  1. Hi Fatima the Cat, Hi there, I am a debt counsellor who works for a debt advice charity called Consumer Credit Counselling service. You and your wife are jointly and severally liable for any joint debts, so your wife can be pursued for the remainder of any of the joint debts included in your IVA. It should not affect your IVA, but if you are worried you should check with your IP. Now your side of things is sorted out you need to look at what your wife can do to deal with her portion of the debt. I would suggest that you look into all options available to her before deciding on what to do. Whilst we cannot advise your wife on her financial situation via this forum we do have an online electronic facility called Debt Remedy where you can complete a financial statement and be provided with advice on best way to deal with your situation. If you go to our website www.cccs.co.uk and click on Debt Remedy you can access our virtual counselling service.

When it comes to interest and charges you can ask your creditors to stop adding them on, but unfortunately it is up to them whether they do or not. However, I would suggest that you would benfit from having a look at your whole situation, so that you can put your money where it needs to go most.
