  1. Hello Hagenuk Thank you for this. I complained once to the bank after being charged £220 in the space of 2 months and asked how they thought that I could keep on top of things with those sorts of amounts being deducted from my account when I was clearly struggling. Their response was that when I opened my account I entered into a contract with them and that the fee rates were stated and that the amounts deducted were correct. I just blubbed and left it at that! Now I'm going to try and get my money back and I won't need to blub anymore
  2. Can anyone tell me what is considered a reasonable charge that banks can make for the following: Overdraft Interest Account Charges Unpaid Standing Orders or Direct Debits Overdraft Excess Fees Should the reasonable amount of charge be deducted from the amount that they actually took out of my account on each occasion? For example if they took £40 out for O/draft excess fees and the reasonable amount should have been £5 would the amount I can claim back be £35? Regards Clare
  3. Louis, you made me laugh......yes, I can see where you're coming from and you are definately barking........and, no, I don't have 3!! This is a name that developed over a period of time by a soppy friend of mine and is good to have as when I exhaust all the sensible user names I can come up with (because other people have them) so I revert to this. I wondered if anyone might think I had more than the average. Thanks for yours and Bookworm's welcome. It's good to know that I can get support when I need it. Tackling the big conglomerates is a scary business and although they are, in my mind, thieving, they generally have the support of the law........however in this instance they have pushed it too far and people power is fighting back..........hoorah! I'm going to write 'the letter' now and send it off with a copy of my statements and a spread sheet and keep my fingers crossed. I'm still laughing that you actually had the guts to mention that on this site. Obviously it's not as staid as I thought it might be! Clare
  4. Great I'm a Dummy! Ha..... Thanks for your advice. I'll have a wade through and I promise to stop nibbling.
  5. I'm new to this site and have spent the last 30 minutes trying to find out how to post anything to the Consumer Forum. Hopefully I'm in the right place. I have only spent a little time scanning around the site and it looks like there are a lot of peeps like me feeling that they have been overcharged with bank fees. I have also been procrastinating!!! I applied for my 6 years worth of statements about 8 months ago and have done nothing. My ex-sister-in-law told me that she had just managed to reclaim what was considered unfair charges and this has spurred me on.........hooray! Looking at this site I feel that I can get all the help I need to progress with my claim (I have two little miggles -one on each shoulder; one saying don't do it the other saying go for it!). I'm nervous about battling with authorities as I tend to tread an 'in the squares not on the lines path', but I feel I've been cheated by my bank at times when money has been very tight, if not desperate, and the bank has done nothing to help charging me even more and putting me deeper into the debt than I already was/am! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works and that I get my money back. I've already started biting my nails again..........
