  1. Has anyone else been stung by selling an item though Bonhams Auctioneers? I had my mums two Rolex watches valued by them and asked if they sell them in their next jewellery and watches sale. They valued each watch at £300 and put this as a reserve on each watch. The didn't sell in the first sale in January 2012. Then I got a letter informing me they would put them in the next similar auction in March, but with a variety of stipulations at the discretion of the Auctioneer, of which I wasn't too sure which route they were going to follow. I finally got a letter in March informing me that they both did sell, but at £50 each and that they would take £48 in charges and only leave me with £52, which I thought pretty bad, but when I finally got the cheque it was for the princely sum of £8.50 and that Bonhams had taken a whopping £84.25 in charges, £7.25 in vat. I can't believe they went ahead and sold the watches so low and took such an exorbitant amount in charges, I feel totally cheated and if I wanted to give these lovely watches away I would have done so to the family, they were in beautiful condition, quite old, but both working well.
  2. I don't know if I still have any rights. I bought a four-poster double bed for my daughter about 3 years ago before she left home, but unfortunately she couldn't fit this size of bed in her new flat and it remained in my house still flat packed in two boxes. Well recently a friend of mine wanted a bed and so I gave her this one, only for her to discover the centre slats, which were in a separate box to the main parts of the bed, were for a completely different bed and not the one I purchased. These are longer and fewer than the ones quoted in the instruction manual and plus there is no centre rail to fit them on, nor are than any end pieces. I've rung the company concerned, but have been informed they no longer stock this sort of bed and there's nothing they can do about it. I still have the receipt, so i don't know if the law's on my side for claiming a refund after such a long time. I know I should have checked the contents when I first bought it, but didn't think I would be given completely wrong parts.
  3. Thank you so much for your help, I hope yours gets resolved too.
  4. My return flight was delayed by over 4 hours from Paphos to Birmingham and because we then landed late at night I missed my train connection for which I had purchased an advance ticket. By the time we landed there were no more trains running that night to Devon and I had to stay the night in a hotel. I then had to pay for a full price train ticket the following morning and plus my hotel stay which meant I had extra expenses due to the delay. Can I claim any of them back? Also we were offered no refreshments while waiting for our Monarch flight. Thank you for any advice you can give me.
  5. Thank you very much for your advice, unfortunately my landlady threw the old aerial in the rubbish, so I can't put it back again and take the new one.
  6. I recently purchased a new aerial, with my landlord's knowledge, for my rented cottage as the original one could not always pick up a signal. I paid £200 for the new one to be installed and am now vacating the property to move somewhere else. But my landlord says that I can't take my aerial with me and he doesn't want to compensate me for it either. So do I have claim on this aerial as I still have receipt of paying for it? Even though I complained about the lack of signal originally, nothing was done.
  7. Thanks. It was direct through a bank creditcard. I have drafted the letter to the company and am copying into this as follows:- Further to my telephone call on 13th September regarding the Panasonic microwave that I purchased, order number as above, on the 29th August, 2008, I am writing to inform you that I expect a full refund within 7 days of receiving this letter, as the microwave was faulty and at no cost to myself. Failure to do so will result in a chargeback from my credit card company. I am nervous about getting a replacement microwave in case the same one goes faulty. regards, Tigoni
  8. Thank you so much for your help, I've just rung my creditcard company and they also can't find any legal name, only the name of the company. The person I spoke to said that if the company doesn't offer me a full refund, they will put the transaction as a dispute with that company. Thanks, Tigoni
  9. Has anyone bought anything from a company called Bargain Stock? [EDIT] I've recently purchased a microwave from them and after just over 2 weeks it is faulty and in order to return it I have to pay £7, which they make out is really cheap, and because it is over two weeks since I ordered it they say I cannot have a refund but will issue me with a credit note or replacement, even though it is their fault. So does anybody know my rights in this situation? I am worried that I will be forever returning their goods and paying £7 for the privilege.
  10. Yippee! Thanks to you all I've got my bank charges back - I was lost as what to do next until I joined your website and through your help filled in all the right forms to send to the court - it took 4 hours, but what a result. So thank you thank you thank you!
  11. When I put in my claim for bank charges on MCOL, I didn't know that I had to list my charges plus interest etc and now I have received Notice of Transfer of Proceedings with the defence that my claim is insufficiently particularised and embarrassing and among other things it does not comply with Rule 16.4 la of the Civil Procedure Rules etc. Also i didn't include my bank account number. I literally just filled in the form online and nothing else. Thanks for any help.
  12. Thanks Peter, I think I have lots of reading to do and lots to learn, but many thanks for your advice.
  13. Hi, I filled in the form on MCOL against Lloyds about a month ago and they've just put in a defence, disputing the amount claimed. I'm not too sure what happens next and I dread having to go to court. Thanks for any help on this.
  14. Hi everyone, I'm claiming bank charges from Lloyds and after using the MCOL,they put in a defence, disputing the amount I am claiming. I'm not sure what I do next and i was a bit in the dark filling in the form for my claim with vague help from Martin Lewis website moneysavingexpert.com. Any help would be much appreciated.
