  1. Thank you for your reply - further to this :: If the total price of loan including interest etc totalled £13,700 and we paid 26 month's worth of £146.50 (£3,809) - this being just a few hundred quid under a third, would they be within their rights to then charge a further £3,000 penalty? Thanks
  2. Can the council just paint new road markings ie DYs and SYs whenever they like and wherever they like, or should the immediate properties be informed of planned markings and be subject to formal debate before actual action is taken? The SY in question is now broken, if I park on it and get a FPN, is this enforceable? Regards
  3. Hi, Just wondering if there's anything I can claim back from the following situation - I'm annoyed at this as this seems to be the catalyst for my current debt situation! At the tender age of 17 & 18 (myself and partner respectively) we headed to Lookers Renault in Stockport, Manchester - where we purchased a Renault Clio on hire purchase - included in this was Gap Insurance but i'm not sure of what else was included in the final price of the loan agreement without digging round for it (or requesting it through Lookers). We were very young and entered into a mortgage too to buy a house and so we were living to the last penny, when, jealousy got the better of some people in my area and the car kept getting windows smashed and aerials stolen. Insurance premiums went up so much that we just couldn't afford to pay for the car payments, insurance and mortgage payments and so the car had to go back by terminating the agreement. In order for the car to be taken back by the firm, we had to pay a further £3,000 of the price which came about by way of loan and so the subsequent debts that followed. Did I have to pay up to a certain amount before it became acceptable to terminate the agreement? Thanks for any advice or help that you have. The agreement was originally from 2003 (from 53 reg) and was terminated in May 2005.
  4. I used Experian online about 2 years ago. I had a quick look round to see if anyone else was cheaper but decided to go ahead with the report. At the time, it was £5.99 to view my credit report and then there was a further report which was available for something like £8.00. I don't think I chose to do that. I only wanted to view the report once and so no reason for me to carry on with my subscription. I did have to phone the number that was online and speak to a rep - and they were willing enough to cancel the membership. I had no issues with them. But as i said, it was roughly 2 years ago.
  5. Unfortunately, there are rules and acts which prevent you from participating in such an event unless it has gone through the gambling commission as there has to be an element of skill to be actually allowed to enter the draw to win the prize. Oldborough Retreat: Latest Updates That is a competition which has been on the news etc and one which I have invested in a ticket. The Gambling Commission (GC) originally decided the question was OK and that the competition could go ahead as a solicitor was overseeing all the entrants processes and any other legal issues. There are lots of updates as this has been suspended for the time being whilst the organisers try to resolve the issues the GC now have with the draw so you may be able to find a lot of information about how you would go about this lottery. The solicitor who pioneered the original legislation which allowed this raffle to go ahead legally is Steve Kuncewicz (I used to work with him in Manchester) he has now moved on to another law firm, but google him and he'll show up with contact details. Good Luck
  6. Well, to start off with this is a Loan. My partner and I were young at the time of getting the loan and we were taken to a room above the branch. The salesman told us we wouldn't be accepted for the loan without the payment protection bolt-on as I had moved jobs recently. I have had credit cards with the same bank, but that didnt get used much - the card debt was cleared with the loan debt. Also, i'm wondering if I could do anything about a hire purchase agreement which ended with me £6,000 out of pocket and no car but i'll start a new thread for that one as its a different company and deal all together. I have written the letter and signed my cheque - the ball has begun to roll!
  7. Well good luck Dodger - thats an awful lot of cash to save in a year and will be a good incentive to stop - not to mention the health benefits! Thanks for the info on Zyban, a family member was talking about that and he said there weren't any side effects... i will tell him to read up on that!
  8. Many thanks for your help. I will indeed take more photos and will start a log of times and dates and registration numbers. Also, i'm sure the video of a warden walking up to an offending car on DYs, photographing it and walking away without penalties being issued may make the grade too. They were quick enough to fine me for not having enough poop scoop bags - they can bloody fine these fools too. Once again, thank you very much for your replies and when the time comes, I will report back here to let you know how things went.
