  1. Hi I have just spent the whole of the week going through my credit reports at experian etc . I have a total of 11 defaults for various credit cards, bank accounts etc going back years. I have been paying most of these off over the past few years with no interest to various debt collection agencies who basically leave me alone. I have learnt the power of silence, and just hang up everytime they call me to ask me to pay more money. The defaults are on my credit file, and I am happy to do the 6 year bad credit file time . My first default expires in December 2010, who hoo. I just wondered as the date of the default expiry gets closer, whether it is worth contacting the debt collection agency and offering to pay off a partial sum so that this debt would then show as satisfied. At the rate I am going, I will have my own walking stick, before I clear the balances. As I understand even when the defaults start dropping off the balances remain until cleared. Any advice appreciated.
  2. Hi I am looking through a copy of my credit report from Experian. I am going to need to input the data into an excel spreadsheet to try to sort it out, as its quite a nightmare.:? I have a query regarding timing that I haven't been able to find the answer for on any of the forums. Some of my defaults will be start to fall off my credit file next year, as the 6 year time date willl be out. It states on the credit report, that a defaulted account is removed from your report after six years, whether or not you have paid the debt off in full. If you have paid some of the debt off, the balance should show how much you still owe. So I presume this means, that my credit ratings will not improve, even though the default will be expired until the debt is repaid in full? Is this correct? So I shouldn't get too excited about the defaults dropping off, as it's not going to improve my credit report. Some of the defaults have been passed to DCA and I am paying some of these on affordable monthly installements. If prior to the default period expiring, I tried to negotiate a partial settlement, as a full and final settlement, what would happen to the default information on the file. What would happen to my credit report?Would it hold the payment information for a further 6 years? Much obliged in advance for any assistance
