  1. I apologise, there were lots of points. ~I didn't realise it was wrong to do.
  2. 1st December 2020. Thanks for the reply. I got overwhelmingly negative replies on another site so gave up. Also was very ill in Feb - March this year so been able to do little. Questions answered in text above.
  3. Hi, not sure whether this belongs here or in Insurance. My mother and I planned a trip 18th - 25th March last year to Toronto, Niagara Falls and New York. I booked individual elements end of January last year. The Saturday prior to travel, the USA added the UK to its travel restrictions, In the hours after that Amtrak cancelled the train between Niagara Falls and New York and American Airlines cancelled the main leg of the return flight, JFK - LHR. I booked the flights through a company called BudgetAir that immediately shut its phones down. A message said to email them. Which I did, 5 times. I also tried calling the individual airlines. No joy. At this point Canada was also saying 14 day quarantine would be imposed. Our journey was to have started at 4am in Inverness. My mother was 72 and over 70s were advised to stay at home. I certainly couldn't drag her to Inverness, never mind London or Toronto with no guarantee we'd get home or even into Canada in the middle of a pandemic. So I cancelled the hotels. The Toronto and Niagara Falls hotels gave full refunds, the New York hotel booked through Voyages Privé issued a partial refund. A fraction. So I claimed on my travel insurance. Mum and I had separate policies, both administered through the same claims handling companies so I sent the claims together. They told me to try through my credit card. I did, they asked me to supply loads of paperwork and asked me to try again via Voyages Privé and BudgetAir. So I tried. Silence from Budget Air and a refusal from Voyages Privé. The credit card also refused as, they said, no fraud was involved. So, as instructed, I went back to the insurance claims handlers who told e today (after I chased them) that my claim was declined as they didn't cover refusal to allow entry. Why they could not have told me that months ago, I don't know. End result, my mother and I are down over £1000. Surely there must be something I can do?
  4. I have a shared ownership handbook. It says I should contact them and they'll send me a form (they didn't) and then..." once we have received this letter back from you, we will then be able to nominate the applicant from our waiting list in the greatest housing need who will buy your property..." It goes on to say that I'll have to sell my share to them and they will sell it on but I don't recall it being done like that 10 years ago although they were involved.
  5. If he isn't a licenced landlord your council need to know this too. As others have said, keep a diary of everything that happens. And get the police involved. You say you don't want to make the situation worse but you're scared to leave your home. That's already bad.
  6. I already signed the sales contract and the other party will sign once everything's done their end. It's not that I can't sell. More that it took a long while. I moved last December and gave notice with the HA. They told me that I'd to sell it on the open market. I put it into an estate agent, paid for the home report and after a while a buyer viewed. Put in an offer. It should have been settled in May. The HA were happy as he was looking to but a further share. Then he was made redundant. For months no one looked and I began to get panicky. In July my exemption on council tax expired and I was looking at a bill of approximately £350 a month, I have a £500 mortgage and it was getting to the point of paying the charges on my credit card. I even emailed my housing officer and told her that I couldn't afford this. Eventually I had two viewings days apart and both contacted the estate agent with a view to putting in offers but both had problems with the HA. Especially the second. He was told he could not even apply to be considered a suitable tenant until the first viewer had considered whether or not to put in an offer. He told me he wanted to make an offer but was hesitant to get involved with the HA. I had suspicions (never proved) that they were putting people off until the guy who lost his job could make another offer as he was their preferred buyer. I could be wrong but there was a long time without a viewing. Then after that viewer's experience the estate agent lost it with them. I don't have the correspondence as it's at work. Eventually I got an offer and it's going through but I'm skint, in a house that needs work doing and I've not had the funds to do it and this flat was supposed to be social housing. So I haven't kept up the payments and yesterday I got an arrears letter.
  7. Hello For 10 years I had a quarter share in a HA flat. I always paid my occupancy charge (rent on the three quarters owned by the HA) on time. When I moved in the HA actively had a list of people suited. I got the impression that several people looked at the flat and it was sold quickly however by the time I gave up the tenancy in December last year I was told (this is not in my terms and conditions) that I must sell my share on the open market. Hopefully the contract will be complete any day now but in addition to the mortgage on my house I was told I must continue to pay the occupancy charge. I did so at first understanding that it would take a while to sell but 8 months on it's making me penniless. Is there anything that I can do? I also feel that the HA have made it harder to sell. They've discouraged enquirers (to the point the estate agent had to contact them and ask them to desist). Please help. We're talking thousands of pounds.
  8. I'm sure others will be on here soon to advise that it's just a speculative invoice and she shouldn't pay. That's the usual advice and seems to be the best. Good luck to her and I hope her health improves.
  9. Do you have a copy of the original advert? That should show the type of accommodation. Keep a screenshot or print as they may amend it. I've had trouble with them before as a hotel I booked with them in the Netherlands a few years had no record of my booking. Luckily the hotel still had rooms but after their "so what?" response I will never use them again.
  10. Sorry, not been back here. Probably not eligible to defer. Mentioned that Erudio said I should pay them rather than SLC . I have a standing order to pay SLC a token amount of £1 a month which has been paid every month for the last few years. I just hate the idea of sending money to a company who write and tell me I owe them not the original loan company. It may not be a [problem] but I feel that for my security that letter needs to come from SLC not a complete stranger.
  11. It was taken out in 1992 and I've been paying £1 per month for some years. I never actually deferred. Just forgot about it until they traced me about 1996/7 and set up a payment by standing order.
