  1. I am currently taking a sabattical from work. It is not something my company routinely offers, but i requested 9 months special leave and was granted it, on the basis that we had just completed a major project and there was little on the forward orders book. During my sabattical i took the opportunity to travel - i do not have a mortgage and it made sense to get away for a bit and buy a house when i return to the UK. Now, however, i find that i would like to settle down in New Zealand (on a working visa) for a year. I find i have very little interest in returning to my previous job or company. What are the implications of this? I imagine that the company will not make me work my notice period as i have been away for several months already, with several more to go on my sabattical. Originally i wanted a secure job to return to in the uncertain economic climate, but with the potential of a job abroad, i no longer want to return. How should i approach this situation? Obviously the company cannot make me return to the UK, but is it as simple as submitting a letter of resignation? Does the company have any come-back on me?
