  1. I took in cakes for the kids' teachers and the reception staff today, and got hugs from them for it:)
  2. That's my husband. Should he be worried about attacks from wasps guarding my chocolate?
  3. 'Although we may have tried to contact you' Seriously? Can they not even work out if they have or haven't? lol @ RobWay Love your letter sillygirl!
  4. Started to build my very overdue kitchen last night, only to find that we're still missing 2 units:( Why can't some companies just do what they're meant to?
  5. OH has to work today:( And his ba**ard boss doesn't even consider paying or giving days in lieu, it's just expected as the company contracts all say that employees must work above and beyond if required. He works a good 1/2 hour overtime every day unpaid, often misses lunches, and no-one gets any recognition from the boss. I also found out yesterday that he's got to be away for four days at the end of the month, and again there's no mention of compensation in any form. What's worse is that in every other dept. the managers/directors realise that working over your normal hours should be rewarded in some way, it's just the IT director who is a complete to**er. And he's the MD's brother in law so thinks he's untouchable (he's actually said that to people). No-one will go up against him formally as they are worried about their jobs, or if they don't get fired their working environment. Complaining informally to HR does sod all - they have a huge file of complaints against him (he's been noted as proudly saying he has the biggest file), but nothing is done:mad:
  6. After all our issues with the new kitchen it was finally delivered yesterday at 9pm (original delivery date was 22nd June). Just crossing fingers now that it's all there and in good order! I also had a bonus with the dishwasher we've been after. We were let down by a shop we'd ordered through, and it was nearly £100 more to buy elsewhere, but I happened to check ebay (for about the hundredth time) last night and there was a brand new graded one on sale for nearly £200 less than the rrp - just because it has slight damage n the side which doesn't affect the working. Even if carriage costs £100 we're saving. So pleased:)
  7. Can we send Jedward into the corner? Just not my corner please! I'll stay here on my own like Billy No-mates... ps Nystagmite, I've just googled D O'D - I think you definitely need to join me;)
  8. How very dare you! One day he'll realise Angelina is not for him. Or lovely Johnny Depp will get fed up with Vanessa. Either way I'd be happy.
  9. Oh dear. Not sure if it's worse that I've apparently got a mental age of 12 when it comes to music, or that I don't know who Daniel O'Donnell is?
  10. I've just realised I'm really ok with Olly Murs' music. I'm so ashamed.
  11. This didn't make me smile so much as go wtf! http://www.info4security.com/story.asp?storycode=4129318
  12. String, a door and a glass of something strong? Hope you get to see someone soon!
  13. Our dishwasher blew up on Tues, and seeing as we have no kitchen sink at the moment it was a bit desperate that we got one. Found one from a company who said they had it in stock at £470 (one of the cheapest prices we'd seen, others went up to over £700!) and could deliver next day, so we ordered it yesterday morning. Yesterday afternoon I get a call saying they can't honour the order as although they ordered four from Siemens, and had only sold 3, the last one was nowhere to be found. He sounded very genuine and was very apologetic - and baffled - but there wasn't anything much I or he could do. I obviously had to keep looking for another stockist, and I've just had a quick look on their site again out of interest. It's now up for £599, in stock for immediate delivery. My guess is they realised it was a good price, had had a few enquiries and decided not to sell lower than they needed to. The other place I went to who are brilliant with their customer service (appliances online, it's worth checking there if you need something!) offer a price match. I found a machine for £450 which they wouldn't match as it didn't meet their terms (fair enough), but they had 6 in stock in the morning so I went and had another look around. Found the next cheapest (the place that let me down), phoned them back to match it but they couldn't as they'd sold out! I think I'm going to be washing dishes in the bath forever
  14. Thanks burly:) Luckily the fitter isn't a problem, just the supplier. Our next door neighbours' son installs kitchens into Wickes showrooms and does normal fitting too, and he's doing us a favour at about 1/3 price we were quoted by 3 other people. If only we had a kitchen for him to fit ps - today it's like Jordans. Tomorrow (when I'm less peeved), not so much