  12. ....and why should I pay them anything? I got a letter from Erudio today. Never heard of them before. They say I should be paying them not the Student Loans Company. Who are they? SLC have never written to me, they could be anyone. I'm not in the habit of sending money to any old company that asks. I have read a little here and there is a company called that but still it could be a [problem]. Anyone can send out a letter.
  13. At first when the review was on I felt that they wanted rid of me as I stand up for a service and I was determined to not go as someone must provide that service (it's a statutory service). I also respect my colleagues and don't want to leave them even shorter than they are. If I left now I would lose the redundancy, possibility in the next few years of an early retirement and a job that I love. I can't do this anywhere else. I'd have to start at the beginning in a new skill and I'm not far from 50 (just not close enough to retire). I also love the work that I do for a professional association. You have to be actively employed in the job to do that.
  14. Because I need a job. I had to restart after a similar scenario some years ago. I moved 500 miles to a small town with not much employment but family nearby. I was attracted to this by a qualification and a very interesting job description. It turned out to be something that I really enjoyed doing. At the moment I'm on lunch break. I'm close to tears. We're short staffed and if I get out my colleagues will be in a mess. I'm feeling paralysed and terrified.
  15. Back again. I'm using the old subject as it's linked. The review is over I didn't get that job (I'm relieved to be honest it was not related to the side of the job that I love just management of offices). A colleague took her package and although she was a pay grade lower I was matched into her job. She was told she could have the package if it made way for someone facing redundancy. When I had to make the decision they wanted the decision that same day. I switched off my PC at the end of the day, went home in a daze and had a panic attack. I needed a job and I take pride in what I do. It's a specialist job and I'm a senior member of our small professional association. Leaving the job would break my heart but staying in it is causing major stress. I was signed off for a week with stress. So 3 months later I'm there only now I'm doing the jobs of two people. I manage a team as well as doing my old job (someone has to do it). Every time I go to the department I'm used to working in (it's still part of my job) I have to justify myself. Work isn't getting done, when it is it's of poor quality and added to that my manager is piling extra work on me that my predecessor did not do in the general department as well as still leading my old department. I have an additional colleague to train so she needs close supervision (good as she will be I can't leave her to get on with it). Now another colleague has been offered a redundancy/retirement package. Last Tuesday we had no one on holiday. No one off sick and it was horrendous. Our busy season (in my speciality) is summer and that's when people will be on holiday. I end every day feeling sick. I have a chronic condition which is leaving me with poor quality sleep, chronic pain and stomach problems and I can't go one like this. Everyone's stressed but I feel like I'm the one that always says it. Added to that I'm using my holiday for association business and flexi when I'm too exhausted to complete a day. I mentioned a new (vague) sick leave policy for my manager (I wanted detail) and mentioned stress and she told me "That doesn't affect you!" It really does and this is my quiet time. No one has ever mentioned the week I was signed off with stress. My doctor was keen to write stress on my sick note. "Then they have to deal with the problem". So far all I've heard is fingers stuck in ears and loud humming. Any time I mention an issue to a manager (I've mentioned a few) they tell me it doesn't exist. I can't go on like this and I have years before I can try for early retirement. If they even offer it then.
  16. No, not Visa, Mastercard Debit and if it invites the person who currently has the card to designate a password asking only some of the details on the previous transaction and the sort code (which is on the card) it cannot be secure. I don't have a Visa card. My bank doesn't issue them as far as I'm aware.
  17. I hope this is the right topic. I just used my bank card online. I'm terrible at remembering passwords and my account has recently changed to 3 boxes where you choose random letters/numbers rather than the whole password. I thought I'd got it right but I hadn't so it asked me to choose a new one. So lets get this straight, a thief finds my card. Decides to use it but doesn't know the secure code so is invited to reset it???? Really??? The only thing it asked as a security question that hadn't been included when I put my card details in for the purchase was the sort code. Which is printed on the card! So what kind of security is this? It's not new, this has happened before (like I said, I'm lousy with passwords) and I thought then that it was just wrong!
  18. I've had two RM parcels recently delivered when I'm out. One late November, one yesterday. Both were delivered to a neighbour which is fine. (I've taken in packages for them and we keep an eye out for each other coming home so we can take the parcels round) however neither time have I received a card from the postie so I've been surprised that the parcel is handed to me. Obviously both of these have turned out okay and I've got my parcels but that's no thanks to RM. I've just been on the phone to my mother as my great aunt told me that she'd sent a parcel and I was away and hadn't got it. Luckily my parcel is with a pack that arrived at my parents so all is well but I panicked for a while. Surely RM are supposed to let the person the parcel is addressed to know where it has gone. (It isn't all bad. When the above parcel arrived at my parents, they got a card telling them where it was and then a visit the next day from the postie checking that they'd got it. She gave the impression she'd been panicking about it. The difference between town and village perhaps. Maybe I just need to move.)
  19. Only name and email address. I got my credit record over the weekend and nothing suspicious. I looked on a website mentioned on Rip Off Britain about hacking and it seems that my email address is being bought/sold although the website doesn't say a lot. Just gives my name and a very old address (12 years since I lived there). Hotmail aren't taking this seriously but up until now the company names associated haven't been familiar.
  20. ..and it's not just appearing as my address. I've tried to block it but a message tells me I can't block my own address.
  21. It seems that Brighthouse or a company sending spam emails claiming to be them are using my email address. I've reported my own email to Hotmail for phishing and "my friend's been hacked and nothing's being done. I've changed my password and sign in each time but today I got one claiming to be from Brighthouse. Obviously having reported it, Hotmail have deleted the original but I took a screenshot first. Do BH know that companies are using their name in this way and has anyone else seen one? I'll happily forward my screenshot to any admins but at the moment it has my full name and email address on it so I'm wary. I'm lost on this one.
