  3. fully admit to being terrible with my finances, my only defence is that ive been in employment constantly since leaving full time education so ive never come up to short. I took out a replacement loan 2 years ago to pay off a £2900 loan i took out a £4000 loan over 3 years My question is as im in the forces full time am i entitled to any of my loan protection back?? I have had loan protection ever since the first loan back in 2001 and never missed a single payment ever. I also seem to recall a lady in the Glasgow branch of h.s.b.c telling me once that i shouldnt be paying loan protection being full time in the forces?? Any light on the matter from you intellectuals is much appreciated
  4. Thank you all very much for the advice i will follow the light/link
  5. Thanks lamma, pedross and David, I have no idea as to the ritual, but i did hear something along the lines of 14 days, however......................... I purchased the car 8 days before the offense (new car bad luck) that in mind Dvid how do you think i would fare, sending them the letter worded as you mentioned? Thank you very much for answering
  6. Thanks pete. and theres no need to thank me. i love these green and pleasent lands as much as everyone thats all the motivation i need. As a marine im under the royal navy and the unit pay office isnt that most helpful at the best of times, but like i said when i went in for something unrelated a year or so again i remember someone commenting on it being mis-sold, but that was before id heard of the macca that is C.A.G Thats the reason i was enquiring. Thanks for answering

  8. oh and its my own personal car registered to my current address not a company or hire car
  9. Green and mean clearly a parking warden. dont you ever get tired of being hated?? Ever think perhaps about getting a worthwhile job??
  10. sounds like a recipe for lot more parking 'ahem' attendent in accident and emergency to me
  11. Quick one for the extremely helpful boffins on here. I recieved a letter on the 14th of august informing me that i had failed to adhere to the speed limit on .... road on the 13th of may. The speed limit was 30 im accused of 40. i cant remember even being on the road in question and i have not seen any visible evidence (a photo etc) I must have been speeding for that i hold my hands up. But ive had a clean license for 8 years now and im pretty upset that its going to be ruined by a moment of 'madness' Im pretty sure it was by a mobile unit Anything i can do? Thanks very much for any sensible answers
  12. totally agree, by specialists i mean independent specialists. in my experience you get the best of both worlds and im fully aware that the 'good garage scheme' is an out and out con. its just my experience, i dont trust independents and i trust franchises even less.
  13. isnt that the point of the original thread? as the guy was questioning wether it would be cheaper to use mobile instead of home broadband. so clearly he has the choice. isnt it frustrating when people rant irreverently
  14. WHOA am i the only one who has a gripe here? avoid all usb dongles if at all possible. certainly dont get rid of perfectly good broadband within your home. ALL usb mobile internet is an absolute nightmare in terms of service and operation. anyone saying otherwise has intrest in those companys. end of story. ive had 3g and vodaphone. you normally get 3gb to use monthly which is next to nothing unless you check emails and thats it. i and most other people ive spoken to on various forums experience the same peak performance in the first few weeks which tails off to a dire weak and slow service after that even when used in exactly the same location as before. then you'll get your bill which will be at least 3 times what you expected it to be. and the break down will be vague. you'll have to go through the ridiculous customer service epic, to get information on what has cost so much. of course thats when the usb mobile is working, actually gets service, isnt broken and assuming you havnt stamped on it in a fit of rage. please please please keep your home broadband, its a saving in the long run, you get absolutly nothing for free especially in the world of mobile internet providers.
  15. totally agree, if theres 2000 pounds worth of wear amongst that lot you must be using ferrari parts. im an amatuer but those are all things you can fix yourself. get a haynes manual, look on youtube belive it or not there are alot of instructional videos there.
  16. by the very nature of the trade, there has to be a level of advantage taking. perhaps you are very very exceptional, and it was not meant as a personal attack, but come on, on a consumer rights website your trying to defend an industry that time and time again rips people off. perhaps you can explain to me exactly how a used car salesman makes his living, if not from selling cars for more than they were purchased for and are worth at market value.
  17. mate i have a friend of a friend who worked for the same (i suspect) green and yellow logo'd clutch fitting franchise who told me they regularly, rub grease onto a random engine part, ask the unwitting customer to come and have a look at the affected part, then if the unfortunate individual hasnt the experience or the knowledge to smell a [problem] they tell them its knackered usually with some feigned sympathy, then tell them they have the part in stock and can fix it for a reduced fee. they then would simply clean the area, go have a coffee and a smoke and charge the owner a few hundred quid. never ever ever ever use franchise except maybe for tires. always use specialist garages.
  18. RUBBISH. mate if you are seriously trying to sell used car salesmen as upstanding struggling consumer heros your barking up the wrong tree.
  19. only ever use specialists, i dont care whose nose i put out of joint here they are the only way forward. they cost more but atleast they arnt usually sum arse scratching and chin rubbing grease monkey outfit. in my opinion and experience if a garage looks like ****e it usually is
  20. alternatively dont buy french cars. they arnt cliched for nothing.
  21. just as an item of intrest and i appreciate this is a bmw related thread, but i recently purchased a vw golf 1.9 gt tdi with 62.000 on the clock. within 200 miles the turbo was high pithced like a police siren and there was 'white' smoke on start up, indicating an oil leak which is then burnt off on ignition. i dont know how these garages know when a car is going to go, but if they spent half the energy diagnosing and sorting problems as they do covering them up and flogging dead horse im sure they'd be alot better off. avoid bmw 3 series post 01 and avoid mk4 golfs every forum or both these cars are packed with disgruntled customers who bought into the idea of quality of these german 'tanks'. its simply not true that these are well built cars anymore they are living on hard won reputations both makes arnt anywhere near as reliable or easy to fix as fords, vauxhalls or any of the japanese cars. avoid at all costs unless you want an experience similer to driving lots of hired or courtesy cars if lucky, whilst simultaneously throwing wads of twenty pound notes into the slipstream.
  22. what faults you will have to be more specific, a dying turbo charger or cracked head obviously has more lasting implications than a bent track rod for instance. it sounds like the garage sold you a 'friday afternoon' produced car but seem to be accomodating you well thus far in my opinion. i would hold my ground. at the end of the day they can only fix so many problems before the car becomes more reliable than a new one!! at least the parts are new!! hold out get the repairs and keep the car.
  23. pleeeeeaaaase shell out the extra and go to an audi or vw specialist. i dont care what anyone one says they are the only ones worth bothering with as they are used to dealing with customers who know more than how to kick the tires.
  24. id be really intrested to see how this works out as i got mugged off with a ropey car, having spent my entire 6 month bonus on it from service over seas. it *****s me off how these cowboys roll around ripping people off and getting away with it everytime because there is no kind of licensing or regulation body for buying used cars. no if i did go round and did break, the fraudster who sold me my cars legs, as i foolishly suggested on the phone, people would take alot more intrest.