  15. Our new kitchen was due to be delivered on the 22nd June for fitting that weekend. Phoned the supplier to chase for updates on delivery 4 or 5 times, and when we finally got hold of him we're told (with no apology) that it is now Monday due to supplier isses. Monday morning arrives and we've heard nothing, so again on the phone to chase. Now due on Thursday, again no apology. Phone Weds to check time for delivery, now it's Friday, which means I have to miss part of my sons last Sports Day at primary school in order to wait in for the delivery. Delivery arrives two hours later than stated. I start building units ready for the re-arranged fitter the next day, only to find that there are integral carcasses missing. We'd agreed that the doors may not all be there (in fact none were), but said we had to have the carcasses - this was all fine according to supplier. I was too cross to phone so I tempered myself and emailed explaining the delays and the incorrect units. Finally received a phone call from supplier in the afternoon on Friday, blaming missing units on the warehouse. Missing units (no mention of doors/handles/plinths etc) should be with us Monday/Tues. Still no apology. On Monday I call at 11ish as he's not got in touch. He thinks I'm another customer and starts making excuses as to why their kitchen is late. Huge alarm bells. Realises it's me and says units due on Weds/Thurs! I say that his message on Friday said they'd be here Mon/Tues - his response 'yeah, well'. Still no apology. Now I have several cakes due for delivery by the 20th July, so this is a big issue, which I tell him. He very begrudgingly says he's going to Crown later that day and will chase them to see what can be done, then phone back. You guessed it - nothing. On Tues I phone again at 2.30ish and ask what's going on. Apparently he's going to call Crown in 10 mins and will find out what's going on (huh - you were meant to be there yesterday, why do you need to call them?). I was not happy and told him as such, ending the call with him assuring me he'd call back asap. At 6pm I phone and get his answerphone. Left a message stating that if we don't have the kitchen in full in 2 days I'll cancel the order and he can pick up what they've dropped off. So far still not heard from them. I'm so fed up. We've had no kitchen for a month now as work was being done, the units are two weeks late and not looking like they're going to be arriving any time soon, and I'm trying to work out how the helll I'm going to make several novelty cakes and cupcakes with no kitchen. On top of that, our tumble dryer blew up (literally) on Monday, then yesterday our dishwasher did the same. We have no sink at the moment so that means going upstairs to wash everything, and I (with great difficulty due to my workspace being the top of a fridge) made a full roast yesterday so I've got tons of bloody dishes from that, plus the ones that were halfway through a wash when the washer packed up! And I've got a headache:( Sorry for the long rant, but I needed to get it off my chest!
  16. But did you also see that the high bidder wouldn't pay, saying they only bid to push the price up. Ditto the previous 20 or so individual bidders. Rotten barstewards. I've seen that happen with charity auctions/funny auctions run by adults, but to do that to a five year old is just wrong.
  17. Just read your post burly. I'm so sorry for you and your poor nephew's family. xx
  18. Not just me then! I think I will have a bit of a moan as after two coats it's still very patchy. I know it's the paint as I swiped a half empty can of Crown paint from my mum (one of their indulgence range colours which I really liked and handily mum had some left:D) which my 9 year old painted one wall with and that's fine after two coats - even with his painting;). NO - I didn't do the pva option as my plasterer friend told me it was unnecessary. It did have two mist coats of 60/40 paint/water so the walls were prepared for normal painting. A couple of builders I know say they only use one coat but I didn't think that was enough. Slightly worried now also about the yellowing that people have had with the white paints - the one I have is Absolute White. Is this limited to their wood paint or am I in line for a yellow kitchen in a month? ps - your comment about nothing being that dry in Scotland really made me chuckle MD
  19. I'm just painting my kitchen with their Light and Space paint which cost £40 for a 5l tin (!!!!!!!!!!£40??????), and it's cack. There's a couple of mist coats underneath as it was fresh plaster, and it just looks like another mist coat on top. I always do two coats when painting, but I reckon if I get away with 3 I'll be lucky. I was really reluctant to get Dulux again as I remembered last time I used it I was unimpressed, so much so that I've been using B&Q's own range which to my mind is how Dulux used to be (and half the cost which is always a bonus). I wanted the L&S though which afaik only Dulux do, and I did think that for basically double the price of their normal paint it might be better. It's not:( Is it just me being picky or has anyone else found this? I'm tempted to be really sad and complain to them about it. I bought 12.5l of the stuff so that I had tons too much, but I think I may end up using the lot and then some. Boo.
  20. I saw that last night - I fast forwarded through it as I loathe those ads, but had to go back as the end bit caught my eye
  21. Well clearly I've had it all wrong sod'em, I'm very sorry, and on behalf of all women I should apologise for our complete disregard for your 'consideration' to all us ladies
  22. I would have expected that from my hubby, and I'd have thought he was ill if it wasn't an answer along those lines Love it And Sod'em - the reason we complain about the frickin' loo seat is that you are grown men and should be able to aim in a hole even if it's half an inch in diameter smaller than you're used to! All us ladies know the real reason is that men feel less need to clean the rim than the seat if (when) they miss!
