  1. Hey all, Currently I have a Bank Of Scotland Credit card. I have been paying the balance in full each month and then using the full balance to pay off other debts. Which are nearly paid off, however the bank recently reduced my credit limit and after numerous phone calls has not restored the limit. The problem is that they reduced it below the original limit while the card was charged above it. The limit is only £150 by my own choice and yet although the card was at 147 when they reduced the limit, they still continued do so anyway. Causing me arrears. I was wondering if it is illegal for a bank to through you into debt and financial hardship with no evidence of the card not being paid correctly. There has been no late payments or fees in the last year and the full limit has been paid off each month. An additionally piece of information is they did not inform me of the limit decrease. So I could have taken appropriate action to reduce it at the time. Thanx for the help in advance. D
  2. Hey all, I have been in receipt of housing benefit since becoming a part-time student in October 2011. I will be entering post graduate full-time this year, however I seem to be having concurrent problems with housing benefit. I will have full student funding next year, however recently I incurred several rent arrears and as a result I was taken to court today. I paid off a substantial amount of rent arrears and as a result there will now be a continuance. Housing Benefit have failed to provide the rent required for the last year. This is due to incomptence. I currently work part- time and am earning just over the fresh hold which effective entities me to full-housing benefit. Due to arrears, which have since been seen as un-founded by my housing association, I have landed up in these arrears. I am planning on paying off the rent n full over the coming months as I have taken on a substantial amount of over time (effectively reducing the amount of benefit received), however they currently owe me a substantial amount and have been unwilling to pay. So my question is really is there any action or further action I can take such as court to recoever the money entitilement they have failed to provide. This is the second time I have been on benifits and was lead to beleive any previous over paid amounts had been paid off. I am looking for some or any advice on steps to deal with there failure to provide the correct amounts each month. Thank you for the help in advance.
  3. Hey all, I'm not entirely sure this is the right forum for this, but here it goes If not feel free to move it So two years ago I bought a Dell Xps Studio laptop for those of you who have had them you will probably realise the nightmare they are. After 3 months of faults and a 3 year business warranty dell replaced the system and did not collect the old one. I stated this to them, however it seemed to go quietly ignored. I then kept the laptop away for a while and finally someone came to collect the laptop as I had received the replacement, which turned out to be also faulty. In any case it disrupted my studies etc not having the laptop. A year later the issues had gotten so bad on my replacement, Dell asked to give me a refund or replace the system with a brand new up to date system. I had to pay an additional £100 for a system that was on par with my own and apparently more up to date. I must also state they told me I had to pay a base amount of £100 for the system regardless as it was an upgrade. I had a massive fight about reinstating a 3 year business warranty on it also. I have had problems with this system. In addition the upgrades also only cost about £52. Dell also originally stated I paid less for the laptop than they were willing to give till I emailed the old receipt. I am still awaiting collection for the old one 5 months later. I got in contact with Dell by mail to complain, however they have turned it into a legal battle in regards to the collection of the First laptop. The first laptop was faulty and I don't understand why they would think I'd keep it. I informed them it had been collected over a year ago and they stated that it hadn't been. They have stated it was never returned to them. So are threatening legal action in which I am will to fight with them about. I have two questions can Dell legally replace goods with a charge? Also even if the laptop wasn't collected how many months until the laptop would be written off by Dell if they failed to collect the system? and How many months to they have to legally collect faulty goods? The only reason I ask the second question as it did take 6 months for them to collect the system and I wasn't even aware the courier was coming that day to collect it. Therefore I'd like to use that against them if they state otherwise. If the system could not be collected beyond said date I could argue that in my case. Thank you for all your help in advance. Any assistance is appreciated
  4. Hey all, I've just moved into a flat, with no carpet, bed, washing machine, cooker etc. In the Community care grants infinite wisdom, i would have been awarded one, if it hadn't been for the fact i was apparently on contribution based job seekers allowance, which as far as i am concerned is just not possible? I got a letter stating i was on Incomebased originally and now the bugers won't pay up. Anyone got any specific details on exactly how much you have to earn to get contribution based. I will find every little bit of detail I can to fight this, but unforutnatly alot of the documents are very non-specific Any help would be greatly appreciated
  5. hey, all this is for my own curiosity... ok maybe i'm being a bit impatient lol, but i am rather desperate. I sent away a community care grant appplication on Thursday and recieved a rather quick response today. I applied for one while in an rented property early last year. But, Unfortunatly I moved into another one with my partner/mate. I landed up facing domestic abuse from him and Physical abuse and as a result was made priorty homeless like 2 months ago. I have recently moved into a LHO flat and as this is an assocation flat there are no carpets and i've had to buy all my own furnishings...... well that's the reason i'm applying don't have them. So anyways, i got this reponse asking me questions about what i need, pricing etc all thought i included that in my origonal application. I was just wondering if this is a good sign that they maybe conisdering my application this time more throughly in order to recieve it. I got a straight out no last time after weeks of waiting and I was wondering if this letter may potientally mean they think that I need the money this time. Any thoughts? Anything would be appreciated as i am desperate

  7. Hey All, At the moment I have just applied for a let with my best mate. We are planning on moving in on the first of December and as it is my 21st bday that month and christmas, i'm hopping to get it. I currently have a credit rating at poor, due to my previous flatmate. We opened a joint bank account together and she has now just finally offered to pay the final amount off as i have paid more than half and she caused the problems in the first place. Unfortuantly it has damanged my credit file. I'm a full time student at the moment with 3 credit cards that are all in sink and when my bursary finally arrives... i went self supporting which took alot of effort to get and resulted in my delayed payment... in any case I am going to pay off the 2 credit cards when this arrives and keep my student credit card. In any case this has had a bit of a impact on my credit file. I am going with 1-2-let don't know if anyone is familar with them? My new flat mate does not have a credit rating as he doesn't have a bank account etc. My mother is going garantor and has an excellent credit rating. Our wages more than cover the flat. Leasegaurd is the company running the check and i even have a good reference from my previous landlord. So i was just wondering do u believe it is possible for us to get this tennancy? I am a little concerned as I seem to have a CCJ on my file that is not mine, it is another mans in a different flat possition. I have contact experian about this, but they still haven't removed it. I'm just wondering if you feel it is possible for us to get this flat as i am convinced my credit rating will fail and as my mate has no credit rating they can't check up on him. Although our employeer is ready to confirm our wages etc. I was also wondering will they run the check on us first and if it fails go to the garantor? I'm unsure. Anyways, I hope someone can offer some help... please As i'm really concerned about not getting a flat till after christmas. Im living in my cousins spare flat with no furniture etc.
  8. hey all, i'm new to the boards lol, so just thought id say hey first and foremost! The problem im having is that my rent is £225 and they are only going to give me a total of 37.50 a week which means that i am short of £ 75 on job seekers including bills and council tax benefit ill have nothing to live on. They focus on age which is a form of discrimination as far as i am concerned. But, in any case has anyone appealed and contested this amount? I'm 20 years old and wont have anywhere to live from here. going back to uni in september tho. thanx guys.
