  1. Most likely. They start out with small amounts, see if you pick it up - which you obviously did but your bank would not have it. Then after a period will try one more time so see if the payment will be processed or stopped and if this goes through ok will hit you with the big one.
  2. Glad I can help, however I think you should write to Ambrose Wilson with your concerns and ask them exactly how they obtained your details, it could be something as simple as entering a competition however for your own sake I would get it confirmed. I take it the account was opened some time ago? Don't want to spook you but one of the patterns for identity fraud is someone stealing your details and opening an insignificant account which they don't use or spend small amounts on that will not attract much attention.
  3. It is important to know what is on the reverse however as OP may find the reverse is the agreement which contains the required prescribed terms and may have the line that "once this application is accepted by us this document becomes the executed agreement between parties". Without seeing the reverse you'll not know. The document posted does say Your Credit card application and agreement.
  4. You should ask them for the ip address they have on record, see if it matches the ip address of you computer.
  5. Did you enter a competition with them, say a Free Draw with a cash prize? I remember a couple of years ago (I think it was one of the Shop Direct brands) attracting criticism from the FSA about writing to people with details of a Free Prize Draw in which you could win up to £20,000. What many didn't realise was that by entering the draw, which could also be done online) they would open a credit account for you. The person who made the complaint did not realise this as they never received anything further from them and only be came aware when, like yourself, checking their credit file. The small print about opening the credit account appeared on the reverse of the letter which if you filled in and returned to them meant you had no reference to this as it was printed on the reverse of the section you had to return.
  6. Perhaps you should ask them how the account was opened and when (although you credit file would have shown the when), personally I would ask them to prove exactly how an account was opened in your name.
  7. Have they supplied the reverse as in YOUR PERSONAL DATE section it says "on the back of this form" also "terms overleaf" mentioned in paragraph at top under YOUR CREDIT CARD APPLICATION AND AGREEMENT. Usually LTSB app forms have the agreement including details of APR etc on the reverse and you sign both front and back. Also mentions full conditions set out in the document labelled "customer copy". Do you recall being given this? Did you apply for this in a LTSB branch? As it mentions Employee ID Number and Submitting Branch sort code.
  8. Did you received a default notice? Have you been contacted by either MHA Collections or BLS (LTSB in-house Collections)? or have SCM (LTSB solictors) been writing demanding payment in full? This is the usual pattern before passing onto external DCA.

  10. Erika Ambrose Wilson Limited is a sister company to J D Williams & Company Limited, the UK's leading direct home shopping company, operating over 20 successful catalogue brands. J D Williams & Company Limited is part of N Brown Group plc. If you have every requested a catalogue from any of the companies with the JD Williams Group or N Brown Group plc, the request for a catalogue (even if you do not buy anything or buy and pay with a credit or debit card) will automatically mean you are applying for a credit account with them. Few people will realise this until they buy some goods and get a statement allowing them to pay for the goods over an extended period. This is the same if you apply for a catalogue with Next or Shop Direct (Littlewoods) and I don't think anyone has every signed an agreement with any of them. This is from N Brown Group plc's web site: We are a leading direct home shopping retailer and financial services company…
  11. From The Independent (sat 17 July 2010): Questions of Cash A letter from an individual explains how two years ago they were contacted by a firm called Buy Bye Credit which promised to clear their credit card debits on the grounds that their credit card agreement was flawed. The individual paid £1,050 for "legal services" but Buy Bye Credit is not in business and it did not clear the debt. The response was as follows: "Buy Bye Credit appears to have ceased trading, the company's website no longer functions and no phone number is listed for it at its Birmingham address. The company's accounts are overdue and there is a proposal to strike out the company's registration. A search on the internet reveals many other unhappy clients of Buy Bye Credit." And this is the bit that made me smile: The response goes onto say "But you are fortunate because you paid Buy Bye Credit using a credit card making the card issuer jointly liable with the vendor for the provision of services paid for. We contacted Capital One on your behalf and it is refunding the £1,050." How ironic, CapOne being jointly liable for provision of a service to clear someones credit card debts. Sweet!
