  1. Uber Bump! Sorry for the large Bump. I managed to borrow rent money and had no problems with home. since then, i have been lazy and not done anything about this money. But i figure, nothing ventured nothing gained. So i want to try and push Abbey for some answers. What would be my first course of action? Phone them and ask for proof of contact? write to them? Thanks guys. (Ps, if i do get this money back. I will def be donating to this site, actually i am going to donate anyway.)
  2. Orange will not drop the £1.50 charge, I see alot of companies are trying to stop paper bills in favour of online biling. This saves them money on paper, plus helps a little towards the enviroment. In my opinion, i think its a good idea to get away from paper.
  3. some nice tips there peps! I usually know how much an item costs before i venture into store. If i am looking for a discount, i will take cash with me. One pocket will have the amount i want to buy the item for. And the other pocket will have loose fiver's. I try to visit the store at quite times (More time to chat to the staff) and also late in the day, when they are more likely to be tired and home time is around the corner. always keep it freindly and non threatning in anyway. Ask how there day was, and just general chit hat. Then tell them how much you like the item, and that you only have X amount of cash (while counting it out) Usually, this works for me. If they want to haggle you can say your not to sure if you have any other cash on you and riffle through your pockets and pull out 1 or 2 fivers. 9 times out of 10. This works for me, Dont be afraid to haggle.
  4. welcome to the boards. I have been coming here on and off for ages now. Great place for information. Its all here, just need to go find it. And dont worry about bank charges, they will be whisking their way back to you
  5. I did, i was nicely asked to leave the bank! i am usually such a placid person, but this made my blood boil. after speaking to a few people, this seems standard procedure, i find this highly Un-Efficle (SP?) and believe there should be some law on this somewhere. The fact is i am £790.00 out of pocket, if they told me the debt was still active years ago, i would of made a payment plan, i cannot aford to loose this money, as i said its rent. I don't know what to do, i know i am in for a long fight. Thanks for all your help guys. Do you know where i go from here?
  6. Just got bank from the Abbey in chiswick. They have told me there is nothing than can do to help me and want me to call the collections team. Story so far......... As i said above it appears they have taken the £790 from my savings account as they have had no contact from me in some time (even though my address details are correct with them) If they were to contact me re the debt, i would of been happy to make a payment plan, however by them taking this money i will be falling behind on my rent, which could leed to eveiction. I am desperate to get this cash back into my account and then work out a payment plan for the debt. They have not contacted me in years about this debt and i have no given any auth for monies to be taken. I really dont know what to do. Any help would be great, thanks
  7. Hello, I have just spoken with the collections team who advised me that it is in fact to do with the old account i have. She tells me that they have been writting to me foe X amount of years (The account where this debt is from i have never changed the address) but i always kept updating my savings account with my new address. The agent advised me to called their security credit team on 01296 748 980. I will call them at 9 when they open, what can i say to them? are they allowed to withdraw money from my savings account? does this mean the debt is back on? *Further Update* called and spoke with the security credit people (Debt Agency) they have no record!, called back collections, who advised me they have been sending letters to my new address (Funny i recd my statments but nothing else) and that the debt has been passed. how has this taken so long?
  8. Thanks for replying so fast. I will be calling the collections team at 8am, and see what they are saying. Thanks
  9. Heya, hope you can help. I have an old abbey savings account (I had this since I was 14) for a few years i was having wages paid into that account, but in 2005 i opened a basic account for my wages to go into, so the savings account just sat there with no regular money going in, until about a month ago then I was owed some money, and 2.5k was deposited there, over the last 3-4 weeks I have been withdrawing money as needed. Wednesday just gone there was £797.12 left in my account. I go into town this morning to pull out some money and £790.00 was missing. I called Abbey customer services to find out what had happened and was advised their collections dept had taken the money on the 1st of June, when I asked why? he advised it may be something to do with an overdraft or Abbey debt (I have a basic bank account with no overdraft facility and my savings account does not have any facilities other than putting money in and withdrawing it out) (However. When I was 24 (Now 30) I had a standard account with a cheque book facility, I was young and stupid and bounced about £1900.00 worth of cheques) I never paid that debt off and moved 4 times since that happened, and all my wages were paid into my savings account. In 2005 I set up a basic account because I wanted to use direct debits and started having my wages paid into that account. I asked the staff at my local abbey about my old account they advised me that the account had been closed and there was no more debt for me to pay. So I tried to call the collections team, but they are not open until next week. Can anyone tell me where i stand, as far as i know, I do not owe Abbey any money, i have not made any contact to Abbey in regards to my old debt, i have received no letters to say they are going to withdraw money from my savings account, can they do this?. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
