Hi all, I'm starting this process and I have a question. I've read through as much of the rest of the site as I can but haven't seen anything similar. Apologies in advance for the long explanation... I've been through all my bank statements (I still had them all) and have totted up the amount I'm able to claim, and it's a fair amount - three figures but definitely worth claiming. The thing is, I'm currently overdrawn (legacy of my student days/daze) by quite a large amount, and even though I'm gradually paying it back (off my own bat, no set agreement with the bank), if I am successful in claiming the charges back from Barclays, the amount of the claim will only pay off around 1/3 to 1/4 of the overdraft. I am aware from reading elsewhere on the site that they sometimes close peoples' accounts, so I am guessing that them cancelling my overdraft would be a possiblility. In fact I have heard that a friend of a friend who claimed charges back from Barclays and was successful, had his overdraft cancelled by the bank shortly after - although I don't know the details of his situation. So my question is this: if I go through with the claim, are Barclays likely to cancel my overdraft, therefore leaving me in the brown stuff financially as I would still owe them a significant amount of money. The way I see it they could either: 1) cancel the overdraft, and tell me I have to pay it back to them as a lump sum - which would obviously be very difficult due to the amount, as they would surely know. Which means I'm worried that they might: 2) cancel the overdraft, convert it into a loan, making me pay it back over time and therefore making me pay loads of interest on it (more than the current overdraft interest anyway), and meaning that claiming back the charges would've been pointless as I'd just end up paying it back in interest. Or I suppose they may just leave me with my big overdraft as I'm paying interest on it anyway. So, what risk (including anything else I haven't even thought of) would I be taking in going ahead with claiming my charges back, and is it worth it? I really want to get this money back, but I'm worried that because of the overdraft situation it may cause more problems than it's worth. Any thoughts/experiences/advice would be very gratefully received!
