  2. That's pretty much what I was thinking, although they havent actually told me what the debt is?!
  3. Guys, need a little advice here. I received a letter out of the blue this morning from Cabot saying they would be visiting me next Monday. Now - I have never heard of these people or ever received anything from them before. I've only lived in my current premises for 7 weeks. (Probably) stupidly I rang the number on the letter to find out what it was about. Guy asked me if I lived at a particular address - which I did some years ago, and then for my DOB. I said I'm not giving you my DOB over the phone without knowing what its about and he suggested I look up their website, and the conversation ended. Now, obviously I know who they are and what they want I'm not sure where to start. Going back a few years I was admittedly terrible with my finances, and ran away from a couple of CC debts. I'm not proud of this at all but its done. I did this in 2002, so unfortunately for me the debt wont be statute barred (I think?). What should my first step be, write to them asking what the debt is for? I just dont know where to begin really. I dont know if they will turn up next week, either way they wont get in as i live in a fairly secure apartment complex, and wont actually be in anyway - but I would really appreciate advise on where to start Thanks, and sorry for long post. [edit] - letter is identical to the one in this thread http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/cabot/109014-what-does-letter-mean.html
  4. Cant answer the question as I need to know this as well, anyone?
  5. Probably a stupid question, but...once I have the money, what do I need to do on Moneyclaim, presumably I have to somehow let them know the bank have paid up?
  6. Thanks kazzaw, have faxed it off and will also post just to be on the safe side.
  7. Thanks Monkey, off to Tunisia for a week, did you fax as opposed to send the letter then?
  8. Received a letter today offering the full amount. Result! Just about to do the survey, donation will be made when I get back from holiday next week.
  9. Letter sent advising I will be holding out for the full amount, and explaining I will discuss my fee for confidentiality
  10. Had an offer today of £1173.60, needless to say I wont be accepting!

    Court

Hi Paul, and welcome You need to spend some time looking through the FAQ section of the forum, everything you need is in there, and sample letters for every stage are available in the Library section. Good luck!
  12. Good luck! I'm nearly there, just waiting for FD to acknowledge my claim...
  13. 1) Yes, as long as they're not "arrangment fees" or suchlike 2) no, sting them for the lot 3) You only add the 8% on if you have to file a claim at the court Next step is to draft a letter asking for your money back, use the template in the library...FD will no doubt tell you to bugger off, unless its a smallish amount. When they do, wait another 14 days and send them the second letter...get told to bugger off again, wait another 14 days and file your claim
