  1. Best thing is the back history first My vehicle was initially brought to a small garage on the recommendation of a trusted friend who said this guy was EX Renault master technician garage in January 2011, via breakdown recovery. The symptoms, fault error codes and previous breakdown (October 2010) which were resolved by the fitting of a new (non genuine) coil pack and new genuine spark plugs as well as the re insulation of the main engine harness wiring loom. there's a weird anti theft device fitted to the top of the ECU plugs on the harness which has exposed metal ends which after nearly 10 years of vibration chafe through the insulation and cause a short. I brought all the previous work to the garages attention and they agreed to carry out fault finding work as they had the proper Renault diagnostics machine and I only had a code reader that wasn't Renault specific. The garage were unable to find a definitive fault and subsequent fix, despite having the car for approximately 6 months. During this time I made numerous calls and visits where I was assured the car was running only to be told a few days later problems had re-presented itself. Throughout this period I enquired as to the costs for labour and parts to date but the issue was always avoided, with the garage saying they would need to work it out as they had only spent a couple of hours on it cleaning corrosion, checking wiring and testing parts on a trial and error basis, but not to worry as it’s not going to be very much. Come April 2011 it became apparent to myself, irrespective of the mechanics assurances that the car was unlikely to be fixed to a reliable state in a timely manner and on delivery of the Mrs new car I instructed the garage to try to sell the vehicle, deducting their costs from the final sale price. I was told by the garage that several potential buyers came to look at the vehicle but none proceeded to purchase. In May 2011 with the MOT impending and me due to start a new job which would mean I would not be working near to the garage any more, I decided to put the car up for sale privately. I asked the garage to arrange an MOT as the car was currently running following the replacement of the coil pack (which I had told them had been replaced with a new non genuine item) the replacement of the front antiroll bar links as these were identified as a reason for failure of the MOT . In July 2011 the garage rang me to let me know the vehicle now had a valid MOT at which time I asked the garage to prepare an invoice which I would settle on visiting the garage that weekend with a potential buyer to whom I subsequently sold the vehicle on a sold as seen basis. (So cash in hand I am asking him how much I owe him after letting him know a week previously id be coming with a buyer and he says he doesn't know......which is odd as I would have thought no garage would let you take a car without paying for it!) On requesting the final bill I was told the mechanic needed to check the time he had spent and the cost of the MOT related work and a bill would follow in the post for around about £300-400. So I said OK let me know you have my details telephone number address e.t.c. All Ok... Then l I receive an overdue account notice, dated 21/02/2012, which references invoice number XXXXXX - 01/09/2011 for over £700! However this is the first written correspondence I have received since visiting their premises to sell the vehicle back in July. I have written back asking him for a full invoice breakdown rather than just one line on a letter stating "you owe me £XXX" so I can see what's being charged for as I am happy to pay for labour and the cost of a coil pack and the Mot and drop links but I don't feel I should be liable for the costs of the other parts (where as if he had just changed the coil pack and fixed the problem like he said he was going to investigate first we could have had the car back sooner. We had to hire a car for a number of months before the wife's new car was delivered. The annoying thing is if he had just said "sorry it was a bit more its £700" on the day or couple of weeks after we sold the car I wouldn't be fussed but our circumstances have changed a lot recently and I am a bit peeved that its taken him so long to contact us plus its alot higher than he stated. Personally I think they changed a huge amount of unessential parts (new engine loom lots of Sensors and relays) which did not cure the fault. For the garage to just change the coil pack for a genuine one when the mechanic said if you haven't fitted a genuine one that might be the cause when I first dropped it off. So Basically assuming the invoice is correct an they are not chasing other customers for money too... How do I proceed? Where do I stand legally?
