  1. Thank you - my friend moved in, in March 2005 and he lives alone so his bills have been average for a single occupancy. He had no problem allowing the gas man in to check the meter as he was none the wiser about this sort of thing and would of reported it in the first place had he of known. I guess the gas supplier should be looking into the previous owners and checking them too.
  2. A friend of mine had his gas meter read recently and the guy stated it looked as if it has been tampered with. They took the meter away for checking and said it had been confirmed that it had. My friend knows nothing about this and always just paid his bill as normal when they came through. He wouldnt even know what to do with a gas meter never mind tamper with it. The supplier has now issued him with a bill for £5000 and stated unless he paid for the gas used the case will be forwarded to CPS for prosecution. He lives alone and his usage has never been high. Any advice please?????
  3. Took my little MX5 to the local garage yesterday as she had a judder on accelaration. Even with my limited knowledge of the engine I guessed it was to do with either plugs, air filter and or lead problems and not a major job issue. Dropped her off at 10am and left my home number to contact me just in case anything major was found. At 3.30pm I called the garage to see how things were progressing and what had been found. I was told by the young lad that she had been up on the ramp and his colleague had noticed a misfire. They then tested the leads with a pair of universal ones and in his words " she ran as sweet as a nut". I was told they had ordered a new set for my make of car and were awaiting delivery, they would call me when it was done for pick up. Fair enough at 5pm they called and I went to the garage to pick her up and pay my bill. Only to be floored when confronted with a bill for £207.83!!! On the invoice it states they ran tests for : compression test £40, ignition ht circuit test misfire traced to No 2 cylinder £80. The parts bill was only for total of £56.88 for new leads and plugs. I was flabbergasted that having already diagnosed a simple problem they ran theses tests with out even checking with myself first and alerting me to the additional cost even after I rang them to check what problem was. Were these expensive tests really necessary when the lad I spoke to confirmed they knew what the problem was and had diagnosed already by checking with a set of universal leads? Needless to say, a letter to the garage owner went hand delivered this morning and I await his reply, but where do I stand with this? are they allowed to do this at all?
  4. Thank you both for your help, its much appreciated. British Gas has now decided to pass on charges 'debt' to a DCA - the fact that its in dispute with them at this time surely they cant do this ? Correct me if I'm wrong. They are also now trying to say that the charges are in fact not charges but for gas used. The original bill has been paid to the full amount and he has documented evidence of this as in the original bill and the total amount it came to for gas used. The total charges for telephoning him ( whether he was at home to take the calls or not!!) is £111
  5. My partner got behind paying his gas bill - not a problem he did pay it recently, however, British Gas are charging him £14 for every phone call they made to him requesting the payment. The original bill as stated was paid but he is refusing to pay these call charges and now they have threatened him with a warrant to disconnect and passing on to bailiffs. Any advice, as these call charges seem excessive.
