  1. I tried to tell them where he lives but she wouldn’t take any details about him. The council just told me to go through rossendales. I know they are just doing their job, but it seems unfair that they won’t even contact him regarding the debt, even though he earns 5 times what I do.
  2. Hello, Today I have received 2 letters addressed to me and my ex from rossendales regarding a council tax debt from 2008/9. Liability order dated 2009. Total £950 (inc £75 charge for each debt) I had no idea this debt existed, not making excuses but it was from a very bad time in my life where I was subject to domestic and financial abuse from my ex. He has had no part in my life and I have an injunction against him so to see his name on a letter made me feel sick. I phoned rossendales and after much arguing and discussion, I was bullied into paying £80 a month. I can’t really afford it but do understand that I am liable for the debt so need to pay. They said on the phone that they will NOT chase my ex partner for the debt, because my name is listed first and they cannot chase both debtors. I realise that I am liable for all of the debt and not just half, but seriously? How is it anywhere near fair that they are not even going to try to contact him to pay the debt. They also refused to take his name off any correspondence to me (just to add insult to injury!). Are they correct in what they say? That they CANNOT chase desperate debtors?
  3. Just an update on this- I have cleared the debt with the hay company, I paid it to their account directly even though they have not engaged in polite conversation with me. I am receiving numerous emails and text messages and calls from guard rec initially and now ‘Are you owed money’ which is the same company I believe. They continue to tell me that I owe nearly £600. I have engaged in writing twice telling them they need to contact the hay company as I have paid the debt. They ignored me both times and continue to virtually harass me. I block the number/email address and it comes from another next time. Not sure what to do, it’s really stressful to think they are still on my case so to speak.
  4. They are still saying I owe another £245 plus £225 in the fees they have paid guard rec, guard recs collection fees plus late payment interest! What should my next step be in dealing with the remainder of the debt? I don't believe I owe the £245 and they seem unwilling to provide me with the original invoice for said amount.
  5. Thanks. Yesterday I paid the £200 Today I have received an email from the hay company saying that Guard recs fees are legal and that I should contact guard rec directly so that I am not charged any more from them. They also said that they are forwarding the payment on to guard rec. What the actual?! I don't understand why they are being so damn unreasonable!!
  6. Hi, Thanks for all the advice so far. I sent a letter to the hay company (and emailed it too) stating everything advised above. They have not responded and I've also had no more contact from GuardRec. What do I do now? I do have the hay companies bank details, shall I pay the amount I believe I owe (£200) and write another letter saying I have made the payment and ask again for the original invoices for the other debt?
  7. So as a debt collection company and not bailiffs, they won't turn up at my door or escalate in any way? What do I do if the feed company will not correspond with me?
  8. Thank you for the replies. I contacted the feed company and they have forwarded the email to the debt collection company (guard rec)and told the debt collectors they won't deal with me directly. Guard rec have said to me that the fees are collection fees. I have told guard rec that I want to see the original invoices, they sent one that the hay company had provided which lists 3 separate orders, 2 of which I paid cash for as I remember doing! The third I believe is a genuine oversight on my account (£200) I am willing to pay the £200 off but not the rest. They haven't provided the original invoice, it looks like they just put one together for the amount they think I owe! What do I do? I'm scared that if I don't correspond with guard rec I will end up with a ccj or they will turn up at my door?!