  2. So Friday Night Parked in Croydon to go and see some friends parked in a bay sign next to the car said use Machine opposite. 1.Machine is not accepting any coins I tried about 15-20 and even asked a passer by to change some coinage just incase No coins accepted. 2. Other Cars are parked with no Tickets on Display. (photo evidence to prove) 3. PCN is attached to my car not my windscreen (I have photo evidence to prove) Thank GOD I approached my car from the front if i hadn't then i would have probably driven off with it attached to the front of the vehicle. 4. The bay is marked out as per 1032 regulations (double line start and finish) however the other end of the bay is finished with a single line (the old double line is just visible ie there is a lump of black bitumen covering it) yet again photos to prove. 5 The PCN observation time is 21:35-21:35 is that even 1 minute? I believe this has to be a minimum of 5 or 3 for a 06 offence? 6. PCN states my colour as Other my car is Blue and very obviously blue at that Had this just been a case of I am a nob and I forgot to go to the meter id fork out the £40 HOWEVER im Angry and going to appeal as I do not think this is fair any advice on how to word my reply or if you think I should appeal full stop? I have photographic evidence of everything and i can upload my PCN if necessary
  3. make sure you have the fluo jackets in the car passenger compartment (whack them under a seat or in the glovebox along with the bulb set) carry all your documentaion in the car too. you can get hte headlight adjustment carried out to EU spec but much better to just buy the stick ons and peel them off when done. rather than risk them resetting in france. Warning triangle First aid kit All mandatory in france and if you dont have all of htem alot of the coppers are pulling people over for "random" stop checks as they come off the ferry strangely enough on the uk cars were being pulled. its a hefty fine too. Search about for the stuff I found Lidl and Aldi and Maplins were great for the bits and easily 80% cheaper than halfrauds.
  4. If another garage has said it should have never had an MOT issued less than a Month ago then report the matter to VOSA too. If the dealer is getting Hooky MOTs from a mate then they could be potentially selling cars that are dangerous (if they dont go bang first)
  5. All sorted now just was mighty upset but hes been really good about it and paid for the laptop and HD to go to a computer repair shop for it to becleaned and any parts replaced at his cost. However Planner you have me concerned now though I live in a house with my own room the landlordis live in and we share bathrooms kitchens living rooms etc but I have an Assured Tenancy Agreement. Is this not correct forthe living arrangements as they stand?
  6. Having spoken to CAB, they have advised me as im under an assured tenancy agreement that I could effectively take him to the small claims court for the cost of the damage/cleaning due to his negligence in informing me that he was going to carry out the work. what this will do to our relationship though him being a live in LL though is another matter..... Ill try the softly, softly, talky, talky approach tonight and let him know how upset I am about this and ask him to foot the bill and we will see what happens.
  7. Hey guys I left my rented room last wednesday night to go home to family for a few days over a long weekend. I had left my room secure and all my washing done all neat and tidy ready hung up for this morning so I could arrive have a quick wash and put on my work clothes and head straight out the door. Seperate to this I had left a Laptop in bits on my Desk and an external hardrive on the desk too. I leave a small window open 4x6 inches to keep the room ventilated. I arrived this morning to find the bathroom completely ripped out and to find the WALL had been removed to the bathroom aswell. There was a Thick layer of breezeblock dust everywhere. I was really shocked but then when i opened my room door I found a 2-3mm thick layer of black/grey dust everywhere on the bed, on my clothes that were all neatly pressed and ready to wear this morning, all over my open laptop and H/D the place is horrible now the walls the floors the wondows it just feels really gritty and grimy. I phoned the Landlord (whos Live IN) and he siad yes the new bathroom had arrived on thursday unexpectedly and because he had 3 days off he had decided to attack the bathroom & move the door so he could fit the new bath too. When I asked about him letting me know as i would have asked him to put some masking tape around the door and put a towel under it to prevent the dust he said "oh we will in future but we just didnt think at the time but all the works is done now its just tiling and putting in the new bathroom." Im ****ed off to be honest whether I can clean the components or not is my biggest headache but either way im royally fecked off and dont know what to do as he should have told me and didnt my H/D is making some weird noises now too Any suggstions one what I can do or how I should approach this issue? I dont want to cause bad feeling in the house but hes really dropped a bollock here and im angry.
  8. I understand that Blue light vehicles may proceed through a redlight but they must treat it like a giveway sign and certainly not by flying through at high speed on a staggered cross road with limited visibility. Im interested in the fact that knowing the layout of the roundabout they did not use a siren to announce their presence and warn other road users to themselves.