  9. I have smoked since being 16, quite a late starter in today's age. I'm now 24 and regularly smoked 15 a day. I found it was more routine than the actual craving for smoking and for me, it was just convincing myself that I didn't need the nicotine and that going to the back door for a ciggie just wasn't worth the effort. Another thing which has helped me stop smoking has been something so simple, it's a little strange and i'm sure some poeple will be locked up under the mental health act for doing it but - when I decided to stop smoking, although I weren't addicted to the nicotine, I just basically said out loud to myself, J, you have a choice, can you say no to this cig. So I said that to myself "I don't need this one yet", and then again a few hours later "I don't need this one yet". It's only been since January 1st admittedly, but I haven't had nor cravaed a cigarette and I feel a lot more comfortable than I did when I stopped for 4 months a few years back. I have done the social events and not craved a ciggie with my beer so I think (fingers crossed) I have beaten it this time - it also comes down to my partner who also smokes but has put herself through torment reducing her fag intake by 80% to 2 a day! So far, since Jan 1st, we have saved roughly £40 between us!
  10. Well, I heard a few success stories in relation to recovering mis-sold PPI and I always thought to myself, nah - I don't know much about it so i'll just carry on. But then I stumbled upon this site and all the helpful people and I am now about to start. Is the following template which hellhasnofury put on last year still OK to use today or should I use a more up to date one? Kind regards and many thanks for all the future help I hope to receive.
  11. My house is attached to one to my left, after that is a turn off to the left into a street. The garage puts two cars infront of mine and my neighbour's house - it looks like this : _________________________________________ __ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ............__________________________________ |........ / ::::: TREE ::: CAR ::::::: CAR ::::: TREE *|........| *|........| :::: NEIGHOUR ::::: MY HOUSE Street B If the above shows correctly on your screen, the "CAR" and "*" stands for the garage cars. There are further cars down the Street B which I cannot be bothered to draw on, but there are 4 on the above image and at least a further 2 on street B. I have to park my car on street B due to restrictions (hopefully getting a driveway soon which will eradicate this anyway) but at the minute, whenever my partner or I need to go somewhere in the car, we have to edge over into th e main road in order to see if anything is coming and as such (thankfully not to us *touch wood*) there have been several collisions, one fatally, a good friend of mine and this may play a part in my hatred for the excess parking, but primarily for the safety of my two young children. Thank you for your views.
  12. The fact they're for sale would bother me no less than if it were private cars. It's the fact that no one is supposed to park there between the hours of 07:00 and 10:00 and 16:30 and 18:30, yet every day there are cars from the garage outside my house from 08:00 to 20:00. I just don't see why they should get away with it when there have been more than one parking attendant come out and see the cars parked on DYs and within the time restrictions clearly marked on a signpost. Having just read ujp on a couple of rules and regs, I came accross the following act brought in in 2005 - are you saying this isn't the case? The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 3 Exposing vehicles for sale on a road (1) A person is guilty of an offence if at any time— (a) he leaves two or more motor vehicles parked within 500 metres of each other on a road or roads where they are exposed or advertised for sale, or (b) he causes two or more motor vehicles to be so left. (2) A person is not to be convicted of an offence under subsection (1) if he proves to the satisfaction of the court that he was not acting for the purposes of a business of selling motor vehicles. (3) A person guilty of an offence under subsection (1) is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 4 on the standard scale. (4) In this section— “motor vehicle” has the same meaning as in the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978 (c. 3); “road” has the same meaning as in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (c. 27).
  13. I have phoned my local authority on this who gave me the "We will send somebody out to investigate your complaint" and yes, they did - and the garage was parking cars on double yellow lines. The parking attendant looked at the cars and moved along. Didn't come back! This has happened twice and I'm starting to wonder if the garage is paying them to stay schtum! The Question : Is it illegal or are any road traffic offenses being committed when a garage parks cars for sale on the public highway? Take out the fact that some are untaxed and some are parked on double yellow lines all day or on single yellow lines within the timeline restriuctions, I just want to know whether there's a rule somewhere which prohibits the garage owner from parking cars outside the boundaries of the garage land and if so what I can do about it. I'm growing increasingly frustrated with the ladyparts who work there and park upwards of 6 cars on a dangerous corner where there have been several collisions in the past 12 months. A letter to my local council has gone unheeded.
