situations, that have higher powers to resolve matters
  12. Has this issue been raise to their "Medics"? If not get them to do it.
  13. request a full refund as you are rejecting the goods. Also a repair would cause inconvenience and thus not a suitable remedy.
  14. It normally depends how they do the replacement. If they replace it through the till and you get a new receipt you should get another year. If it replaced by Microsoft its normally from the date of purchase. However as you know SOGA will protect you for 6 years
  15. *sigh* advice like this sends chills down my spine, speak to the customer services team and register a complaint that the store are not upholding your legal rights. Eventually someone must see sense and honour your request. Good luck
  16. Can you keep us posted with this, as it's shocking they try and gag people that receive a bad service......
  17. This will be very difficult for you. Battery life estimate's are always wildly inaccurate I believe most are measured by how long it will stay on a bios screen. Your main problem here is that having the laptop since august 09 so its 9 months old. Most people would view that has accepting the item. I am not legally trained so maybe there is a legal loop hole to this
  18. Was your letter like this? I would have like to have seen the reader's face. I would add something constructive, but I find you quite offensive. Your whole approach is not going to inspire people to take time and help you.
  19. If you paid by CC speak to them as you are not in receipt of the goods you ordered. Also contact them by e-mail only and have a full record of your discussion then post on here omitting personal information, as you are only displaying your experience with them and it will be up to the reader if it puts them at a disadvantage. As long as all information is factual they don't have a leg to stand on. If you wanted to you could advise them you will contact the true recipient and advise them to make a complaint to the ICO for them sending you someone else personal information. Not sure if its 100% correct but somethings i would consider. Breaches of DPA can lead to fines which will hopefully stop the company doing this again.
  20. Wow Shocking, depending on the Malware it could take 30 mins to do all that. Also you are assuming they updated AV and windows last. What would have been cheeky if they did it first which ended up resolving the first issue. I would go in the store with someone technical and see what they do as your techie friend will not be blinded by science. The work should be at the very max 30-50 pounds. If they stick to there guns contact citizens advice and contact local press.
  21. Your interpretation of the act would make it so every retailer on every item would have to replace it. This is simply not possible when retailers make very little profit from laptops/tvs hence why they try and sell extras. If retailers are to be made to replace all items then what happens? Retailer charges more to cover this or go out of business(which would you prefer to happen)?!? I would hate to be in the OP's position but its just something that can happen. Hence why when at uni, you are strongly urge to make backups and will have computers that you can use so if they have the means to complete the dissertation. Would this cause a major inconvenience to the customer?