  9. God Yes Start Arguing as much as possible! Never EVER accept the first offer and dont accept the 2nd either. Now is the time to start searching through the more lesser known places for cars EG high end jaguar dealerships, Owners clubs, Classic Car websites. Brief search for 2K XKRs I have carried out has show n cars anything from £15k right down to £8k+VAT keep haggling. Then once you have seen their 2nd offer then hit them with New Engine last year. Did you keep the receipt/bill of work for the engine change? Present that too them aswell I had a prestige car or similar caliber written off and the engine had been changed about a year before for a new factory engine brought my pay out up by a few £K so it should bring up yours too. Dont reject a 3rd offer though unless its really insulting as they will stop taking an interest. Keep Smiling
  10. Yeah i want to know if he got his car back too. Hope so
  11. Dont worry about not getting your money back Paypal will credit you with the money you shelled out for and will deduct the money from the other persons paypal account. If that puts them into a negative figure with paypal then so be it meaning they will be chased by DCA's and Paypal. If the Guy is saying the engineer is just trying it on then go to a few other repairers and get their opinion. Either way its gone on too long now and just contact Paypal and request a charge back.
  12. agreed benefit of hindsight you should have waited for the lorries to pass one another then overtook carefully. I know that is not what you want to hear and your feeling quite angry because it has happened and you have wirtten your car off. But if you take this to the Highways Agency they will just come back flatly with you were not driving to the conditions of the road.
  13. surely you now where this chap lives if it was me i would make the journey and have a word and if necessary take back my propertyand let them call the police if they dare
  14. Could it not be discriminatory based on the fact they carried out the searches over suspicion of theft and one of the reasons they gave for searching was he had been to the toilet a large number of times when he has a known medical problem ie the one kidney which they are aware of resulting in more frequent visits to the loo? or am i spouting rubbish
  15. Yes your making sense My slightly devious mind has just thought of something IF the New credit agreement has been mislaid then how can they proove that you owe them money?
  16. Hope that is in the transcript of the interview as if he believes there is no proof WTF are they still doing harrassing your son!
  17. check that your local office is still open i believe Welcome are being wound up and are only operating from Nottingham now after accrueing debts of in excess of £2billion!
  18. I dont also believe you can be searched by your accuser either? In this case the woman. Im off to check the stop and search proceedures for my company but i believe they are government issued i.e government guidance with a few extra items added on company headed paper. so they should be the same but you wont find that out till you get all the docs through. I believe your accuser has the right to be present however i dont think they can search you themselves. WRT the fact that she is a lady searching a man that is quite a problem in itself. Did you ask if the theft had been reported to the police whilst you were there?
  19. That counts If it was just his name at the bottom of a peice of paper they would have typed and printed the statement they were trying to pass that off as his and if you hadnt picked up that it wasnt his they would have more than likely written something in the notes of the meeting "shown copy of statement signed by defendant" seriously some companies are THAT devious!
  20. PLEASE SAY YOU GOT A COPY OF THAT STATEMENT UnFrickenbelievable!
  21. not to mention I believe failure to report a crime is a crime is it not? Last time i looked Theft was pretty serious in terms of a crime
  22. Yes you need to contact the Ebay seller first to inform them that it is faulty requesting a full refund or the cost to put it right. Give them only a Short time span to repond. as there is a time limit of 45 days! eg 72 hours If they tell you to go swing then open a dispute through ebay. I believe there is a pre filled option for "item not as described" and you can then put your case forward for the item quote the repair shops estimate of £180 to put right and that the damage is old not new. they should force a refund through paypal. Contact paypal directly though and ask them as they are really Hot on this sort of thing. and will be able to guide you better I believe you only have 45 days fomr date of purchase not from the date you received the item to do this in though so get onto it A.S.A.P!
  23. so if there is no tribunal claim EG you have realised your down £200 on wages and it was nearly 4 months since you left the company of your own volition but you didnt get paid for the last week of work?
