  1. At the start of November, I bought a tft monitor from Maplin. After a week or so, I noticed that it was emitting a high-pitched whine, and that the frequency of the whine changed when the image on the screen changed. I contacted the manufacturer, who confirmed that it should not do this and offered to collect it fro free so they could repair it. However, they suggested I should contact Maplin first as they may be able to offer other remedies such as replacement/refund. I did as they suggested, and after a week Maplin eventually replied to my email and said they would arrange to have it collected and so they could test it before deciding what to do. The courier failed to turn up at all on the first day, but did eventually arrive on the second attempt. That was 2 weeks ago. Today I received a reply to my enquiry as what they were doing with my monitor telling me they could find no fault with it and that it was 'probably fan noise', so they were returning it to me unfixed. I can't believe they couldn't hear the whining noise, unless they didn't bother testing it properly. What should I do now? I can still ask the manufacturer to repair it (although I am now concerned that they may also claim there is no fault), but I am not happy about how Maplin have dealt with the issue in any way, and would like to take the matter further as I believe they are shirking their responsibilities as a retailer. The result is I have been sold a faulty item, and they have basically told me to like it or lump it. Do I have any right to reverse the credit card transaction? I would appreciate if anyone could me any regarding my rights as a consumer and appropriate courses of action. Thanks!
