Hello, My name is David and first of all I'd like to say well done to everyone who has successfully reclaimed bank charges in the past! I'm currently thinking about making a claim against Lloyds TSB for charges levied against my account over a 3 year period. I am quite literally at stage one of the ladder to reclaiming these charges. Let me give you a little bit of history about my situation, I had a Lloyds TSB account from around April 2002 until November 2005. In July 2002 I applied for and received an overdraft of £1700 and all seemed well, from then on until my account was closed by Lloyds TSB in November 2005 I lived on or around the £1700 overdrawn limit. During that time my monthly overdraft fee was around £20 which seemed fair enough, I did 'owe' them £1700 afterall, what was concerning me however was that I was also paying between £30 and £200 a month in failed direct debit fees and unauthorised overdraft fees. The situation came to a head when in September 2005 I got married, 2 days after that I had a car accident, no sympathy please was my own fault... driving too far when i was too tired haha. Anyway the car accident left me with no job for a while so I visited my local branch to explain my situation and inform them that because of my recent car accident, I admit I played on it to win sympathy, I would not be able to honour a few impending direct debits from my account to which I was told by the member of staff I saw that there was nothing they could do and that I would be liable for a charge for each failed item, if memory serves me right it was 5 items. Disgruntled I left the bank with the vow that I would walk away and not pay them a penny anymore. As a result Lloyds TSB duly closed my account and informed me I owed them something in the region of £2300. I have never disputed the fact I owe them £1700 for the overdraft but surely the charges levied on my account exceed what I owe them? I'm at a quandry regarding my situation, should I chase them for the penalties incurred and have them chase me for the £1700 I owe them or should I just leave it?