  9. Last week I received a voicemail from a man saying he was from guard rec and that I owed money to a hay and feed supplier. I emailed the company to clarify and got no response today have received an email saying that I owe £669!! I have never ordered more than £200 worth of goods and the last order was summer 2016 as I sold my horses after that. I can't remember if I paid that bill but it seems most likely that I didn't - which would have been an oversight I have received absolutely NO correspondence from the feed company reminding me to pay etc, I moved house in march but had redirection on until last month and they have my phone number and email too! Surely there can't legally be £400 worth of charges added on?! I have emailed the debt company saying I will only deal in writing and not over the phone (as they requested) and I have asked for a full breakdown of charges etc. What else can I do? I'm so desperately trying to get on top of other finances, And now this. I'm in such a mess
  10. Thanks. I will write to them all on Monday. I have one late payment on my credit file (Capital one) but everything else is up to date other than a settled default which is about to come off my file. I have requested a new card from my bank, will that not suffice in stopping them taking a card payment? I know I only have myself to blame, but safetynet didn't help things, 2 months ago I had a limit of £700, I maxed it out and was late paying, I logged on a few weeks later to see the huge interest added and that they had upped my limit to £1100. Certainly don't help things
  11. Thankyou I will go and have a read. Luckily my husband pays the mortgage and council tax so at least that isn't a concern. Income wise, I earn £110 a week, which in reality is about £80 as I have to pay fuel costs. I also get carers allowance for caring for my disabled son and also DLA HRC LRM for him too. I haven't informed these companies of my financial problems. To be honest I've only really just admitted to myself that there is a problem today as safetynet made a card withdrawal and cleared my account this morning.. .I guess you could say it is a kick up the bum to sort stuff out.
  12. I'm not really sure where to start but I've made some huge mistakes and have got myself into quite a bit of debt. I stupidly took out a payday loan/credit account with safetynet credit- that's where the problem started. I took it out when I wasn't working and each month they upped the limit until I couldn't afford to pay it back each month. So now I owe the £1000 + the interest is adding up. I also have a loan of £500 with pfp which I am paying back at £50 a month. 2 credit cards with capital one with a total of £1000 which I am behind with one payment. 2 store cards with very and littlewoods which have a total of £900 on them- I'm up to date with those payments. I'm somehow managing to just about keep my head above water but each month it gets harder. I've thought about a dmp but I'm worried that they will default me and I will have to wait years for them to go off my credit file - I know this might sound silly given my current situation but believe it or not, up until last year I was relatively debt free, had spent years putting my life right and getting defaults removed etc. I just don't know when it will end, I have 3 children, one who is disabled and Every month with bills on top of the debts are crippling me. I don't know what I'm asking for really. Just had to write down my problems somewhere.
  13. Thanks, I will do that. The default date on my credit fileis dated 2nd feb 2013 so it is recent.
  14. No I did not receive any default letters, the only thing I got was a statement of payment history and a covering letter saying "this is not a demand for payment". I wasn't making any payments towards the debt at that point.
  15. Hi, not sure if this is the right area to post in... 5 years ago I took out a loan through provident, to cut a long story short I was in a lot of debt... The last 3 years I have been working to pay off all my debt, I moved house several times and informed provident each time. My balance outstanding with them was £75. They got in touch in march this year asking me to pay and I paid the amount in full. I never received a demand for payment until they phoned me to collect payment. I have just checked my credit score and seen that they have put a default on my account in feb this year. I am really gutted about it as I am 4 months away from being debt free and less than a year away from having my last default removed from my credit file. Is there anything I can do to get it removed? I feel it is unfair as yes they sent 'statement' letters but no demand for payment and no mention of default and I paid as soon as they phoned and demanded payment.
  16. Thank you for all your help. The council today agreed to stop all action against me and to pursue my ex partner for the money. If that fails then they have requested the case is returned to them and they will agree to a reasonable repayment amount with themselves. I can't describe how relieved I am!
  17. My ex is not paying anything, they have never made an attempt to get money from him despite me giving them his phone number and address. My disabled son is 5 years old and is severely autistic and has learning difficulties. Can anyone tell me if the levy is still valid? It is from September 2011 and I have since moved house. I will get on with writing a complaint now.
  18. I should add this is in the name of my ex too who they have made no attempt to chase for the money, despite him working!
  19. I have had a reply from bristow... I will copy and paste below- I did request an arrangement of £35 a month in my original email to them. We acknowledge receipt of your recent email, the contents of which have been duly noted. Further to your recent enquiry, please find enclosed a statement of your account as requested. We note from our previous email we requested a proposal of payment to be included with the documentary evidence supplied however this has not been included with the information provided. Whilst we have considered the documents provided and regret to advise that we are unable to enter into any further temporary arrangements as you are no longer in receipt of Income Support. However we are prepared to consider a permanent arrangement and therefore require the following payments: £138.31 required by 15/01/2013 followed by 2 monthly payments of £137.00 If you fail to make payment of any of the instalments detailed above, the agreement will be cancelled and the full sum will become due and payable, further recovery action will be taken against you. Yours faithfully, I am in receipt of maternity allowance which is a benefit, yet they are unwilling to accept that. What do I do now?
