  1. when there is fraud on a cust a/c a bank account adviser can only increase your overdraft temp if the system will let them, if it wont the only people who can is fraud, who could have completed it on the same day(if they were still open). you don't need to wait for fraud, the agent could have rang through and got an overdraft keyed instantly (if the type of a/c allowed it).
  2. on an easycash account a direct debit/standing order/cheque payment will never be paid, they will be returned and you will be charged £15 which is pretty decent considering for the same thing on a different account you would be charged £35.
  3. you may both be working the same job and getting the same rate but he may be getting more student grant/imbursery or money from family friends going into the a/c. also it may depend on the conduct of you account previously when compared to his and if you have had any debt previously/currently. The department the branch would have called would have been underwriting, but more than likely the number the branch gave you to call was telephone banking for current accounts.
  4. Electron cards are not being done away with, halifax cardcash accounts (over 18 ) are, so people are being transferred to either the easycash (essentially the same a/c) which has an electron or a current a/c which has a visa debit, depending on their credit scoring.
  5. Here is something for people to look at to try and understand Halifax Bank Accounts - Receiving and sending money Money paid in via the atm machine is not available straight away, not just halifax numerous banks do this eg abbey. If you use the immediate/express pay in boxes the money will credit your account that same day as long as its met before the cut of time of 4pm.
  6. ok il explain how the system works... old system (before may 2008) You phone on monday to make bill payment/transfer, the amount is automatically taken of your available balance and you are told 4 working days. Customer thinks the payment is on its way, when infact it isn't its still with the sending bank. It would arrive on Thursday. New system You phone on monday to make bill payment/transfer, the amount is not automatically taken of you available balance, instead it is only deducted when it actually debits the a/c the following day(as long as its before monday cut off point) and you are told it will take 3 working days from the date it debits (Tuesday) and would arrive on Thursday. So it actually still takes the same length of time just means its not automatically deducted of your available balance and it seems to customers its taking a day longer, when infact originally it never left the sending bank until the following day. hope this helps
  7. Yes the charges may be quite a lot but kinda stupid to continue to withdraw the money when he new he didnt have it in the first place if its the first ever set of charges on the a/c they can be reversed if he rings and asks
  8. Ok to clear this up the reference you see on your online statement/paper statement is actually keyed in by the person/company sending the payment, just as if you were making a payment you would be asked do you have a reference to put on? This is not halifax fault, is the dwp who are keying this reference when the payment is sent! As reguards that you notified halifax of these suspicious emails, does mean they will sit and watch your account to make sure nothing happens, the ammount of people who recieve these emails each day would not allow that to happen, as there is simply not enough staff in any bank to do this. The team where you send the email to, tries to investigate wee the email orignated from to try and stop it from happening.
  9. hbos sent letters in error to certain customers, contact them and double check.
  10. it does not state any times in the terms and the conditions, but it does state the funds need to be available the day before hand
  11. via the telephony channel the bank will not accept any form of answers being prompted, so yes that even means asking some1 else who may be named on the same account. Your telephone access will be blocked and you will be referred to the branch with 2 forms of id
  12. Yes if you owe money to the bank for any product, they can take money out of any account that your named on within the same bank.
  13. It used to be that Direct Debits had 2 runs, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Approx around last June/July that stopped. The official rule is suffucient cleared funds need to be available in the account the day before any dd/so comes out. Direct debits leave the Halifax between 3-5am, debits before credits
  14. unsympathetic? well i do feel sorry for some people sometime, but when they take the **** its hard to. im not arrogant, i am entitled to my opinon. simple as, dont go overdrawn and you wont get charged. people just dont seem to like the truth!
  15. no i understand people can make a mistake and thats why banks have charge reversal policies, but when some1 is constantly going over drawn it gets tiresom listening to the same thing, and them not learning from it. They will lie and lie just to get out of it eg - i work for a bank and today a woman rang me and had occurred charges. She told me she was so sick and in bed she could not check her account. i explained internet and telephone services are available which she said she was too sick even for that. i checked her other accounts and it showed that she had been spending money on her debit card in shops, the days the charges occurred and during the period she was too "sick" to check her account. I checked her charge history and she had 3 charges reversed last year, each for the same thing, using her debit card. Each time she had been told to check her account obviously she was not. Just gets tiring listening to them. I mean i have been stung myself by charges about 4 years ago, but i check my account each day (sad it may seem) to make sure i have money, so i do not go overdrawn. Just my opinion lol
  16. Everybody seems to think that it is great to claim back your bank charges. have you ever thought what will happen if bank charges are done away with? most prob they will look towards a system europe uses eg 1 - pay a monthly fee to have an a/c with the bank 2 - pay per transaction eg 30p direct debit out of your account, 25p per debit card transaction, 25p per atm withfrawl etc My self i would rather bank charges stayed in place, so that people who actually can stay within their agreed overdrafts, are not being penalized as a result of people who can not! Rest asure the people who can not, will still be complaining when they introduce a new pay per transaction system.