  12. Hi Martel, how things. These are old ones (you may already be aware of them). B40 Couple stung by £100,000 ‘secret’ loan - Times Online MP fears bank's phantom paperwork may be just the tip of an iceberg | Money | The Guardian How trustworthy is your bank? | Money | The Guardian But this must be the worst: http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/jul/25/royal-bank-loan-debt
  13. No, Mint, RBS and NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland Group. HBOS is Bank of Scotland Group (now owned by Lloyds Banking Group).
  14. Why would someone who has seen off both CapQuest and MacKenzie Hall and taken Customs and Excise to court, at the first instance when acting on behalf of a friend, and without getting their facts straight, immediately send a letter to a DCA informing them the debt was Statue Barred, when they would have known that not to be the case? Why would someone who has seen off both CapQuest and MacKenzie Hall need to ask these questions? You make not like what I have to say and view it as negative dialogue, but this is the something that does not add up. Your response when I first asked that only confirmed what I suspected and I think you knew you had been caught out. Your thread does not ring true.
  15. How was the account settled, did you pay the balance or offer a sum as full and final settlement?
  16. You asked what was in my head, so I replied. Your postings on other threads tell us a lot about you. Did you want advice or just agreement with what you had already done? This is an open forum. You have to take the rough with the smooth. As I said Something does not add up here.
  17. I am surprised, given your success against CapQuest, MacKenzie Hall and Customs & Excise in the past, that you did not offer some resistance. I wish your friend the very best of luck in fighting this and hope he can achieve a satisfactory outcome, given what is a stake.
  18. OK, but I get the impression real direct advice does not sit well with you.
  19. On a serious note, you are acting on behalf of a friend, I hope you have a less Cavalier attitude towards his debt problems than you do for your own.
  20. and this… http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/legal-issues/252069-debt-agency-searching-my-2.html
  21. This is what I've got in my head: From the your thread http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/general-debt-issues/118769-my-credit-file-clear.html post 13 Thanks for the information i'm looking forward to building back my credit from next year. I took various credit cards and Barclays Bank for a total of 65,000 I paid not a penny back. Only Barclays tried attachment of earnings so i completed the form sent by the court and then left that job. Because i do not own property in this country the whole process was easier for me to not pay. I now have a cash account with Alliance @ Leicester which works exactly like a bank account with direct debits but you don't need a credit check to get it. I also have a credit card with Virgin Mastercard which works like any other credit card but you top it up as you go. My credit will be clear next year as far as my file is concerned. Looking back its been an inconvenience but maybe i should of taken them for more. I don't condone taking money and not paying it back this is just my story but trust me they can afford it. post 17 Really for ever! wow seriously i am so worried you have said that! my god i will never get credit ever my life is ruined! Where did you learn words like Statute Barred ? You made me laugh just like the letters i used to receive from debt collection agencies about what they were going to do to me Bah Bah Bah. I've still got the 60 grand pal. post 19 My story is an interesting one I had a good job a nice house with a mortgage just like you. Everybody wanted to lend to me, cards banks all of them, you can imagine, all my best friends it seemed especially when i had a house to lose. After two years i had used and spend all money lent to me and found i was unable to pay back what i had borrowed. It was a crap time when this reality became my life. I was angry stupid enough to put myself in this situation and equally angry the money was offered up so easily. So i the turned the negative into a positive, sold my house brought property abroad, run up 60 grand further of debt banked abroad and rented a property and payed back nothing given my borrowing was all unsercured there was nothing any of them could do. The rest is history next year my file is clear as a result I'm very comfortable so thanks Barclays, MBNA, Capital One and all the others to whom i owe my thanks for the easiest money i will ever get. Never was i going to let these corporations who don't give a toss ruin my life, Life's too short for that it's all just a system so play it as you will. post 29 Well firstly i don't need help, what i asked is clarification on a couple of fairly basis points which you can read in my first post in this thread. I accept what i have done smacks in the face of what this forum is about and for that reason i will not argue the point. However all forums are based on honesty and debate myself all i did was give just give my story i never build it up as a solution or a way for anyone to manage a debt problem. I apologise for the negative approach to solving debts and fully understand it is not consistant to the law of the land, but then the law of the land is not always right is it? All the best with the forum and thanks for the advice. post 34 EDIT: This thread is closed. Rooster-UK.
