  1. Im not sure if it still stands today bit Canada stopped MCSE holders from calling themselves engineers in about 2002 ish. I believe the basis of the law will be certification along with chartered or incorporated. In some EU countries now it is illegal to call yourself an engineer unless you hold an engineering degree and have also passed an examination. I have also been told this will apply to technician but to a lesser level. I am not fully up to speed with the details but could find out more if you wanted. Also im sorry for the thread hijack.
  2. "Technicians are not engineers. An engineer would be overqualified to work in frontline ISP support. (The British public really needs to stop abusing the term.)" Legislation is coming into effect to prevent this very thing. I beleive from 2010 (date may be wrong) it will be illegal to use the term engineer to anyperson who is is not registered.
  3. I take it its actually 2PM and not AM.
  4. I was talking on new discs about the run out check. If its not done then as far as im concerned it isnt done right. The reasons for the check when fitting new discs are there for a reason (hub fitting, warpage and manufacturers tolerances) I have never liked the attitude of well fit and hope its okay and if it isnt then you can go out of your way and bring it back. In the meantime just dont put lots of miles on them and get disc variation thickness.
  5. All you would need extra from sky to go wireless would be a wireless dongle £25 that plugs into the usb port. If you are considering sky dont get another make first as some are not compatible with the sky router. (or other routers come to that). To clarify as well (as long as you are not tied into contract period) Its a MAC code (migration authority code). This is a code that you pass onto your new intended internet provider. (provided by your old/current provider). This should then allow a seamless (in theory) transition from one provider to another. The other way to do it is cancell completely. Then start again with another provider once the line is clear. This will leave a gap in service from the old company removing equipment to the new company providing. Do some research before changing company though. I think sky are good - other disagree I never had a problem with aol - others call them aoHELL Tiscalli heard both good and bad. Its crazy but their isnt one outstanding guaranteed no problems company out there.
  6. Ok then ill leave it. i was just trying to get you connected.
  7. dw190 can you go into router settings page do a sky test and let me know the error code. I bet its 100. Can you also make sure you are not double filtered. Have you been escalated to tier 2 or 3. Do you know the distance from the exchange?. Sam knows will let you find this out The Broadband Resource Just to add to the virgin box - was the sign off chit actually signed to say that the homeowner was happy with the install and it was carried out to their requirments.
  8. BU as i posted Keep the equipment under your control Insure any of our equipment against any loss, theft or damage for the full replacement value Thats directly from virgins terms and conditions. You would need to prove that the sky engineer did it without your consent surely. After all its under your control.
  9. Where we hire equipment to you it will be our property at all times and we may need to alter or replace it from time to time. For us to do this, we will need reasonable access to your home. You are responsible for making sure that our equipment is safe and used properly at all times. To do this, you agree to do the following: Follow the manufacturer's instructions and any other instructions we have given you; Keep the equipment under your control (for example, you may not sell it, lend it or hire it out to anyone else, put it up as security for a loan or mortgage, or allow it to be seized under any legal process against you). You must not move our equipment from your home without our permission; Insure any of our equipment against any loss, theft or damage for the full replacement value; Not remove, tamper with or cross out any words or labels on our equipment; Take proper care at all times to prevent the loss or theft of our equipment. You agree to tell us immediately about any loss or damage to any part of our equipment. You should do this by phoning, emailing or writing to our Customer Care team. You agree that you are responsible for any loss of or damage to the equipment, regardless of how it happens. We will charge you for any loss of or damage to the equipment. Yes your right on that point but that then moves onto other issues as the terms and conditions clearly state for virgin that you agree to keep the equipment under your control. Also that you are responsible for loss or damage regardless of how it happened. That could be tricky to prove that the sky engineer did it without your knowledge or consent. Im just playing devils advocate here and also trying to help with the email issue and non connection.
  10. As for using the Virgin box - its not their cable or equipment if you cancelled - its yours.
  11. Carefull here. I would read closely your terms and conditions. No email but broadband is not a reason for cancelling. If you still have email issues then you need to ring tech support. The new dedicated password team for email is uk based. Have you filled out your profile on sky.com and submitted it. Have you used the password help link on sky.com and was a security question there?. If not again let tech support know. Second query, is a green dsl light on the router. Are you in the master socket?. Are you using any extension cables. You should not be testing with a modem but a router, only use the netgear router. The line test can be done straight away (while you are on the phone to tech support) and have you performed a sky test on the router settings page and what error code was received?. Finally if you get through to a different call centre that may have a language barrier - raise this issue and ask to be transferred to the U.K.
  12. skimming can be done to remove grooves from the disc, as long as the disc is still within limits. Interesting point is how many people sit at lights with their foot hard on the break pedal after a period of heavy driving, this can cause parts of the pad to cook onto the disc, as the disc is not moving and clearing this residue. Also how many garages actually fit these things properly and perform a disc run out check. I dont think i have ever seen one. Could the rust have formed on an area where the pad wasnt effectively breaking on the disc. Skimming would again solve this with new pads.
  13. wow thats not as daunting as i thought i was expecting the opposition to claim solicitors fees - name the price Travelling costs - usually fixed rate etc etc Feel a lot better now cheers to you both
  14. Account is clear and closed. I say its closed as i asked them to do it and dont get statements anymore but if i phone my account number brings up the account and shows about 6p in credit. It has been this way for about 6 months. They do confirm its closed though.
