  1. Ok, after a lot of research have been in touch with a very nice lady at Financial Ombudsman Service, wasnt going to go down that road but after reading a lot about how people have used them and have seen good results i thought why not, ive nothing to lose! it also means i wont have to pay court costs which is a big deal for me as i dont quite meet the criteria for fee exemption at court (blast those extra 2 hrs a week grrr) Anyway, if it doesnt work out with the FOS i can still go to court, but it cant be done vice versa .will keep you updated. I have noticed a lot of people are very anti the FOS, i just find it the cheapest and least scary way to go about this. I spoke to them yesterday, got a letter this morning to check and sign and also had to send copies of any letters i had from abbey. not bad service when you compare it to the months waiting for abbey to do anything!!
  2. Thanks for that gatecrasher, just wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing, unlike abbey!! Youre right, the gogw has to be a fob off, if the charges are legal etc then why do they offer one?! will carry on as usual then thanks
  3. Hello again, well, recieved a letter on saturday saying they were sorry blah the charges were legal blah and there is nothing i can do about it blah blah but they were giving me a £250 goodwill gesture (£210 was paid into my account) I want to send them a letter saying thanks for the part payment but if i dont recieve the rest within 7 days i will go ahead and file with my county court, does this sound ok and can i do this? would appreciate any help. Thanks, Lisa
  4. Hi everyone, well, have done everything that faq's says i should do. Sent all letters giving abbey the appropriate time to respond etc sent letter before action and shortly after recieved a letter saying they are sorry i feel i should complain (grrr) and that they would need 4 weeks to look into the matter. the 14 days was up yesterday and i have just recieved ANOTHER letter saying it would take yet another 4 weeks! and they thanked me for my patience.would appreciate any advice, do I wait the 4 weeks or just go ahead with starting court action?

  6. Hi everyone, have just joined this forum though have read lots about what goes on here and have already had lots of advice albeit non-direct. Am in process of trying to claim £1300 back from Abbey. Have all my statements etc and sent off letter asking for money plus interest, recieved a letter a few days ago saying they were 'sorry i felt i had to complain, it will take us 4 weeks to look into this problem'....is this usual?? Also, i got a bank statement yesterday saying i owed £140 in charges for going £3 overdrawn this month grrrrr they were going to take the money out of my bank on 13th june so i phoned them up, saying there wouldnt be any money in my account until the 16th (payday) the 'lady' i spoke to virtually said 'tough!! you should have cancelled all your direct debits if you couldnt pay them!!' needless to say i was livid, lost my temper and started ranting about how what they were doing was illegal etc etc anyway, she put me on hold for a while then came back and said the charges had been cancelled as a goodwill gesture!! I was gobsmacked!! How can they get away with these charges knowing they are illegal?!! Phew, feeling less stress know ive said this 'out loud' Also, any advice on opening new accounts just in case they close mine? have had major problems as my ex-husband is a bankrupt and I'm still being penalised for it even thought we've been divorced 5 years.