  20. The things levied upon were a tv, microwave, chair... I'm not sure what else but it was nothing of great value and I no longer have the items that were levied (they were old so have been replaced) I'm still awaiting a breakdown of charges and remaining balance from bristow, and I tried ringing the council but they wouldn't discuss it as the person I need to deal with is away until today, but I have already sent him an email as he was helpful last time so hopefully he will get back to me soon.
  21. Sorry, I should have been more clear in my first post. The debt is 6 years old and I am now living in a totally different area- have been for 5 years (as an aside, b&s arent aware I have moved house again, im nervous to tell them but I suppose I will have to). Last year the local authority that I owe the debt to, refused to let me deal/pay them directly. They have 1 liability order against me as far as I am aware, i am not sure of the date of this but it was for an address the other side of the country from which i moved from 5 years ago. The breakdown of costs provided to me as of may 2012 was: Attendance on 21/09/11 Council tax & court costs £582.31 Attendance to levy fee £24.50 Levy fee £44.00 Walking possession fee £12.00 Redemption of goods fee £24.50 Total £687.31 Minus 7 payments of £35 = £245 New total £442.31 They then added £180 for a visit to my house Since then I have paid 5 x £35 = £175 Unfortunately I did let them into my house (not this address if it makes any difference), the bailiff turned up when i was poorly, and more or less bullied his way in (which i gave in as my disabled son was getting distressed).
  22. 6 months ago I made an arrangement with these bailiffs to pay a set amount monthly. Up until a month ago I was keeping to the agreement, I missed the last payment as my newborn baby was seriously ill in hospital and I just totally forgot to pay. I have emailed them and they informed me that they are willing to set up a new agreement at the same amount (they told me that the last agreement was temporary- news to me!) but anyway, they are asking for proof of income support, I no longer get income support but am receiving maternity allowance at the moment. If I tell them that I am no longer receiving income support I am afraid that they will demand payment in full or not offer the agreement at the amount it is now (it's the maximum I can afford) Also the form is asking for my landlords details, do I have to give these? I have asked for a breakdown of costs as 6 months ago I only had about £100 to pay but they added hundreds on in fees. May be worth noting that the only way they gave me a payment agreement last time was because I contacted the council involved and they stopped the bailiff action. Any advice welcome
  23. Have just had a call giving me the number for the vulnerable persons dept? at Eon, phoned them and they were fantastic, have stopped all further action and set up a payment plan. MORE than helpful, maybe their main collections dept should take a leaf out of their book!
  24. I am in debt to eon for both gas and electricity. A while back I spoke to them and they applied for fuel direct payments from my benefits. Today a rep for them turned up and I told him I thought the payments were being made via fuel direct, he phoned the office and they say they applied but didnt hear back from the benefit office. I move out in 3 weeks, his manager said that he is still to go ahead and fit the meter but he didnt today due to the weather, he said he will be back monday if the weather is better. Neither him or me can see the point in the meter being fitted when I move out so soon. As he advised I contacted my benefit office and applied for them to pay eon direct, which they are processing, I also made a payment on the account. Eon office are saying there is nothing I can do to stop it being fitted, I have told them that whatever they would reclaim via the meter I will pay by card instead, they said "it doesnt work like that". Is there any way I can stop it being fitted? (meter is outside property so easy access for them). Also, If it is fitted, will they charge my LL when she requests it be returned to a normal meter (which she will as soon as I move out) as I will no doubt have to pay this fee to my LL. Thanks
  25. Thanks for the reply, maybe a silly question but with the debt the council is owed to being the other side of the country as I have moved, do I still contact my local mp?
