  1. Hi, I'm new here, came by this place when searching for help so hopefully someone here can help me! Basically I applied for a promotion at work in December last year, and then was told in January that I hadn't got it and that the male member of staff who had also applied had beed given the job. I was very supprised by this, as I have more experience, more qualifications and I perform better at work. I have questioned this numerous times with my manager and area manager and they have both said that there was no difference in our application forms or interviews so they gave it him because wasn't as strict the staff. I asked how there could be no difference between our applications when I had 3 management qualifications and he had none, and also I have been a lot more pro-active at work, training the staff and maintaining health and safety, again where he wasn't, these questions just get shrugged off. Last week however on speaking to my manager (who has recently stepped down) again on the matter she informed me that the area manager had been adament that the male member of staff should get the job, and that was why it was strung out for so long as to informing who had got the job. When searching about legal action though it says that it must be done within 3 months, however I have only just been made aware of what actually happened, and to make matters worse, the (now ex)manager has said that she shouldn't have told me and asked me not to tell anyone that she had because she doesn't want to get involved, so I now feel like my hands are tied. I want to take further action on this but don't know how to go about it, or if I've left it too late. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
