  1. Dear all, I am looking for help with my situation. I took out a student loan in 1997 which is still unpaid. In the years after leaving Uni I would defer repayments as I was doing crappy jobs and never earning enough to start paying back. I have been living and working in Spain mostly over the last 15 years and forgot about the unpaid student loan letters sent to my Mother's house over the years. I received one from ERUDIO recently now that I am back in the UK and it said it was a notice of a sum of arrears and that I am behind with repayments. I understand that the UK government sold the student loans in 2013 to private companies like ERUDIO who are now chasing repayment. I was told because it is now over 6 years since it was sold I don't have to pay it back. I am not sure if this is correct or not. However, I was also informed that if I contacted ERUDIO asking for them to prove they own the debt by showing me the original deed, that they would not be able to do so thereby failing to prove I owe them anything. I am a little unsure on what I can do here and would greatly appreciate any advice or information that might help . Thanks in advance Eamonn
  2. Dear all I claimed succesfully against hsbc in sep/oct 2006 and reclaimed my overdraft charges. fantastic. and i did it with the help of this forum. however, i have become a bit daft in the last 18 months. alas i am now in debt again to the tune of nearly 2000 quid.... i had an agreed overdraft of 1500 with hsbc but i became careless somewhere along the line and some withdrawals brought me close to the limit and then some charges bumped me over. as i say im nearly at 2000 thanks to the hsbcs charges. to make things more difficult im living and working in spain (earning peanuts by the way) hsbc have now closed the overdraft and want repayment, i called them to over 20 euros a week but they said not enough. i feel stupid because ive forgot what i need to do. but have things changed since 2006? im asking myself if i can reclaim the charges again. im going to reread all the faqs and news on the site over the next couple of days to prepare myself but any advice at all would be appreciated. Many thanks Ray
  3. Hi Michael, Thanks for the response, i will definetely be reading everything more thoroughly from now on. As you said, manual intervention is all automated anyway, do you mean that it should be noted on the statements i will recieve ? im a little worried about this , that it could come back to haunt me in court if it came to that... i cant help thinking i need to request this to cover myself... thanks again Eamonn
  4. Dear all, Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but i have searched the forum for the last hour or so and cant find out for sure, any help would be appreciated. I recently called the hsbc and requested over the phone a list of any penalty charges on my account over the past 6 years, today i received a letter from them stating that it would cost £35 an hour for them to do this or alternatively i could request statements for the past 6 years without a charge. I called them back to request the statements from the last 6 years and was eventually told that there would be a maximum charge for this of £10 which i agreed to, they agreed to send out today statements from may 2000 - today. I was happy with this but then i noticed the DPA templates letter which includes the paragraph requesting information about any manual intervention on my account - i didnt request this on the telephone conversation... Will i need to request this by letter or shall i just call them back and request details of any manual intervention ? Thanks Eamonn
