  1. Hi Most of my creditors have accepted a reduced payment plan except Barclaycard. I've set up a standing order with them. Now they are saying that they wanted a larger first standing order payment which will then be reduced by £12 each month after that, to set "the deal" up. I've spoken to at least 3 advisers but haven't gotten anywhere. They seem to keep raising the bar all the time. I've now been told to ring back before Xmas to set the deal up. Do I go along with this and try and pay the higher amount to get on the lower repayment plan or will they just raise the bar again? They are still putting interest onto my account and they said this will continue until I get myself on to the 'plan'. They are pushing me further into debt. Any advice appreciated.
  2. Yes, thank you I will write to them. Thought they'd been quiet. They've reared their ugly heads again.
  3. Hi I've set up a s/o to pay a credit card debt off without Mercer's involvement. The first payment must have gone through as they are contantly ringing me, probably for more money. The money I'm giving them each month is a good amount. I don't want to get out of paying my debt off either. The problem is they are now texting my landline. If I'm not in it will keep ringing every few hours until I listen to the message. It can ring at 11 pm so how can I stop them doing this? I cannot afford to give them anymore. If I write to Barclays they just text me to say Mercers are dealing with it. Thanks for any advice.
  4. Thanks - I do want to pay the debt off but will think about CCA them if they get nasty. Regards.
  5. :?:Hi Can some kind soul point me in the right direction? My credit card debt has been passed to Mercers. I have spoken twice to them on the phone (never again!). We agreed a mutual sum each month to pay this debt off. Unfortunately, they requested my bank details for a DD. I refused so it became stalemate. I wrote to them to ask for their details so that I could set up a s/o. I didn't realise at the time I could do it without their permission. Before I heard from them I gained more knowledge from you guys so I went ahead and set up a s/o. They've now replied to my letter saying that I need to pay £x amount to bring my outstanding balance up to date. My s/o payment doesn't start until next week so how should I reply to their letter? Kind regards......

  7. Hi I put my account number on as well so I'm not sure what they want especially when it was worded 'if known' it makes it sound as though it's not really that important.
  8. Hi A little advice needed! I've just sent my standing order form to my bank to pay off a debt every month. They've emailed me back because I haven't put any payment reference number on it. On the form it does say (if known). I've supplied the sort code and the account number which I found on the back of my credit card statement. Where will I find the reference number. Thanks.
  9. No I don't bank with them but thanks for letting me know.
  10. Thanks I've found the details I want now.
  11. Someone has previously said that sending a cheque isn't a good idea but if I use internet banking I will have to give them my card details, so what's the difference? Also, if a set up a s/o how can I do that without Barclay's giving me their details? Sorry for being slow but I'm new to this. Regards.
  12. I've thought about internet banking but you usually have to use a debit card. I've just got an ordinary switch card. I think I will just try to set up a standing order. Cheers.
  13. My credit card debt has been passed to Mercers. I've told them how much I can pay and that I will pay by s/o (they wanted a direct debit but I've refused). As I've not heard fom them regarding my letter to pay by s/o I still want to send a cheque to them which I've been doing for the past 2 months. Who do I send it too Barclays or Mercers?
  14. Thanks everyone I really do appreciate it. The good thing is you make me laugh with all your witticisms!
  15. The debt is for £2,700. I will have to check when I first got the card. The thing what is frustrating is that they will get a lot more from me now than £1 later on. I've been paying £47 for the past few months.
  16. Hi I am in debt with MBNA (credit card). I have offered to pay them a certain amount of money each month. I have telephoned twice now to speak to them. The last time they wanted a pound there and then. I told them I do not give my account details over the telephone and asked if I could send a cheque. The advisor agreed and he went through my income and expenditure again. I had already done this previously with another advisor. I have also sent a copy of my incomings and outgoings. He said he didn't think this would be a problem and that my offer would probably be ok. I've now recieved a letter saying if I don't ring in the next 7 days with a repayment plan they they could ask my employer to deduct the debt from my wages. I do not want my employer involved in all of this. I had previously offered £45 and the advisor said he'd worked it out that I need to give them £42! I don't know what else I can do, as I've said I have written to them, supplied my incomings and outgoings and spoke to them twice now. Is there anything else I can do? I feel as though they are stalling me. If I ring them again we will be going through the same things again. Thank you.
  17. Thanks everyone - you are all keeping my chin up!
  18. Thanks I will write first - I'm going to be a bit more pro-active. It's not as though I'm refusing to pay or anything as I want to pay debt off.
  19. Just a thought - instead of asking Mercers for their bank details can I just go ahead and do it? Will the neccessary information I require be on the Barclaycard credit card statments I get every month? I used to pay my credit card bill by cheque every month. I would rather Mercers not know what I was doing because they will probably reject my offer of paying by s/o. Thanks
  20. Thanks for your advice everyone. I hate phoning them because I'm sure they try to bamboozle you so will write to them in future. Cheers.
